A garrison town becoming a new town

For more than a century Bordon was an Army town, and much of its housing was built for military families. The Army moved out around 2015, and the former garrison land is being redeveloped as part of the Whitehill & Bordon regeneration, with around 2,400 new homes planned on former Ministry of Defence land alongside a new town centre, schools and green space such as Hogmoor Inclosure.

That gives Bordon an unusual mix. Older estates from the 1960s to the 1980s, including former service family homes now privately owned, sit next to brand-new developments. In Lindford, Headley and the surrounding villages you find older cottages, inter-war houses and bungalows. Each group tends to need something different from us.

The landscape around the town is part of its appeal. Woolmer Forest, the Deadwater Valley and the open heath at Hogmoor give many streets a semi-rural outlook, and homes backing onto green space are where wider garden doors tend to make the biggest difference. If your new-build house is still within its builder’s warranty period, check what the warranty says about alterations before changing doors or adding a conservatory, so that cover on the rest of the house is not affected.

What we fit in Bordon homes

Older estate and ex-service houses

Many of these homes still have early UPVC or aluminium frames from the 1980s or 1990s. A full replacement with UPVC windows and doors on Selecta Advance 70 is the most economical route, or choose aluminium windows, including the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement and Cortizo and Alunet systems, for slimmer frames and more colour options. A composite door is a popular upgrade at the front.

New-build homes

Newer houses rarely need new windows, but their owners often ask us to open up the back of the house. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors can replace a standard patio door, and conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns add space.

Village cottages

We do not make timber windows. For cottages in Headley or Kingsley, woodgrain-finish UPVC or heritage-colour aluminium gives a traditional look, and secondary glazing can help where original windows must stay.

Planning in East Hampshire

East Hampshire District Council is the planning authority for Whitehill & Bordon. The South Downs National Park lies a few miles to the south, and some of the surrounding villages fall within it, where the South Downs National Park Authority makes planning decisions. On new estates, the original planning permission sometimes removes permitted development rights, which can affect conservatories, extensions and new openings. If your home is new, listed, in a conservation area or inside the National Park, check with East Hampshire District Council or the National Park Authority before ordering. Our guide to planning and replacement windows covers the basics.

Places we cover nearby

As well as Bordon and Whitehill, we quote in Lindford, Headley, Headley Down, Kingsley, Greatham and Oakhanger. Nearby pages include double glazing in Alton, Haslemere and Petersfield.

From Fifield to Bordon

We have no office or showroom in Hampshire; our only premises are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield. Bordon is roughly 35 miles away by road, usually around 50 minutes via the M3 and A325 through Farnham. That is close enough for a straightforward survey visit, and our team travels from Fifield for every installation.

Our surveyor measures every opening, shows samples and talks through frames, colours, glass and any planning questions. You then receive a written quotation, and our double glazing cost guide explains what changes the price. Frames are built in our workshop and fitted by our own installers, who clear up before they leave.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit bifold doors to my new-build Bordon home?

Usually, but check your planning history first. Replacing an existing patio door with bifolds or sliding doors of similar size is often straightforward, but widening the opening affects structure, and some new estates have conditions removing permitted development rights. Check with East Hampshire District Council, and your home's warranty terms, before ordering.

Is Bordon in the South Downs National Park?

No. Whitehill & Bordon itself is outside the National Park and East Hampshire District Council handles planning there. The park boundary lies a few miles to the south, and some surrounding villages are inside it, where the South Downs National Park Authority decides applications. If you are unsure, check your address with the council.

Should I replace the 1980s windows in my Bordon house?

If the units are misting, the hinges are worn or the frames no longer seal, replacement is usually worthwhile. UPVC on the Selecta Advance 70 system is the economical choice, while aluminium from £400 per window gives slimmer frames and more colour options. A survey will tell you what each opening needs.

How far is Bordon from your workshop?

Bordon is roughly 35 miles from our Fifield workshop, usually around 50 minutes via the M3 and A325, depending on traffic. We have no Hampshire branch, so our surveyor and fitters travel from Fifield. The distance is short enough that arranging a survey date is usually quick and easy.

Do you make windows to match a village cottage near Bordon?

We do not make timber windows, but we can get close to a traditional look. Woodgrain-finish UPVC and heritage-colour aluminium both suit cottages, and composite doors come in period designs. If the cottage is listed or in a conservation area, check with the council first, as secondary glazing may be the better answer.
