Farnborough sits just over the Surrey border in north-east Hampshire, about thirteen miles from our Fifield workshop as the crow flies. Although our Surrey pages are where most people find us, Farnborough is a regular stop for our team. We make our aluminium windows and doors in Fifield, near Windsor, and our own installers drive down for each survey and fit. We do not keep a local office here, and we would rather be clear about that from the start.

Farnborough’s homes: commuters, officers and engineers
Farnborough grew in waves. The railway in the 1830s drew London commuters and turned a small village into a residential suburb. The army’s arrival nearby in the 1850s brought speculative housing for officers, and from 1905 ballooning at Laffan’s Plain, later the Royal Aircraft Establishment, brought engineers, technicians and aerospace firms. After the Second World War the town expanded fast, with new estates, business parks and light industry.
So a single afternoon of surveys can take in a Victorian villa on a tree-lined avenue, a 1930s semi near Farnborough Street, and a 1970s or 1980s estate house in Cove. Window choices follow from that.
Conservation areas handled by Rushmoor Borough Council
Planning in Farnborough is handled by Rushmoor Borough Council, which also covers Aldershot. Rushmoor has nine conservation areas, and several are in Farnborough:
- South Farnborough, designated in 1987, with wide, tree-lined avenues laid out from the 1860s for army officers.
- Farnborough Street, designated in 2025, covering the old village core and the early twentieth-century commuter housing that spread from the crossroads.
- Farnborough Hill, also designated in 2025, around the 1863 mansion later enlarged by Empress Eugénie.
- St Michael’s Abbey.
Rushmoor says Article 4 directions remove some permitted development rights in some of its conservation areas. Because two Farnborough areas are new, many owners may not yet realise they are inside one. Check with Rushmoor Borough Council before changing window or door styles on a front elevation, and we will provide the drawings and product details they may ask for.
Areas we cover around Farnborough
- Cove, west of the town centre, with a large share of post-war family housing.
- North Camp and South Farnborough, where the older officers’ villas sit.
- Farnborough Street and the streets around the North station.
- Fleet, a few miles west in Hart district, where planning sits with Hart District Council.
We also travel into nearby Surrey for homes in Frimley and Camberley, which have their own Camberley page.
Which windows and doors suit which Farnborough homes
Officers’ villas in South Farnborough. These generous Victorian houses usually suit slim, well-proportioned frames. The Reynaers SlimLine 68 is our core aluminium window, and we also offer Cortizo and Alunet systems. In a conservation area, the planners’ view of material and pattern matters, so we check that first.
Inter-war and post-war semis. Many have been extended at the back. A run of Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors brings in light with slim meeting stiles, and Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifolds suit families who want the full opening in summer.
Estate homes in Cove and rentals. UPVC windows (Advance 70) are a cost-effective way to replace tired double glazing, and pair well with a composite front door.
Our Surrey guides compare materials in more depth: aluminium windows in Surrey, UPVC windows in Surrey and the Surrey windows and doors hub, which also covers the Hampshire border towns.
From survey to fitting day
One of our surveyors comes from Fifield, measures each opening and checks the structure around it. Farnborough Airport is close to parts of the town, so if aircraft noise bothers you, mention it and we will talk through glass options. Your written quote names the system, glass and colour, with prices from £400.
Once you approve the design, aluminium frames go into production in our Fifield workshop; the current lead time is from 10 days. Our installers then travel down, remove the old units, fit and seal the new ones and clear the site. Every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Farnborough even though it is in Hampshire?
Yes. Farnborough is about thirteen miles from our Fifield workshop in a straight line and is part of the area we cover regularly, along with Cove, North Camp and Fleet. Our own surveyors and installers travel from Fifield for each visit. We do not have a Farnborough office, but distance is not a barrier to a careful survey and fit.
Is my Farnborough house in a conservation area?
It might be. Rushmoor designated Farnborough Street and Farnborough Hill as conservation areas in 2025, joining South Farnborough and St Michael’s Abbey. Some Rushmoor conservation areas also have Article 4 directions. The quickest way to be sure is to check your address with Rushmoor Borough Council before you order new windows or doors.
Can new windows help with aircraft noise near Farnborough Airport?
Well-fitted modern windows and good seals usually make a noticeable difference to outside noise. Glass makeup matters most, so we discuss options such as different pane thicknesses at survey. We will not promise a specific reduction for your home, but we will explain what each option is designed to do and quote clearly for it.
What is the difference between aluminium and UPVC windows?
Aluminium is strong, so frames can be slimmer and carry larger panes, and it comes in a wide colour range. UPVC usually costs less and suits many estate homes and rentals. On a period villa, slim aluminium often looks more appropriate. We will show you both at survey and help you weigh appearance, budget and how long you plan to stay.
How long does a typical installation take?
It depends on how many windows and doors you are replacing and whether any structural work is needed. Most homes are fitted in a matter of days rather than weeks once the frames are ready. Aluminium frames are made in our Fifield workshop first, and we will confirm the current lead time and the fitting schedule in your quotation.
