Double Glazing in Epsom: Aluminium & UPVC Windows and Doors

Epsom is a little under twenty miles east of our Fifield workshop in a straight line, reached along the M4 and M25 or across through Kingston. We cover it, along with Ewell and the surrounding suburbs, with our own survey and installation team. We fabricate aluminium windows and doors in Fifield, near Windsor, and bring them to you; we have no Epsom office or branch.

Spa town, racecourse and railway suburb

Epsom’s history shows in its buildings. In the seventeenth century a spring on Epsom Common made the town a fashionable spa, and London merchants built baroque mansions from the 1670s. Racing on the Downs brought the Oaks in 1779 and the Derby in 1780. The railway arrived in 1847, and from 1869 houses spread over the old common fields, with terraced streets on the former Epsom Court estate from the late 1890s.

The twentieth century added more. Stoneleigh, in the north of the borough, was built almost entirely between 1933 and 1939 after its station opened, and is mostly semi-detached houses. The former hospital sites around Horton were redeveloped in the early 2000s into around 1,850 new homes. Woodcote, to the south, has many large detached houses.

Conservation areas and planning in Epsom and Ewell

Planning is currently handled by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council. Its conservation areas include Epsom Town Centre, Church Street, Stamford Green and Ewell Village, which alone contains 79 listed buildings, along with smaller areas such as Higher Green, Pikes Hill, Providence Place and Ewell Downs Road. If your home is in one of them, or is listed, check with Epsom and Ewell Borough Council before changing the style, material or colour of windows and doors.

Surrey’s borough councils are being replaced by two new unitary councils. From 1 April 2027 Epsom and Ewell becomes part of the new East Surrey council, so check which authority is handling planning when you apply. We can provide the drawings and product information that planners usually request.

Nearby areas we cover

We also cover Epsom Downs, Woodcote, Cuddington, Worcester Park and the Horton developments. Further south, see our Dorking and Reigate page.

Which products suit Epsom homes

1930s semis in Stoneleigh and Ewell. Bay windows are the defining feature. Getting the bay right, with the correct frame proportions and a sensible top-light pattern, matters more than anything else. Slim aluminium casements such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68 suit owners who want a crisp, modern line; UPVC (Advance 70) suits those working to a tighter budget.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Fine frames help these narrow houses. SL68, Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows can all take glazing bars where the original pattern had them.

Large detached homes in Woodcote and Epsom Downs. Many have been extended. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors and bifold doors from Smart Visofold or Cortizo are the usual choices for a garden-facing wall of glass.

Front doors. A composite door is often the simplest upgrade for any of these house types.

How we survey and fit in Epsom

A member of our team drives over from Fifield to measure, check the condition of each opening and discuss what you want from the new frames. On a 1930s bay we also check the bay structure itself before quoting. Your written quote lists the system, glass and finish, from £400.

Aluminium frames are then made in our Fifield workshop, with a lead time starting from 10 days. Our own installers travel over on the agreed dates, remove the old frames, fit and seal the new ones and leave the site tidy. Every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Epsom, Ewell and Stoneleigh?

Yes. Epsom is a little under twenty miles from our Fifield workshop in a straight line, and we regularly cover Ewell, Stoneleigh, Ashtead, Banstead and Worcester Park too. Our own team travels from Fifield for surveys and installations. We do not have a local office, but we plan visits so that each job runs smoothly.

Can you replace bay windows on a 1930s house?

Yes, bay windows are a regular job for us, especially on the inter-war semis common in Stoneleigh and Ewell. We check the bay structure at survey, because old bays sometimes need support, and design frames that keep the original proportions. You can choose slim aluminium or UPVC depending on the look and budget you want.

Who handles planning for windows in Ashtead and Banstead?

Ashtead is in Mole Valley, so Mole Valley District Council handles planning. Banstead is in Reigate and Banstead borough. Epsom and Ewell has its own borough council. From 1 April 2027 all three areas move to the new East Surrey council. Check with the responsible authority before changing windows on a listed building or in a conservation area.

Is aluminium worth the extra cost over UPVC?

It depends on your home and priorities. Aluminium allows slimmer frames, larger panes and a wide colour range, which suits period terraces and big extensions. UPVC usually costs less and works well on many inter-war and modern homes. We will quote both where it makes sense, so you can compare appearance and price side by side.

Do you fit composite front doors in Epsom?

Yes. Composite doors are one of the products we supply and fit alongside aluminium and UPVC windows and doors. They are a popular choice for Epsom’s terraces and inter-war semis, where the front door is a key part of the house’s character. We can measure for a new door during the same free survey as your windows.
