Windows and Doors in Oxfordshire

Inspired Glazing is a window and door company based at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor, and we cover Oxfordshire from that Berkshire base. We make and install aluminium and uPVC windows and doors, composite doors, roof lanterns, conservatories and secondary glazing, using our own workshop and our own fitting team. Every installation carries a 10-year guarantee.

Aluminium and uPVC windows fitted in Oxfordshire

We are honest about distance: we are not an Oxfordshire firm, and our vans travel out from Fifield. Henley-on-Thames is a short hop up the river from us, while Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot are roughly an hour away and the north of the county around Banbury takes a little longer. We plan surveys and fitting days around that, so you get the same team from first visit to final handover.

Homes across Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire mixes historic stone towns with some of the fastest-growing new communities in the south of England, and the right window for one street can be wrong for the next.

Planning, councils and protected areas

Oxfordshire County Council sits above five district-level councils: Oxford City Council, Cherwell District Council, West Oxfordshire District Council, South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District Council. Planning matters for windows and doors are dealt with at district level.

Many town centres and villages are conservation areas, including central Oxford, Henley-on-Thames, Woodstock and Burford, and the county has a large number of listed buildings. If your home is in one, or is listed, check with your district council before changing windows or doors. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains when consent is likely to be needed.

Around a quarter of Oxfordshire lies within National Landscapes: the Cotswolds to the west, the Chilterns to the south-east and the North Wessex Downs along the southern edge. Design expectations here tend to be higher, so sightlines and colour matter.

Which products suit which parts of the county

Period and stone properties

For Victorian terraces in Oxford and Georgian fronts in Henley, our uPVC sash windows from the Selecta Advance 70 range give a traditional look with modern insulation, and woodgrain foils soften the finish. Where a slim modern frame is wanted on a stone cottage extension, the Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium window keeps sightlines narrow. Crittall-style steel-look aluminium windows also sit well against Cotswold stone.

Family homes and new estates

Homes in Didcot, Bicester, Wantage and Witney often want better garden access. We fit aluminium bifold doors from Smart Visofold and Cortizo, and large-pane Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors where a wider uninterrupted view suits better. For everyday replacements, our uPVC windows and doors cover flush casement and tilt and turn styles.

Extensions and front entrances

A roof lantern brings daylight into a deep kitchen extension, and we also build conservatories and orangeries. At the front, our composite doors add security and insulation, while Crittall-style internal screens and doors divide open-plan rooms without losing light. Secondary glazing is an option where the original windows of a listed home must stay.

Carterton and the Brize Norton area

Carterton sits next to RAF Brize Norton. If aircraft noise is a concern, ask us about glazing specifications that help reduce noise when we survey.

Getting the details right

Oxfordshire homes vary so much that we rarely quote from a standard list. On a survey we look at how each opening is built, whether the walls are stone, brick or render, and how the new frames will meet the existing reveals. In older stone properties that often means careful making good around the frame so the finish looks original rather than retrofitted.

We also talk through glass. Options such as obscure glass for bathrooms, toughened safety glass in doors and low-level panes, and higher-performance units for exposed elevations can all be specified. For homes beside busy routes such as the A34 or the M40, acoustic glass is worth considering. Colour matters too: many owners in the Cotswold villages choose muted greys, creams or woodgrain effects that sit quietly against stone.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover all of Oxfordshire?

Yes. We travel across Oxfordshire from our workshop in Fifield, near Windsor, including Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Witney, Bicester, Banbury, Henley-on-Thames and the villages in between. We are not based in the county, so we plan survey and fitting days carefully to make the journey work, and the same in-house team handles your job throughout.

How far is Oxfordshire from your base in Fifield?

Henley-on-Thames is close to us, typically well under an hour by road. Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot are roughly an hour away depending on traffic on the M4, M40 and A34, and Banbury in the north takes longer. If travel is a concern, a free video-call quote is a good first step before anyone visits.

My house is in a conservation area. Can I still replace my windows?

Often yes, but check first. Central Oxford, Henley-on-Thames, Woodstock and Burford all include conservation areas, and Oxfordshire has many listed buildings. Speak to your district council before ordering. We can suggest designs, such as uPVC sash windows with woodgrain foils or secondary glazing for listed homes, that are more likely to suit the area.

Do you charge for a survey in Oxfordshire?

No. Surveys are free anywhere in Oxfordshire. We measure every opening, check the condition of the reveals and talk through frame styles, glass and colours. Many customers begin with a free video call, which lets us give initial advice and a quote outline before we travel out to measure up properly.

Which windows and doors suit Oxfordshire homes best?

It depends on the property. Victorian and Georgian homes often suit uPVC sash windows, while Cotswold stone properties and modern extensions look good with Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium or Crittall-style windows. Newer homes in Didcot and Bicester often choose bifold or Reynaers sliding doors. We will recommend options after seeing your home.
