Double Glazing in Lymington: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Double glazing in Lymington is something we can take on from start to finish: Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fits them, together with UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories, using its own installers. There is no Lymington office. The town is roughly 85 miles from Fifield by road, around an hour and three quarters’ drive down the M3 and M27 and through the edge of the Forest, so we plan each survey and installation in advance around that journey.

Lymington’s streets and houses

Lymington is a port town on the west bank of the Lymington River, and its centre is mostly Georgian and Victorian. The broad High Street climbs from the river, and narrow cobbled streets run down towards the quay. Many of the older frontages are brick or painted render, with sash windows, small panes and front doors opening straight onto the pavement.

Around that core, the town spreads into quieter residential areas. Pennington, to the west, has its own village centre with family housing around it, while Buckland and Lower Buckland lie to the north, the latter running down to the river. Across the town, a number of older houses have been replaced by apartment blocks and retirement developments, so flats are a real part of the local mix. Further out, Milford on Sea and Everton add seaside villas, bungalows and post-war houses.

Planning: district council or National Park?

Lymington itself is planned by New Forest District Council, whose conservation areas include Lymington, Buckland, Kings Saltern and Milford-on-Sea. A short way north, villages such as Boldre lie inside the New Forest National Park, where the New Forest National Park Authority is the planning authority. Before ordering, check with the right authority if your home is listed, inside a conservation area or national park, or a flat. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so replacement windows normally need planning consent and the freeholder’s agreement. Our guide to planning and replacement windows gives the general position.

Salt marsh, river and sea air

Lymington made salt for centuries along the shore towards Hurst Spit, and the old workings are now part of the Lymington and Keyhaven Marshes nature reserve. Homes near the quay, the marinas and the marshes are low-lying and exposed to salty wind off the Solent, so it is sensible to check the Environment Agency flood map before building a conservatory or ground-floor extension. For windows, a close fit, sound seals and clear drainage matter most, and an occasional freshwater rinse keeps frames and handles in good condition.

Matching our range to Lymington homes

Georgian and Victorian town houses. We do not make timber windows or doors, so where original sashes survive we look at what the council will accept and compare slim aluminium with woodgrain-finish UPVC. Our aluminium windows include the Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement with narrow frames, and Cortizo and Alunet systems.

Bungalows and post-war houses. In Pennington, Everton and Milford, UPVC windows made with the Selecta Advance 70 system are a dependable, good-value replacement.

River and garden views. Large glazed Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors suit homes looking over the water or the marshes, while Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors open a kitchen fully to a garden.

Entrances and garden rooms. A composite door resists coastal weather with little upkeep, and we also build conservatories and orangeries, porches and roof lanterns.

How we handle a job this far from Fifield

Your free survey is booked on a day our surveyor is already in the New Forest area. We measure each opening, check access for flats and narrow town-centre streets, and discuss finishes. A written quote follows: aluminium windows start from Β£400, and our cost guide explains what changes the price. Our Fifield workshop makes the aluminium frames, with lead times from 10 days, and fitting is planned as consecutive days so the team travels down with the complete order. Our own fitters remove the old frames, install and seal the new ones and leave everything tidy.

All installations carry a 10-year guarantee. Our credentials include Reynaers at Home installer partner listing and Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lymington in the New Forest National Park for planning?

The town itself is planned by New Forest District Council, which runs the Lymington, Buckland, Kings Saltern and Milford-on-Sea conservation areas. Villages just north, such as Boldre, are inside the National Park, where the New Forest National Park Authority decides applications. Check with the relevant authority for your address before ordering new windows.

How far do your fitters travel to reach Lymington?

Our only workshop and office are at Coningsby Farm, Fifield, near Windsor. Lymington is roughly 85 miles away by road, around an hour and three quarters' drive. Our own team makes the trip, and we plan Lymington surveys and installations in advance, fitting larger jobs over consecutive days so the whole order arrives together.

Can I replace windows in a Lymington retirement apartment?

Usually only with permission. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so new windows normally need planning consent from New Forest District Council. Retirement developments also tend to have a management company or freeholder whose approval you need under the lease. Once that is clear, we can survey and quote.

What do you suggest for a Georgian house near the quay?

We do not make timber windows, so for Georgian houses we compare slim Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium casements with woodgrain-finish UPVC. Much of central Lymington is a conservation area, and listed buildings need consent, so check with New Forest District Council first. We can provide drawings and product details for your enquiry.

Is it worth fitting sliding doors in a home near the marshes?

If you have a view across the river or marshes, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors give large glass panels with slim frames. Because some waterside streets are low-lying, check the Environment Agency flood map and talk to us about thresholds and drainage at the survey before deciding on a design.
