If you are looking for double glazing in Andover, Inspired Glazing fabricates aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fits them with its own installers. We also supply UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We do not have an Andover branch: the team drives across from Fifield, roughly 50 miles by road and usually around an hour, so the people who measure your home are the same people who install it.

An old market town that grew fast after the war
Andover’s story explains the mix of windows you see on its streets. The historic core around the High Street is old. The Angel Inn dates from the 15th century, and Georgian buildings line Newbury Street and Church Close near St Mary’s Church. Then, from the 1950s, the town took London overspill. The first new council houses were ready by 1954, and a 1961 plan set out around 9,000 new homes. That growth is why so much of Andover dates from the 1960s and 1970s. More recently, estates such as Augusta Park, Picket Twenty and Saxon Fields have added newer houses on the edges.
Broadly, Andover homes fall into three groups when it comes to windows:
- Expansion-era houses and flats with first- or second-generation frames that are now draughty, misted or hard to open;
- older town-centre properties where appearance and planning matter more;
- newer estate homes where the owners want a wider opening to the garden or a room that gets used all year.
Which products fit which Andover homes
Replacing tired 1960s and 1970s frames
For a straightforward like-for-like swap, our UPVC windows and doors use the Selecta Advance 70 system, in white or woodgrain finishes. If you want slimmer sightlines, our aluminium windows start from £400. The core range is the Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement, with Cortizo and Alunet systems as alternatives.
Front doors
A composite door is a solid, low-maintenance choice for a semi or terrace. We do not make timber doors, but composite and woodgrain finishes give a similar look.
Opening up the back of the house
For gardens on the newer estates, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding patio doors and Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors are the usual options. We also build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns.
Planning in Test Valley
Andover’s planning authority is Test Valley Borough Council. The Andover town conservation area was first designated in 1969 and extended in 1984. It centres on the High Street and its approaches, including London Street, Bridge Street and Marlborough Street, with the church and Georgian groups to the north. In 2021 the council consulted on redrawing that boundary, so check with Test Valley Borough Council for the current map. Several nearby villages, including Abbotts Ann and the Pentons, have conservation areas of their own.
Two points are worth knowing before you order. Flats, including those built during the expansion years, have no householder permitted development rights, so replacement windows may need consent and the freeholder’s agreement. Listed buildings always need listed building consent. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains the basics.

The Anton valley and the villages around it
Andover grew up on the River Anton, a major tributary of the Test. The Domesday Book recorded six watermills here, and Rooksbury Mill is one of the few mill buildings still standing. Out in the villages the feel changes. Abbotts Ann and the Pentons each have a conservation area appraisal from Test Valley Borough Council. That makes them places where we would suggest checking before you choose frame colours or styles, particularly on older cottages. Andover Town Council was revived in 2010 and comments on local matters, but planning decisions still sit with the borough council.
Why a Windsor-area firm for Andover?
Because we make the aluminium frames ourselves, you deal with one business from the survey to the last bead of sealant. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver. For our team, Andover is one of the closer Hampshire towns, so a day’s fitting here is very manageable.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a showroom or office in Andover?
No. Our only base is at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor, where we also make our aluminium windows and doors. The team drives to Andover, which is roughly 50 miles and around an hour away. We survey and fit in your home, and you are welcome to visit the Fifield workshop by arrangement.
Is Andover town centre a conservation area?
Yes. Test Valley Borough Council designated the Andover conservation area in 1969 and extended it in 1984. It covers the High Street and approaches such as London Street, Bridge Street and Marlborough Street. The council consulted on boundary changes in 2021, so check the current map with Test Valley before you change windows.
Can I replace windows in my Andover flat without permission?
Not always. Flats and maisonettes do not have householder permitted development rights, so replacement windows can need planning permission. If you lease the flat, you will usually need the freeholder's agreement too. Check with Test Valley Borough Council and your freeholder before ordering. We can give you frame drawings and specifications to support any request.
What do aluminium windows cost for an Andover house?
Our aluminium windows start from £400 per window. The final price depends on size, opening style, colour and glass. A house built during Andover's 1960s expansion often has standard openings, which can make pricing simpler. A free survey gives you a fixed written quote, and our cost guide explains what drives the figure.
How long does an Andover installation take?
Aluminium windows are made in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days after the survey and order. Fitting a typical house takes one to a few days, depending on how many windows and doors there are. Because we travel about an hour each way, we plan the fitting days with you in advance.
