Brentwood at a glance
Brentwood grew at a crossroads on the old London to Colchester road, and the town centre still has a number of 15th and 16th-century inns. Shenfield and Hutton were absorbed into the town in 1934, and the coming of the railway and later the motor age turned the area into a popular commuter suburb. Today, the Elizabeth line runs from both Brentwood and Shenfield into London, the A12 passes to the north and the M25 lies about a mile to the south-west.
The homes reflect that history. There are Victorian and Edwardian houses near the station and the centre, large interwar and post-war detached houses in Shenfield and Hutton, mid-century semis in Warley, Brook Street and Pilgrims Hatch, and plenty of modern flats. Around it, the Metropolitan Green Belt keeps fields, woodland and country parks such as Weald and Thorndon close to most streets.
The local planning picture
Brentwood Borough Council deals with planning. It has 13 conservation areas, including Brentwood Town Centre, Hutton Village, Great Warley, South Weald, Ingatestone High Street, Station Lane in Ingatestone, Herongate and Blackmore. If your property is in one of these, or is listed, check with Brentwood Borough Council before changing your window style or material.
Many Brentwood homes are in the Green Belt, which matters more for extensions and conservatories than for replacement windows. Houses outside conservation areas can usually have like-for-like window replacements under permitted development. Flats are not covered by householder permitted development rights, so you may need planning permission and freeholder consent. Our guide to replacement windows and planning explains more.
Products for Brentwood properties
Large detached homes in Shenfield and Hutton
These houses often suit Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium windows, an outward-opening casement, or our Cortizo and Alunet ranges, with a Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding door or a Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold door across the rear. Our patio doors page compares the options.
Semis and terraces in Warley, Brook Street and Pilgrims Hatch
Our UPVC windows and doors, made on the Selecta Advance 70 system, are a cost-effective replacement for older frames, and a composite door gives a secure, low-maintenance entrance.
More living space
A conservatory or orangery, or a roof lantern over a flat-roofed extension, can add light and space. Because so much of the borough is Green Belt, check planning for anything beyond a modest extension.
We do not make timber windows; woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium, or a composite door, are our timber-look options.
Brentwood’s larger homes often have a mixture of window types added over several decades, such as original bays, later dormers and a newer extension. We can survey the whole house at once and match frame colours and sightlines, so the replacements look consistent from the street rather than like a patchwork of different jobs.
Covering Brentwood and its villages
As well as the town, we cover Shenfield, Hutton, Warley, Pilgrims Hatch, Ingatestone and Kelvedon Hatch. Nearby pages: Billericay, Havering and Chelmsford.
How we plan a Brentwood installation
We are honest about distance. Our only premises are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, and Brentwood is roughly 60 miles away by road, typically around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half via the M25, depending on traffic. Surveys and installations are planned in advance around that journey, and we group fitting days so the team can work efficiently.
- Our surveyor visits, measures, brings samples and checks for any planning or access issues.
- You receive a written quote; aluminium windows start from £400. Our cost guide explains the main factors.
- We make aluminium frames in our workshop, with lead times from 10 days.
- Our own fitters install and tidy up, and the work carries a 10-year guarantee.
We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions
Is Hutton Village a conservation area?
Yes. Brentwood Borough Council lists Hutton Village as one of its 13 conservation areas, alongside Brentwood Town Centre, Great Warley and South Weald among others. If your home is in a conservation area or is listed, check with the council before changing window materials or styles, and tell our surveyor at the start.
Do you really cover Brentwood from Berkshire?
Yes. Our only base is in Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 60 miles from Brentwood by road, usually around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half via the M25. Because of the distance, we plan surveys and installation dates in advance and group the days together, so the work runs smoothly.
Which bifold doors do you install in Shenfield homes?
We install Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors, and the Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding door if you prefer larger glass panes. We do not supply Reynaers bifolds. For wide rear openings on larger Shenfield and Hutton houses, our surveyor will help you weigh up bifold against sliding.
Does the Green Belt affect replacing my windows in Brentwood?
The Green Belt mainly affects extensions, outbuildings and new development rather than like-for-like replacement windows. Conservation areas, listed buildings and flats are the more common reasons a window change needs approval. If you are planning a conservatory as well, check with Brentwood Borough Council before going ahead.
How much do aluminium windows cost in Brentwood?
Our aluminium windows start from £400. The total for your home depends on the number of windows, their sizes, opening styles, colours and glass. After a free survey at your home, you receive a clear written quote to consider with no obligation. Our double glazing cost guide explains the main factors in more detail.
