Edenbridge is a small Wealden town on the River Eden, close to the Surrey border and a short drive from Hever Castle. Its old High Street follows the line of a Roman road down to the river crossing, and along it you will find some of the best timber-framed buildings in this corner of Kent. Inspired Glazing makes and installs aluminium windows, sliding and bifold doors, UPVC windows and composite doors for homes in the town and the villages around it.

The character of Edenbridge homes
The town has grown in clear stages, and each stage brings different glazing questions:
- The historic core around the High Street and Church Street has fifteenth- and sixteenth-century timber-framed houses, many now shops or offices, alongside weatherboarded, tile-hung and brick-fronted buildings.
- Victorian and Edwardian villas and terraces followed the railway, and Marlpit Hill to the north grew into part of the town.
- Post-war estates, including Stangrove Park and Spitals Cross, and later housing make up much of the rest, and these are where most of our replacement work tends to be.
The town centre also sits on a floodplain and has flooded several times, most recently in December 2019. If you are replacing doors on a low-lying property, it is worth talking through threshold heights and drainage at the survey.
The Edenbridge Conservation Area
Sevenoaks District Council designated the Edenbridge Conservation Area in 2001 and updated its boundary in 2012. The council’s appraisal notes that the most common historic windows are white-painted timber sashes and casements, and it lists the loss of traditional timber windows, and their replacement with cheap UPVC, as a key concern. Listed buildings need Listed Building Consent before the form of their windows is changed.
In practice, that means modern frames may not be appropriate for every building on the High Street. If your home is in the conservation area or is listed, please check with Sevenoaks District Council before you commit. We will tell you honestly at the survey if we think a property is better suited to a specialist timber joiner, and for unlisted homes we can provide drawings and samples to support your discussion with the council.
Villages we cover around Edenbridge
Hever and Chiddingstone
Hever, home to the castle, and Chiddingstone, which the National Trust describes as one of the best-preserved Tudor villages in the country, are both deeply historic. Many cottages here will need a cautious, heritage-led approach.
Cowden and Four Elms
Cowden lies to the south near the Sussex border, and Four Elms to the east on the road towards Sevenoaks. Both have a mix of older rural cottages and later houses where aluminium or UPVC can work well.
Crockham Hill
On the slopes of the greensand ridge to the north, Crockham Hill has larger houses with views over the Weald, where wide sliding doors make the most of the outlook.
Choosing products for an Edenbridge home
For aluminium windows, our core range is the Reynaers SlimLine 68. Reynaers offers it in Classic and Ferro design variants, describes ultra-slim sightlines in the outward-opening version, and lists PAS 24 and Secured by Design ratings (Reynaers SlimLine 68). The Classic variant is often the better fit for Victorian villas, where a softer, more traditional profile matters. We also make Cortizo and Alunet windows; see our aluminium windows in Kent page.
For garden openings we fit the Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding door and bifold doors from Smart Visofold and Cortizo. On the post-war estates, UPVC windows using Advance 70 are a good-value choice, and our composite doors make a secure, low-maintenance front entrance.
Survey and installation from Fifield
Inspired Glazing is based at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor. We do not have a branch in Edenbridge. The town is around 55 miles away by road, and the drive normally takes a little over an hour, round the M25 and down through Oxted or Westerham. At the survey we measure every opening, look at the condition of the frames and surrounding walls, discuss styles and colours, and note access on narrow lanes. Your windows and doors are built in our own workshop and fitted by our own team, who remove the old frames and clear up afterwards. Our lead time is from 10 days and our guarantee lasts 10 years.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fit aluminium or UPVC windows in the Edenbridge Conservation Area?
Possibly, but it depends on the building. Sevenoaks District Council’s appraisal favours white-painted timber windows on historic properties and raises concerns about cheap UPVC replacements. Listed buildings need Listed Building Consent to change their windows. Check with Sevenoaks District Council before ordering, and we will give you an honest view at the survey.
Do you work on timber-framed houses on Edenbridge High Street?
We look at every enquiry, but many timber-framed buildings on the High Street are listed and may be better served by a specialist timber joiner. If modern aluminium frames are not appropriate, we will say so. For unlisted homes nearby, we can supply drawings and samples to help you discuss options with the council.
What should I think about when replacing doors on a low-lying Edenbridge home?
The town centre sits on the River Eden floodplain and has flooded several times. When we survey a ground-floor door, we look at threshold height, drainage and the level of the ground outside. This helps you choose a door and threshold detail that suits the property. Flood-specific products are a separate specialist area.
How long does it take your team to reach Edenbridge?
Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, about 55 miles from Edenbridge by road. The journey usually takes a little over an hour using the M25. We plan surveys and installation days around this, and the same in-house team that makes your windows and doors carries out the fitting.
Do you cover Hever, Chiddingstone and Cowden?
Yes. We cover Hever, Chiddingstone, Cowden, Four Elms, Crockham Hill and other villages around Edenbridge. Many of these villages have historic cottages, so we always discuss planning with you early. For listed or conservation-area homes, please check with Sevenoaks District Council before placing an order.
