Double Glazing in Crowthorne: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Double glazing in Crowthorne is something we can do without a long trek: Inspired Glazing’s workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, is roughly 14 miles away by road, around 25 to 30 minutes’ drive. We fabricate aluminium windows and doors there, supply UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories, and fit everything with our own team. We do not have a Crowthorne office, but being this close means quick surveys and easy return visits.

A village that grew around two institutions

Crowthorne was little more than a hamlet in pine heathland until Wellington College opened in 1859 and Broadmoor Hospital followed in 1863. The station, originally called Wellington College for Crowthorne, opened in 1860, and the village grew quickly to house staff, tradespeople and commuters. Its name was chosen so that post from Wokingham could find it.

The result is a recognisable mix. Around the High Street, Duke’s Ride and Waterloo Road you find Victorian and Edwardian villas and cottages in red brick, often with bays and decorative detailing. Edgcumbe Park, built between 1958 and 1972, added a large estate of post-war family houses, and later closes and infill have followed. The Road Research Laboratory, now TRL, arrived in the 1960s and shaped the north of the village.

The Crowthorne conservation area

Crowthorne is mostly in Bracknell Forest, where the council handles planning. Bracknell Forest has six conservation areas, and one is in Crowthorne, lying mainly within the triangle formed by Duke’s Ride, Waterloo Road and the High Street. Parts of the built-up area spill into Wokingham Without, which is in Wokingham Borough instead. If your home is in the conservation area, listed or a flat, check with the right council before replacing windows or doors. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so permission and freeholder consent can be needed. Our planning permission guide explains the general rules.

Choosing windows and doors for Crowthorne houses

Victorian and Edwardian villas

The Reynaers SlimLine 68 is our core aluminium window: an outward-opening casement with slim frames that respect the proportions of older openings. We also make Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows. We do not make timber windows or doors; woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium is the timber-look alternative, which matters if you are in the conservation area.

Edgcumbe Park and post-war homes

Houses from the 1960s and 1970s are often on their second or third set of windows. UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a straightforward upgrade, and a composite front door finishes the front elevation.

Gardens backing onto woodland

Many Crowthorne gardens back onto pine trees and heath. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors bring that outlook indoors, and we build conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns. We also fit garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters.

Living among the pines

Crowthorne is surrounded by conifer plantations and heath, from Crowthorne Woods to the land around Heath Lake. Tall trees mean shaded rooms, needles in gutters and leaf litter on door thresholds. Larger glazed areas help bring light into darker rooms, and new fascias, soffits and guttering can be fitted at the same visit to save a second set of scaffolding or ladders. We look at all of this together at survey.

Around Crowthorne

We regularly work in Owlsmoor, Little Sandhurst, Finchampstead, Pinewood and Wokingham Without, as well as Crowthorne itself. Nearby pages include double glazing in Sandhurst, Wokingham and Yateley, and our Berkshire double glazing page covers the county.

Survey and fitting from Fifield

Because we are close, we can usually offer a survey at a time that suits you, including Saturday mornings. We measure every opening, show you frame colours and hardware, and follow up with a written quote. Aluminium windows start from £400; our double glazing cost guide explains the rest. Frames are fabricated in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days, and our own fitters drive over, remove the old frames, fit, seal and tidy up. Every installation carries a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a conservation area in Crowthorne?

Yes. Bracknell Forest Council has a Crowthorne conservation area lying mainly within the triangle of Duke's Ride, Waterloo Road and the High Street. If your home is inside it, listed or a flat, check with Bracknell Forest Council before replacing windows or doors, as different rules can apply to visible elevations.

Which council do I ask about planning in Crowthorne?

Most of Crowthorne is in Bracknell Forest, so Bracknell Forest Council handles planning. Some of the built-up area, though, extends into Wokingham Without, which is part of Wokingham Borough. Check your council tax bill if you are unsure, then ask that council about listed buildings, conservation areas or flats.

How close are you to Crowthorne?

Our workshop and office are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 14 miles from Crowthorne by road, around 25 to 30 minutes' drive. We have no Crowthorne premises, but being nearby means flexible survey times and quick visits if anything needs adjusting after the installation.

What windows suit an Edgcumbe Park house?

Edgcumbe Park homes, built between 1958 and 1972, usually suit UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system as a cost-effective upgrade, or aluminium if you want slimmer frames and a more modern look. A composite front door completes the job. We show samples and give a fixed quote at a free survey.

How much do aluminium windows cost in Crowthorne?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 each. The final price depends on the size, opening style, colour and glass, and on how many windows you replace at once. We give a fixed written quote after a free survey, and our double glazing cost guide explains the main factors in more detail.
