Homeowners looking for double glazing in Southwark can have aluminium windows and doors made in our own Fifield workshop, near Windsor, and fitted by our own installers. We also offer UPVC windows, composite doors, secondary glazing and conservatories. Inspired Glazing has no office in South London. Our team comes from Fifield, which is roughly 30 miles away by road and normally an hour to an hour and a quarter’s drive, longer at peak times, so we fix Southwark dates in advance.

Southwark’s housing, north to south
The borough runs from the Thames at Bankside and Bermondsey down to the wooded edge of Dulwich, and its homes change along the way. Near the river you find warehouse conversions and new apartment blocks around Tooley Street, Shad Thames and Rotherhithe. Walworth is home to the Aylesbury Estate, built between 1963 and 1977 with 2,704 homes and now being redeveloped in phases.
Camberwell has some of the borough’s oldest houses. The council’s appraisal for Camberwell Grove describes 18th and early 19th century town houses on the Grove itself, Grove Park as an early 19th century garden estate later built up with Edwardian houses, and mid-Victorian streets at De Crespigny Park. Peckham, Nunhead and East Dulwich are mostly Victorian and Edwardian terraces, while Dulwich Village and Dulwich Wood are conservation areas in their own right.
Conservation areas, Article 4 and the Dulwich Estate
Southwark Council’s list of conservation areas is long. It includes Bermondsey Street, Borough High Street, Camberwell Grove, Camberwell Green, Dulwich Village, Dulwich Wood, Nunhead Green, Peckham Hill Street, Rye Lane Peckham, St Mary’s Rotherhithe, Sunray Estate, Trinity Church Square and West Square. The council says an Article 4 direction covers several of its conservation areas, which means some alterations need planning permission.
Dulwich has an extra layer. Homes on the Dulwich Estate fall under its Scheme of Management, and the Estate says you may need its consent for replacement windows, and a licence before work starts. It generally approves like-for-like windows in the original material, and is unlikely to approve UPVC to replace timber or steel windows in a block of flats unless the whole block is done. Check with both Southwark Council and the Dulwich Estate before ordering. Flats anywhere in the borough also lack householder permitted development rights. Read our planning guide for more.
Choosing windows and doors in Southwark
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
For Peckham, Nunhead and East Dulwich terraces outside conservation areas, our UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a cost-effective upgrade, with woodgrain finishes for a timber look. Front doors can be replaced with a composite door.
Georgian and protected houses
We do not make timber windows. For Camberwell Grove and other Georgian homes where originals must stay, we fit secondary glazing inside the existing windows.
Conversions, extensions and modern homes
Our aluminium windows include the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement and the Cortizo and Alunet ranges. For garden openings there are Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors and Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors. We also build conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns.
The smaller jobs
Not every project is a full house. We also fit porches, garage doors, fascias, soffits and guttering, and supply blinds and shutters, so a single survey can cover the front door, the rear doors and the rooflines together. If you want a timber look without timber upkeep, ask about woodgrain finishes on UPVC and aluminium.
Where we work in Southwark
Our team covers Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Borough, Walworth, Camberwell, Peckham, Nunhead, East Dulwich and Dulwich. Neighbouring pages: Lambeth, Lewisham and Tower Hamlets.
The process, start to finish
We start with a survey at your home, bringing samples because there is no showroom outside Fifield. We measure, discuss consents, and check parking and access. You then get a written quote; aluminium windows start from £400, and the double glazing cost guide explains what else affects price. Once consents are in place, aluminium frames are made in Fifield with lead times from 10 days. Our own installers fit them, make good and take the old frames away. Every installation has a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the Dulwich Estate's permission for new windows?
Quite possibly. The Dulwich Estate says homes under its Scheme of Management may need its consent for replacement windows, and a licence before work starts. It generally approves like-for-like windows in the original material. Check with the Estate and Southwark Council before ordering, and we can provide specifications for your application.
Can I replace windows in a Camberwell Grove house?
Camberwell Grove is a conservation area with many 18th and early 19th century houses, some of which may be listed. Check with Southwark Council first, as listed building consent or planning permission may apply. We do not make timber windows, so where originals must be kept, our secondary glazing can reduce draughts and noise from inside.
Is UPVC allowed in Peckham?
It depends on the street. Much of Peckham sits outside conservation areas, where like-for-like replacements are often possible without planning permission. Peckham Hill Street and Rye Lane Peckham are conservation areas, and an Article 4 direction covers several Southwark areas. Check your address with Southwark Council before choosing UPVC.
How far do you travel to reach Southwark?
We travel from our workshop at Fifield, near Windsor. Southwark is roughly 30 miles by road, normally an hour to an hour and a quarter, and longer in rush-hour traffic. We do not have a local branch, so we book surveys and installations in advance and confirm parking and access with you beforehand.
Can you fit bifold doors on a Victorian terrace in East Dulwich?
Yes. Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds, or Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, suit rear extensions on Victorian terraces. Whether you need permission depends on the work and the location, and homes on the Dulwich Estate may need its consent. We measure at survey and can supply drawings for any application needed.
