Double Glazing in Sittingbourne: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Inspired Glazing fits double glazing in Sittingbourne and the surrounding Swale villages, using aluminium windows and doors fabricated in our own workshop alongside UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We should be clear about geography: we are based at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 85 miles from Sittingbourne by road, which is usually around an hour and three quarters’ drive. We do not have a Kent office, so every Sittingbourne survey and installation is planned in advance around the journey.

Brick, paper and a growing town

Sittingbourne was made by industry. Local clay fed brickfields that employed thousands of men in the nineteenth century, and paper making, which began here in 1708, grew until the mill was reportedly the world’s largest newsprint producer before closing in 2006 and 2007. Barges ran from Milton Creek to London. The result is a town of brick-built Victorian and Edwardian terraces close to the centre and the creek, with older buildings around Milton Regis, one of the area’s ancient settlements.

Kemsley was built as a model village for paper workers in the 1920s. After the war came the estates, and more recently large developments around Iwade, Great Easthall and the edges of the town, helped by the M2, the A249 and the Chatham Main Line. The town’s population has passed 54,000. That mix means we see everything from bay-fronted terraces to new-build houses whose first windows are already due for an upgrade.

Older Sittingbourne terraces often have one thing in common: decades of changes. It is normal to find a mix of original openings, 1980s replacements and later frames on the same house, sometimes with uneven reveals or tired sills. At the survey we measure each opening on its own terms, note any brickwork or lintel issues, and explain what we would do about them before you commit to anything.

Planning in Swale

Swale Borough Council handles planning here. Sittingbourne has had a town conservation area since 1969, Milton Regis High Street is a conservation area, and villages to the south such as Borden and Tunstall have their own. At the time of writing, Swale’s published Article 4 directions do not include Sittingbourne or Milton Regis, though one does cover front elevations of two cottages in Tunstall. Rules change, so check with Swale Borough Council if your home is listed or in a conservation area. Flats have no householder permitted development rights at all. Our planning guide explains when permission usually applies.

Choosing products for Sittingbourne homes

For Victorian and Edwardian brick terraces

The Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement gives slim, crisp lines that sit well against stock brick. We also fabricate Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows. If you prefer a traditional finish, woodgrain UPVC or aluminium is our answer, because we do not make timber windows.

For estate and new-build homes

UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a dependable, cost-effective choice for post-war and modern estates, with a composite front door to finish.

For opening up the garden

Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, roof lanterns, porches and conservatories and orangeries. We also fit secondary glazing, garage doors and roofline products.

Villages and suburbs covered

As well as the town centre, we cover Milton Regis, Kemsley, Murston, Bapchild, Borden and Iwade. To the east, see our page on double glazing in Faversham; across the Swale, Sheerness and the Isle of Sheppey; and to the west, Gillingham. Our Kent hub lists the rest of the county.

How we handle a job 85 miles away

We do the hard planning so you do not have to. Surveys are grouped onto days when our surveyor is working in Swale. You receive a written quote, with aluminium windows from £400, and our double glazing cost guide explains what affects price. Once you order, aluminium frames are made at Fifield with lead times from 10 days. The installation is then booked as a continuous block of days, with our own fitters travelling down with your finished frames. Everything carries a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really cover Sittingbourne from Windsor?

Yes. Our workshop and only office are at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 85 miles from Sittingbourne by road, about an hour and three quarters' drive. We plan Swale surveys and installations in advance, book fitting days consecutively and bring finished frames with us, so the distance does not affect the quality of the job.

Is there an Article 4 direction on windows in Milton Regis?

Swale Borough Council's published list of Article 4 directions does not currently include Milton Regis or Sittingbourne town. Milton Regis High Street is still a conservation area, and listed buildings always need consent, so check with Swale Borough Council before replacing windows on an older or listed property.

What windows suit a new-build in Iwade or Great Easthall?

Most new-build homes already have UPVC frames, so upgrades are usually about better glass, nicer hardware, colour or replacing a back door with sliding or bifold doors. Check your title and any estate covenants first. UPVC in the Selecta Advance 70 system or aluminium windows from £400 are both options.

Can you install bifold doors in a Sittingbourne terrace?

Often, yes. Rear extensions on Victorian and Edwardian terraces commonly take two- or three-panel Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifolds. The survey checks the opening width, the lintel and the floor level. If a bifold is not the best fit, a Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding door may suit better.

How long will I wait for new windows in Sittingbourne?

Our aluminium windows have lead times from 10 days after the order is confirmed, as we fabricate them ourselves in Fifield. Because Sittingbourne is some distance from us, we then agree an installation date that lets our fitters complete the job in one planned visit.
