Double Glazing in Coventry: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

For double glazing in Coventry, Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop and fits them with its own team, and also installs UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We are not a Coventry firm: our only premises are at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 90 miles away by road, or around an hour and three-quarters on the M40 and A46. We book surveys and installation dates in advance so the distance is planned in, not left to chance.

A city of three building booms

Coventry’s homes tell a clear story. In the mid-1800s the watch trade spread out from Spon Street into Chapelfields and Earlsdon, where Freehold Land Societies helped artisans buy plots. Their plain terraces, some with bay windows and decorative lintels, still have old watch workshops at the rear, and by 1914 infill housing had joined the two areas into one.

Between the wars, private builders and the council expanded Radford, Coundon, Canley, Cheylesmore and Stoke Heath. Then came the Blitz. The raid of November 1940 damaged or destroyed more than 4,000 houses, and post-war rebuilding produced new suburbs such as Tile Hill, Wood End and Stoke Aldermoor, while the centre was rebuilt under the Gibson Plan around a pedestrian precinct.

So a Coventry survey might mean a 1900s terrace in Earlsdon one day, a 1930s semi in Coundon the next, and a post-war house in Tile Hill after that, each with different openings and different priorities.

Planning: Coventry City Council and its conservation areas

Coventry City Council is the planning authority. It lists nineteen conservation areas, including Earlsdon, Chapelfields, Spon End, Spon Street, Allesley Village, Kenilworth Road, Greyfriars Green, Far Gosford Street, Stoke Green, Brownshill Green, Hawkesbury Junction and the Coventry Canal. One of the more surprising is Ivy Farm Lane, which keeps the old hamlet of Canley inside the post-war city, so a protected street can sit only a few minutes from an ordinary estate. The council explains that not every conservation area has an Article 4 direction, but where one applies it can bring replacement windows under planning control; an Article 4(1) direction was made in July 2025 for Lady Herbert’s Garden and The Burges.

Coventry also has a large number of flats, and flats have no householder permitted development rights, so new windows in a block usually need planning permission as well as the freeholder’s or management company’s consent. If in doubt, check with Coventry City Council, and read our guide to planning permission for replacement windows.

Which of our products fit Coventry houses

Terraces in Earlsdon, Chapelfields and Spon End. Where the frames face the street in a conservation area, slim aluminium is often the closest modern match. Our aluminium windows include the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement and the Cortizo and Alunet ranges. We do not make timber windows; woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium is our timber-look option.

Interwar semis and post-war houses. In Coundon, Cheylesmore, Canley or Tile Hill, UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system replace tired frames cost-effectively, and a composite front door improves security and kerb appeal.

Rear extensions and garden openings anywhere in the city. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors open up the back of the house, and a conservatory, orangery or roof lantern adds light. We also offer porches, secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters.

Districts we cover

We work across the city, including Earlsdon, Chapelfields, Allesley, Coundon, Cheylesmore, Stivichall, Finham, Tile Hill, Canley, Walsgrave and Keresley. Nearby, see double glazing in Kenilworth, Bedworth and Rugby.

Survey, make, fit

Our surveyor visits on a pre-arranged day, measures each opening and talks through glass, colours and handles with you. Aluminium windows start from £400, and our cost guide sets out what affects a whole-house price. Aluminium frames are made in Fifield, with lead times from 10 days, and our own installers drive up on the agreed date, fit and seal everything and remove the old frames. Work is covered by a 10-year guarantee. We hold Constructionline Silver and appear on Reynaers’ list of Reynaers at Home installer partners.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission for new windows in Earlsdon or Chapelfields?

Both are among Coventry's nineteen conservation areas. Like-for-like replacement on a house is often permitted development, but an Article 4 direction can remove that right, and flats always need permission. Coventry City Council can confirm the position for your street, so check with them before you place an order.

Is there an Inspired Glazing showroom in Coventry?

No. Our only workshop and office is at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 90 miles from Coventry by road. We bring frame samples, colour charts and glass options to your home at the free survey, and we plan installation dates in advance around the journey.

Can you replace windows in a Coventry flat?

We can, but flats have no householder permitted development rights, so new windows usually need planning permission from Coventry City Council. You will also need written consent from the freeholder or management company. We can supply drawings and specifications to support both applications once the survey is done.

What windows suit a 1930s semi in Coundon or Cheylesmore?

Most interwar semis suit UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system, which is a cost-effective like-for-like upgrade, or aluminium if you want slimmer frames and more glass. If your house still has its bays or leaded detail, we can talk through glazing bar options that keep the original look.

How much are aluminium windows in Coventry?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 each. Size, opening type, glass specification, colour and the number of windows all affect the final figure. After the free survey you get an itemised written quote, and our double glazing cost guide explains the main price factors in more detail.
