Double Glazing in Aldershot: Aluminium & UPVC Windows and Doors

Aldershot is around sixteen and a half miles from our Fifield workshop, measured as the crow flies, on the Hampshire side of the Surrey border. Our team covers the town regularly. We fabricate aluminium windows and doors in our own workshop near Windsor and install them with our own people, who travel down for each survey and each fitting day. There is no Aldershot branch; what you get is the same team from start to finish.

A Victorian military town and its housing

Aldershot changed almost overnight when the Military Camp was established in 1854. By 1871 the combined military and civilian population had passed 21,000. Wooden huts gave way to permanent brick barracks from 1881, and the civilian town grew alongside: a grid of mid-to-late Victorian streets in the centre, terraces for the people who served and supplied the camp, and larger middle-class and officers’ houses on new roads such as Cargate Avenue, south-west of the centre.

Much of that Victorian and Edwardian housing remains, now mixed with inter-war semis, post-war estates and newer flats near the town centre and on former military land. Victorian terraces are where we spend a lot of our time in Aldershot, usually replacing older, tired double glazing with something that looks closer to the original proportions.

Planning and conservation areas in Aldershot

Planning in Aldershot is handled by Rushmoor Borough Council. Conservation areas in the Aldershot part of the borough include:

Rushmoor notes that some of its conservation areas have Article 4 directions removing certain permitted development rights. Check with Rushmoor Borough Council before changing windows or doors on a street-facing elevation, especially on a terrace where a consistent pattern matters. We can provide product drawings to support an application.

Ash, Ash Vale and nearby areas

Just east of Aldershot, over the Blackwater Valley and into Surrey, lie Ash and Ash Vale. They share Aldershot’s GU12 postcode but fall within Guildford borough, so planning there is handled by Guildford Borough Council. Surrey’s borough councils are being replaced, and from 1 April 2027 Guildford’s area moves to the new West Surrey council. If you live in Ash or Ash Vale, check with whichever authority is responsible when you apply.

We also cover North Town, Heron Wood, Ash Green, Tongham and the edge of Farnborough, which has its own Farnborough page.

Choosing products for Aldershot homes

Victorian terraces and villas. Narrow fronts and repeated window patterns mean frame width really shows. Our core aluminium window, the Reynaers SlimLine 68, has a 38 mm minimum frame width for outward-opening units according to the Reynaers SL68 product page, and can take glazing bars. We also offer Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows. For a terrace in a conservation area, we will check what the council expects before recommending anything.

Back-of-house and extensions. Many terraces and semis have had a kitchen extension added. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors work in tighter gardens because the panels do not swing out, while bifold doors from Smart Visofold or Cortizo give a fully open corner where space allows.

Rentals, flats and estate homes. Aldershot has plenty of rented housing, and UPVC windows (Advance 70) are often the most practical replacement. A composite front door adds security and kerb appeal.

To compare materials in more detail, read our aluminium windows in Surrey and UPVC windows in Surrey guides, or visit the Surrey windows and doors hub, which also covers this part of Hampshire.

What to expect from survey and fit

We start with a home visit from Fifield. On older terraces we look closely at lintels, reveals and any movement in the brickwork, because Victorian openings are rarely square. You get a written quote with the system, glass and colour spelled out, starting from £400.

Your aluminium frames are then made in our workshop, with a lead time starting from 10 days. Our installers travel down on the agreed day, remove the old frames, fit and seal the new ones, make good and take away the waste. Every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Do you install windows in Aldershot and Ash?

Yes. Aldershot is about sixteen miles from our Fifield workshop in a straight line, and we cover Ash, Ash Vale, North Town and Tongham as well. Our own team travels from Fifield for surveys and installations. We do not have a local office in Aldershot, but the town is a regular part of our working area.

Who handles planning for Ash and Ash Vale?

Although they share an Aldershot postcode, Ash and Ash Vale are in Surrey, within Guildford borough, so Guildford Borough Council currently handles planning. From 1 April 2027 that passes to the new West Surrey council. Aldershot itself is handled by Rushmoor Borough Council in Hampshire. Check with the right authority before ordering.

What windows suit a Victorian terrace in Aldershot?

Terraces look best when the new windows respect the original proportions. Slim aluminium frames such as Reynaers SlimLine 68 can carry glazing bars and keep sightlines fine. UPVC can also work where budget matters. If the street is in a conservation area, check with Rushmoor Borough Council first, as the expected style and material may be limited.

Are sliding doors better than bifolds for a small garden?

Often, yes. Sliding doors such as Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 run along a track, so nothing swings into the garden, which helps where space is tight. Bifold doors from Smart Visofold or Cortizo fold away to open almost the full width, but need clear space when open. We will look at your garden at survey and advise.

Can you replace windows in a rented property?

Yes. We regularly quote for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. UPVC is often the practical choice for rental properties, and composite doors add security at the front. We will give a clear written quotation naming the products and finish, and arrange access and timings that work for you and your tenants.
