A market town that kept on growing
Hailsham’s old centre is small: the High Street, Market Street and the area around St Mary’s church form the Hailsham conservation area, with listed buildings scattered through it. Most of the town, though, is far younger. Hailsham has grown steadily since the mid-twentieth century, with large estates of semis, bungalows and detached houses followed by more recent developments on the edges of town, and further housing still being planned by Wealden District Council.
That shapes what we are usually asked for. Homes from the 1960s to the 1990s are often on their second set of windows, and the frames fitted in the 1980s or 1990s are now showing their age: misted units, tired hinges and doors that no longer seal. Newer houses tend to want something different, typically a wider opening to the garden or a conservatory roof replacement rather than new windows.
Products that suit Hailsham homes
For estate houses and bungalows
UPVC windows and doors on Selecta Advance 70 are a practical, cost-effective upgrade for the town’s many post-war and late-twentieth-century homes. Bungalows in particular benefit from good-quality composite doors, which give a solid, secure entrance without regular painting.
For a more modern look
Our aluminium windows and doors include the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement alongside Cortizo and Alunet systems. Slim frames and a wide choice of colours suit newer homes and extensions. To the rear, consider Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding patio doors, or Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors.
For more space
We build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns, and can also supply secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits and guttering, and blinds and shutters.
Planning and the Levels
Wealden District Council is the planning authority for Hailsham. If your property is in the conservation area around the High Street and Market Street, or is listed, check with Wealden District Council before changing windows or doors on the front of the building. The council’s planning pages show the conservation area boundary, so you can confirm whether your street is inside it before booking a survey. For most houses on the town’s estates, like-for-like replacements are normally treated as permitted development, but our planning permission guide explains the exceptions.
To the east of town lie the Pevensey Levels, low, open and often windy grazing marsh. Homes facing that way can take the weather head-on, so it is worth discussing glass and door options at survey stage. On newer estates, also check whether the original planning consent removed permitted development rights, which sometimes happens and would affect a conservatory or a new opening.
Where we work around Hailsham
Alongside the town we cover Hellingly, Lower Horsebridge, Lower Dicker, Magham Down, Herstmonceux and Polegate. Our nearby pages include double glazing in Eastbourne and Uckfield, and you can see the full region on our Sussex windows and doors page.
Surveys and installation from Fifield
We are honest about distance. Our only premises are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, and there is no office or showroom in Sussex. Hailsham is roughly 85 miles away by road, typically around an hour and fifty minutes via the M25 and M23, then the A27 or A22. Surveys and installation days are therefore planned in advance around that journey.
A typical job runs like this: you send photos or call for a rough figure; we arrange a survey to measure and talk through frames, colours and glass; you receive a written quote; your frames are made in our workshop; and our fitters install them, seal them and tidy up. Our cost guide explains what drives the final price.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a conservation area in Hailsham?
Yes. The Hailsham conservation area covers the historic centre around the High Street, Market Street and St Mary's church, and there are listed buildings within it. If your home is inside the boundary or listed, check with Wealden District Council before replacing front windows or doors. Most homes on the town's later estates are outside the conservation area.
Can you replace the windows in my Hailsham bungalow?
Yes. Bungalows are a common job for us, and the work is usually quick because all openings are on the ground floor. UPVC on the Selecta Advance 70 system is the most economical choice, while aluminium gives slimmer frames. A composite front door and new patio doors can be fitted at the same visit if you want everything done together.
Do new-build homes in Hailsham need permission for a conservatory?
Sometimes. On some newer estates, the original planning consent removes permitted development rights, which means extensions such as conservatories need a planning application. Your property's planning history will show this. Check with Wealden District Council before ordering, and our surveyor can explain what details the council usually asks for.
How far is Hailsham from your workshop?
Hailsham is roughly 85 miles from Fifield by road, usually around an hour and fifty minutes. We have no Sussex branch, so the surveyor and installation team travel from Fifield. We plan both visits in advance around the journey, so the fitters arrive early with all the frames and materials needed to finish the job.
How soon can I have new windows fitted?
Lead times start from 10 days once the survey is complete and the order is confirmed, because we fabricate aluminium frames in our own workshop rather than waiting on an outside supplier. Because Hailsham is a longer journey for us, the installation date is agreed with you in advance, and larger orders or special colours can take longer.
