A young town in the old Forest of Bere
Waterlooville did not exist before 1815. Until then the land was part of the Forest of Bere, the royal forest that once stretched from the Sussex border to Winchester, and the town’s name recalls the Battle of Waterloo. Most of what you see today is much newer. Large public and private estates went up in the 1950s and 1960s, Hart Plain is almost entirely post-1950s, and Wecock Farm on the western edge was built by Portsmouth City Council in the 1970s. The town centre was pedestrianised in the early 1980s, and new homes continue to be added, including at Newlands to the west.
Traffic has shaped the town too. The old main road through the centre became a pedestrian precinct in 1982 and 1983, and through traffic moved to the bypass now called Maurepas Way in 1985. Homes along the bypass and the busier distributor roads are the ones where we most often talk about glass that helps with noise as well as heat.
Purbrook, on the southern edge, has a longer history: Purbrook Park was built in 1770 and is now Purbrook Park School, and Portsdown Hill rises just beyond, with Fort Purbrook near its crest. Homes on the slopes towards the hill get more wind than those in the sheltered estates.
The result is a town dominated by post-war semis, terraces and bungalows, many now on their second or third set of windows, alongside a smaller number of older houses, particularly around Purbrook.
Who handles planning
Most of Waterlooville is in Havant Borough, so Havant Borough Council is the planning authority. The borough’s 14 conservation areas are concentrated elsewhere, in places such as Emsworth, Langstone, Warblington and Old Bedhampton, but if your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with the council. Newlands and Denmead fall in the Winchester City Council district, and Lovedean and Horndean are in East Hampshire, so the authority depends on your address. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, and ex-council flats usually need the freeholder’s consent too. Read our planning guide for replacement windows for more.
Choosing windows and doors for a Waterlooville home
Post-war semis and terraces. For most homes here, UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are the practical choice: thermally efficient, secure and good value.
Homes where you want more light. Our aluminium windows start from £400. The Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement is made in our own workshop, and we also make Cortizo and Alunet systems. Aluminium’s slimmer profile helps on bungalows and on houses with wide picture windows.
Doors. A composite front door gives a timber look without the painting; we do not make timber doors. For the garden, choose Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors or Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding patio doors.
More space. Bungalows and semis here often have room for a conservatory, orangery or porch, and we also fit roof lanterns, fascias, soffits and guttering.
Neighbourhoods and villages covered
We fit in central Waterlooville, Cowplain, Hart Plain, Wecock Farm, Purbrook and Widley, and in Newlands, Denmead, Lovedean and Horndean. Close by we also have pages for Havant, Portsmouth and Petersfield.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a local branch in Waterlooville?
No. Our only base is the workshop and office at Coningsby Farm, Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 60 miles by road from Waterlooville, or about an hour and a quarter's drive. Our own team travels for every survey and installation. Because of the distance, we plan Waterlooville appointments in advance and confirm times with you beforehand.
Which council deals with planning in Waterlooville?
For most addresses it is Havant Borough Council. Newlands and Denmead are in the Winchester City Council district, and Lovedean and Horndean are in East Hampshire. Most like-for-like window replacements on houses need no application, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats can. Check with the right council for your address before ordering.
What are the best replacement windows for a 1960s Waterlooville semi?
For most 1960s semis, UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system give the best balance of cost and performance. If you want slimmer frames and more glass, our Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium windows start from £400 each. Both come with our 10-year guarantee, and we will show you samples of each at the free survey.
Can I replace the windows in my ex-council flat in Waterlooville?
Usually yes, but flats do not have householder permitted development rights, so planning permission may be needed. If you are a leaseholder, you will also need consent from the freeholder, which may be the council or a housing association. Get both sorted before ordering; we can provide specifications and drawings to support your requests.
Do you fit conservatories in Waterlooville?
Yes. We build conservatories, orangeries and porches, and fit roof lanterns, across Waterlooville, Cowplain, Purbrook and nearby villages. Whether you need planning permission depends on the size and position of the structure and the property type. The survey is free, and we will explain the options for your garden and house.
