A town shaped by the Mole and the railway
Leatherhead grew up at a ford on the River Mole, and its old centre around Church Street, the High Street and Bridge Street still holds buildings from several centuries, including Hampton Cottage, which dates from before 1682. The real housing growth came later. Edwardian streets such as Fairfield, Highlands and Kingston Roads were built in the 1900s, the first council houses went up on Poplar Road in 1921, and the Givons Grove estate was laid out south of the town in the late 1920s and early 1930s. After the war, replacement homes were built north of the centre along Cleeve, Kingston and Copthorne Roads.
The M25 reached the town in 1985, and the A24 runs through towards Dorking, so homes near either road may be as interested in quieter rooms as in warmer ones. On the other side of town the River Mole runs west of the centre, with a local nature reserve stretching from Young Street to Waterway Road. A survey always looks at how exposed each elevation is before we suggest glass and frame options.
That mix means a Leatherhead survey can range from a bay-fronted Edwardian house to a 1930s detached home in Givons Grove or a flat in the northern part of town, where flats and semis are common.
Planning and the Leatherhead Article 4 Direction
Leatherhead’s town centre is a conservation area with almost 40 listed buildings, and Mole Valley District Council lists it as one of three conservation areas, with Dorking and Brockham, where an Article 4 Direction adds planning controls in parts of the area. Fetcham, Ashtead, Great Bookham, Little Bookham and Mickleham also have conservation areas. If your home falls within one, check with Mole Valley District Council before you order; from 1 April 2027 planning passes to the new East Surrey council. Our planning guide for replacement windows explains the usual questions to ask.
We do not make timber windows. Where the council will accept a timber-look alternative, woodgrain-finish UPVC or slim aluminium can be options, but the decision rests with the council, not with us.
Matching products to Leatherhead homes
Edwardian and inter-war houses
For period fronts, UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system in a woodgrain finish give a traditional look, while aluminium windows such as Reynaers SlimLine 68 suit owners who want thinner frames and a crisp painted finish.
Detached homes and extensions
Houses in the south of the town and towards the Surrey Hills villages often have room for larger openings. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors open a kitchen extension to the garden, and a roof lantern or orangery can add light to a deep room.
Front doors
A composite door is a solid, low-maintenance choice for terraces and semis alike.

How the survey and installation work
After you get in touch, a surveyor drives over from Fifield to measure, check the openings and talk through options in your home. We send a written quote, make the frames in Fifield once you are happy, and then our own fitters install them and take the old units away. We have no showroom in Leatherhead; all our making is done at Fifield.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Leatherhead Article 4 Direction affect replacing my windows?
It might. Mole Valley District Council says an Article 4 Direction adds planning controls in parts of the Leatherhead conservation area, which can bring changes such as new windows or doors under planning control. Check with the council before ordering; from April 2027 that will be the East Surrey council. Our surveyor can talk you through what to ask.
Which window style suits a 1930s house in Givons Grove?
Many inter-war houses suit casement windows with a clean, simple layout. You can choose UPVC on the Selecta Advance 70 system, including woodgrain finishes, or aluminium such as Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement with slimmer frames. Our surveyor will look at the existing openings and suggest layouts that keep the house's character.
How long does it take to travel from Fifield to Leatherhead?
Leatherhead is around 30 miles from our Fifield workshop by road, usually about 40 to 45 minutes via the M25, though traffic can add to that. Our surveyor and installers travel over from Fifield for each job. We do not have a Leatherhead office or showroom.
Can you replace UPVC windows with aluminium in Leatherhead?
Yes, we can replace old UPVC windows with aluminium. Aluminium frames are slimmer and come in many colours, and we make them in our own Fifield workshop. In a conservation area or a flat, check with Mole Valley District Council or your freeholder first, as extra consent may be needed.
What guarantee do your Leatherhead installations come with?
Every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee. We fabricate the aluminium frames ourselves and fit them with our own team rather than subcontractors, so one company is responsible from survey to completion. Aluminium windows start from £400, and lead times start from 10 days after you approve the quote.
