Double Glazing in Fareham: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Inspired Glazing provides double glazing in Fareham, covering aluminium windows and doors fabricated in our own workshop, UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories, all installed by our own team. We should be clear from the start that we are not local: our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 65 miles away by road, or about an hour and a quarter in normal traffic. Fareham surveys and installations are therefore planned in advance, and the team travels down for each one.

Georgian High Street, harbour edge and 1960s growth

Fareham sits at the north-west tip of Portsmouth Harbour, where Fareham Creek once served a working port. Its best-known street is the High Street, lined with Georgian buildings and protected since 1969 as one of the earliest conservation areas in the country; it contains 86 listed buildings. The town itself grew fast from the 1960s, when large-scale housing development brought it almost up to Funtley, Titchfield, Catisfield and Portchester. Locks Heath, Park Gate and Whiteley followed in later decades, and Welborne, a planned new community of around 6,000 homes north of the M27, is now under way.

Portchester, east along the harbour, has its own conservation area on Castle Street leading to the castle, while Titchfield is an old village with a historic centre and the ruins of Titchfield Abbey nearby, each with its own conservation area.

So Fareham windows range from listed Georgian sashes to 1960s and 1970s semis to nearly new homes. On the waterside, at Portchester, Warsash or along the creek, salt air and exposure to wind off the water are worth considering when choosing frames, finishes and hardware.

Thirteen conservation areas

Fareham Borough Council is the planning authority, and the borough has 13 conservation areas: Cams Hall, Catisfield, Fareham High Street, Hook, Osborn Road, Portchester Castle Street, Sarisbury Green, Swanwick Shore, Titchfield, Titchfield Abbey, Town Quay, Wallington and Warsash. That is a lot for one borough, so it is worth checking a map before ordering. If your home is in one of them, listed, or a flat, check with Fareham Borough Council first. Flats do not have householder permitted development rights. Our replacement windows and planning guide gives more background.

Product guide for Fareham homes

Coastal and exposed homes. Our aluminium windows are made from powder-coated profiles, and the Reynaers SlimLine 68 casement, made in our own workshop, is rigid and slim. Cortizo and Alunet are also available. Ask us about finishes and maintenance if you live close to the water. Prices start from £400 per window.

1960s to 1990s family houses. UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a dependable, affordable replacement for older frames in Fareham, Stubbington and Locks Heath.

Period properties. Our range has no timber products. Woodgrain UPVC, heritage aluminium colours and composite doors are our traditional-look options; where a listed building needs timber, we will say so.

Opening up the garden. Bifold doors by Smart Visofold or Cortizo, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, and conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns.

Listed and conservation homes

For a listed house on the High Street or in Titchfield, where replacing the original windows may not be allowed, secondary glazing fitted inside the existing windows can be a practical way to cut draughts and noise. It still needs the council’s agreement on a listed building, so speak to Fareham Borough Council’s conservation team before going ahead.

Areas covered around Fareham

Frequently asked questions

Which conservation areas are there in Fareham?

Fareham Borough Council lists 13: Cams Hall, Catisfield, Fareham High Street, Hook, Osborn Road, Portchester Castle Street, Sarisbury Green, Swanwick Shore, Titchfield, Titchfield Abbey, Town Quay, Wallington and Warsash. The High Street area, designated in 1969, contains 86 listed buildings. If your home is in any of them, check with the council before replacing windows.

Are aluminium windows suitable for homes near the water in Fareham?

Aluminium is a strong choice for exposed homes because the frames are rigid and the powder-coated finish needs little upkeep. Salt air is harder on any window, so we discuss finishes, hardware and simple cleaning at the survey for homes in Portchester, Warsash or near the creek. Our Reynaers SlimLine 68 windows start from £400.

Do you have an office in Fareham?

No. Our only premises are at Coningsby Farm, Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 65 miles by road, or about an hour and a quarter's drive. Our own team travels for every survey and installation. Because of the distance, we plan Fareham appointments in advance and confirm the times with you.

Can I put double glazing in a listed building on Fareham High Street?

Changes to a listed building's windows normally need listed building consent from Fareham Borough Council, and the council may require like-for-like timber. We do not make timber windows, so speak to the council's conservation officer first. If they accept an alternative or secondary glazing, we can help; secondary glazing is one of the products we install.

How much does double glazing cost in Fareham?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 each. UPVC is usually cheaper per window, and the total depends on size, style, colour, glass and how many windows you replace. Our double glazing cost guide explains the factors, and a free survey gives you a written, fixed quote with fitting by our own team included.
