We are best known for aluminium, so it may seem odd for us to write a page about UPVC. The reason is simple: for some Surrey homes, UPVC is the right answer, and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need. We supply and fit UPVC windows and doors using the Advance 70 system, surveyed and installed by the same team that fits our aluminium work.

When UPVC makes sense
UPVC is usually the budget-led choice. It tends to cost less than aluminium for a like-for-like opening, which matters when you are replacing every window in a house at once. In our experience it suits:
- Rental properties. Landlords in Woking, Guildford, Redhill and Epsom often want reliable, low-maintenance windows at a sensible price, with less concern about the slimmest possible frame.
- Rear and side elevations. Some homeowners choose aluminium for the front and the garden doors, then UPVC for less visible windows to keep the overall cost down.
- Post-war and modern houses. Estates around Camberley, Farnborough and Redhill, with standard opening sizes and cavity walls, are well suited to UPVC.
- Bathrooms, utility rooms and outbuildings. Small, practical openings where appearance is less critical.
When we would steer you elsewhere
UPVC frames are generally bulkier than slim aluminium, and that difference shows on fine period elevations. If you have a Victorian villa, an Arts and Crafts house or a large opening where you want maximum glass, we will probably suggest looking at aluminium windows in Surrey instead, such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68.
Planning matters too. Surrey has a great many conservation areas, and parts of the county lie within the Surrey Hills National Landscape. Some councils are explicit about UPVC: Guildford Borough Council’s character appraisal for Onslow Village, for example, describes UPVC as inappropriate there. If your home is in a conservation area, check with your borough council, or the new West Surrey or East Surrey council from 1 April 2027, before you choose any replacement material.
Sash-style UPVC options
Many Surrey terraces and villas were built with sliding sash windows. Where a council allows it and budget is the main concern, sash-style UPVC can be an option. We will show you what is available in the Advance 70 range at survey, explain how it compares visually with traditional timber, and let you decide. If authentic sashes are expected for your street, we will say so.
Performance and specification
We do not publish thermal figures for our UPVC range on this page. Performance depends on the exact Advance 70 profile, glass unit and configuration chosen, and we prefer to give you accurate figures in writing for your specific windows rather than a headline number. Ask at survey and we will include the details in your quotation.
UPVC doors and composite front doors
We also fit UPVC doors, which can be a cost-effective choice for back and side entrances. For front doors, many customers choose one of our composite doors. For garden openings, our Reynaers aluminium sliding doors and aluminium bifold doors are worth comparing.
Mixing UPVC and aluminium in one project
A mixed specification is common and sensible. A typical approach might be slim aluminium on the main street elevation, aluminium sliding or bifold doors to the garden, and UPVC on the side and rear windows. We can match or complement colours across both materials so the house still looks considered. Because we handle both, you get one survey, one quotation and one installation team.
Questions worth asking any UPVC installer
UPVC quotes can look very similar on paper, so it pays to dig a little. Whoever you speak to, including us, we suggest asking:
- Which profile system and which glass unit are being quoted, by name?
- Will the installation be carried out by the company’s own fitters or by subcontractors?
- How will the old frames be removed, and what happens if a lintel or cill turns out to be damaged?
- Who will handle any adjustment needed after fitting, and how quickly?
- Exactly what do the guarantee terms cover, and for how long?
Our own answers are straightforward. We quote the Advance 70 system by name, our team carries out the work, we inspect openings at survey and flag any likely structural repairs up front, and you deal with us directly afterwards.
Looking after UPVC windows
UPVC needs little maintenance. An occasional wipe of the frames with warm soapy water, keeping drainage slots clear and a drop of light oil on the moving hardware once a year will keep most windows working smoothly. We will show you the basics when we hand over.

Frequently asked questions
Is UPVC cheaper than aluminium?
For a like-for-like opening, UPVC usually costs less than aluminium, which is why it suits whole-house replacements on a tighter budget, rentals and less visible elevations. Our UPVC windows start from £400. The exact difference depends on sizes and specification, so we set both options side by side in your written quotation.
Can I fit UPVC windows in a Surrey conservation area?
It depends on the area, and only the council can decide. Some Surrey conservation areas have Article 4 Directions, and Guildford’s Onslow Village appraisal describes UPVC as inappropriate. Check with your borough council, or the West or East Surrey council from April 2027, before ordering. We will flag any concerns we spot at survey.
Do you offer sash-style UPVC windows?
Yes, sash-style options are available in the Advance 70 range. They can work on terraces and villas where the council allows UPVC and budget is the priority. We will show you samples at survey and explain honestly how they compare with traditional timber sashes, so you can decide whether they suit your home.
Why would an aluminium specialist recommend UPVC?
Because it is sometimes the right choice. Rentals, rear elevations, bathrooms and many post-war houses do not need the slimmest frame, and UPVC can save money there. We fit both, so we have no reason to push one. Many customers combine aluminium on the front and garden side with UPVC elsewhere.
What UPVC system do you use?
We install the Advance 70 system. Thermal and security performance depend on the exact profile, glass and configuration, so rather than quote headline figures we provide the specification for your windows in writing with your quotation. Ask at your free survey and we will go through the options in detail.
