If you want double glazing in Ashford, Surrey, Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors at its Fifield workshop near Windsor and installs them with its own team, alongside UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. This is Ashford in Spelthorne, around the TW15 postcode, not Ashford in Kent. It is roughly 14 miles from us by road, usually 25 to 30 minutes via the M25 or the A30.

What Ashford’s houses look like
Ashford was mostly farmland and common until the railway station brought steady growth in the early 20th century. Most of its homes are detached or semi-detached houses built between the 1880s and 1960, and semis are the single biggest group. Flats come second, with more being added: the former Ashford County Grammar School site on Church Road is being redeveloped for several hundred homes.
That gives the town a broadly suburban feel. In houses of this age the original timber frames have often been replaced already, so a typical job is swapping older UPVC or aluminium for something warmer, quieter and better looking.
Ashford’s neighbourhoods
- Around Church Road and the station: Edwardian and interwar houses near the shops, library and St Matthew’s church.
- Ashford Common: a more residential area with its own shopping parade, bordering the Queen Mary Reservoir.
- Towards Fordbridge and the River Ash: suburban roads running towards Laleham, which lies just beyond the river.
- North of the railway: streets near the old gravel lakes and Shortwood Common.
Heathrow on the doorstep
Heathrow Airport is only about 2.5 miles north of Ashford, and a lot of local people work there. That closeness brings aircraft noise, so acoustic glazing is one of the first things we discuss with Ashford customers, especially for front bedrooms. Laminated acoustic glass with panes of different thicknesses blocks more noise than a standard unit. Good seals and a properly insulated fitting matter just as much.
Planning: check with Spelthorne
Ashford falls under Spelthorne Borough Council. Most of the town is outside Spelthorne’s conservation areas, which are centred on Staines, Laleham, Stanwell, Shepperton, Lower Sunbury and the Halliford areas, so like-for-like window replacement on a house is often straightforward. Listed buildings, flats and homes with any planning restriction are different, so check with Spelthorne Borough Council. From 1 April 2027 the town will come under the new West Surrey Council. Our planning permission page has more detail.
One oddity: a small pocket called The Clumps, around 37 houses with TW15 postcodes, actually sits within the London Borough of Hounslow. If you live there, Hounslow Council is your planning authority, not Spelthorne, so check with them instead.
The right products for Ashford homes
For an interwar or 1950s semi, UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system give good insulation at a fair price, and come in woodgrain or colour finishes as well as white. Owners who want slimmer frames and a more modern look often choose aluminium windows, including Reynaers SlimLine 68, a slim outward-opening casement, and Cortizo or Alunet systems.
If you have, or are planning, a single-storey rear extension, that is a natural place for Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors, perhaps with a roof lantern above. For the front, a composite door offers security and a timber-look finish without the upkeep. We do not make timber windows or doors. We also fit conservatories and orangeries, porches, garage doors, fascias, soffits and guttering.
Price, lead time and guarantee
Aluminium windows start from £400. Because we make our own frames, lead times start from 10 days. Each installation has a 10-year guarantee. Our double glazing cost guide shows what pushes the price up or down.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Ashford in Surrey or Ashford in Kent?
This page is for Ashford in Surrey, the town in Spelthorne with TW15 postcodes near Staines and Heathrow. It is roughly 14 miles from our Fifield workshop by road. We have a separate page for Ashford in Kent, which is much further away and planned differently.
What is the best glass for aircraft noise in Ashford?
Acoustic laminated glass is the most effective option in a double glazed unit. It pairs panes of different thicknesses with a sound-damping interlayer. Fitting matters too: well-sealed frames and properly insulated gaps stop noise slipping around the edges. We usually suggest it for bedrooms facing Heathrow.
Should I choose UPVC or aluminium for my Ashford semi?
UPVC on the Selecta Advance 70 system is the lower-cost choice and insulates well. Aluminium costs more but gives slimmer frames, more glass, a longer-lasting finish and a modern look. Some owners mix them, using UPVC on the front and aluminium sliding or bifold doors at the back.
Do I need planning permission to replace windows in Ashford?
For most houses in Ashford, replacing windows with a similar appearance is permitted development. Flats, listed buildings and properties with restrictive conditions are exceptions, so check with Spelthorne Borough Council, which becomes part of West Surrey Council from April 2027. We can provide product details for any application.
Can you fit bifold doors to my rear extension in Ashford?
Yes. We supply and fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors, and Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors if you prefer fewer frames and wider glass. The surveyor checks the opening, lintel and floor level first. Lead times start from 10 days, and the work carries a 10-year guarantee.
