Not every home needs, or suits, aluminium. For a great many houses in west Kent, from 1960s estates on the edge of Tonbridge to 1990s family homes around Maidstone, UPVC windows are the sensible, cost-effective way to replace tired or draughty frames. Inspired Glazing supplies and installs UPVC windows and doors across Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Edenbridge and Westerham, alongside our aluminium range, so you get honest advice on which material fits your house.

The UPVC system we use
Our UPVC windows are made using Advance 70. We will show you sample frames at your survey and explain the opening styles, colours and glazing choices available, so you can judge the quality for yourself before ordering. Thermal performance depends on the exact frame and glass specification, and we will give you the figures for your specific windows with your quote.
Where UPVC makes the most sense in Kent
Post-war and modern estates
Kent’s towns grew significantly after the Second World War. Tunbridge Wells gained large estates such as Sherwood and Ramslye, and Tonbridge’s post-war housing lies mainly north of the town centre. Houses like these were often built with simple casement windows, and a good UPVC replacement keeps that look while improving comfort and reducing upkeep.
Replacing older UPVC
Many homes in Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Maidstone already have UPVC windows that are now 20 or 30 years old, with misted units, worn hinges or yellowed frames. Replacing them with new UPVC is usually straightforward and keeps costs down.
Rental and budget-led projects
If you are refurbishing a rental property or working to a fixed budget, UPVC gives a durable, low-maintenance result at a lower outlay than aluminium.
When we might suggest something else
We would rather lose a sale than fit the wrong window. In west Kent there are times when UPVC is not the best choice:
- Listed buildings. Listed Building Consent is always needed to change the form of windows, and UPVC is rarely appropriate.
- Conservation areas. Some council guidance in Kent is critical of UPVC. Sevenoaks District Council’s Edenbridge conservation area appraisal, for example, identifies the loss of traditional timber windows to UPVC on unlisted buildings as a key issue. Check with your council before ordering.
- Large openings and slim sightlines. For very wide glazing or a minimal frame, an aluminium system such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68 is usually a better match. See aluminium windows in Kent.
The councils covering our Kent area are Sevenoaks District Council, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Maidstone Borough Council. Many homes also sit within the Kent Downs or High Weald National Landscapes, which is another reason to check local guidance first.
UPVC styles and options
- Casement windows, the most common style on post-war and modern Kent homes
- Tilt and turn windows, practical for upstairs rooms and easy cleaning
- Bay and bow windows, made to suit the angles of your existing bay
- A choice of colours and finishes, subject to Advance 70
- Glass options for privacy, noise and solar control
We also supply UPVC doors, and many customers pair new UPVC windows with one of our composite front doors. For the garden, aluminium sliding doors or bifold doors can sit alongside UPVC windows on the same house.

Frequently asked questions
Are UPVC windows allowed in Kent conservation areas?
It depends on the property and the area. Some Kent conservation area guidance, such as Sevenoaks District Council’s appraisal for Edenbridge, is critical of replacing traditional timber windows with UPVC. Listed buildings always need Listed Building Consent. Check with your local council before ordering, and we will give honest advice on whether UPVC or aluminium is more suitable.
Which UPVC system do you use?
Our UPVC windows use Advance 70. We bring sample frames to every survey so you can see and handle the profile, hardware and finish before deciding. We will also give you the performance details for the specific frame and glass combination we are quoting, rather than generic figures, so you know exactly what you are buying.
Is it worth replacing old UPVC windows?
If your windows have misted units, failing hinges, draughts or discoloured frames, replacement is often worthwhile. Many homes in Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Maidstone have UPVC fitted 20 or 30 years ago. Sometimes a repair or new glass unit is enough, and we will tell you if that is the case rather than recommending full replacement.
How much do UPVC windows cost in Kent?
The price depends on the number of windows, their sizes and styles, colours, glass and access to your home. Our UPVC windows start from £400, but a free survey is the only way to get an accurate price. We provide a written, itemised quote afterwards, with no obligation to go ahead.
Can I mix UPVC windows with aluminium doors?
Yes, and many customers do. UPVC windows can keep costs down across the house, while an aluminium sliding or bifold door gives slim frames and wide glass on the garden side. We can match or complement colours so the two materials look considered together. We will show you combinations at the survey.
