Double Glazing in Farnham: Aluminium & UPVC Windows and Doors

Farnham is about nineteen miles south-west of our Fifield workshop as the crow flies, at the western edge of Surrey. It is further than our Camberley or Woking work, so we plan Farnham surveys and installations carefully, but it is firmly within the area our own team covers. We make the aluminium windows and doors in Fifield, near Windsor, and our installers bring them down and fit them. We do not have a Farnham office.

Farnham’s Georgian centre, and what surrounds it

Farnham is known for its Georgian streets. When hop growing made the town prosperous in the eighteenth century, much of the centre was rebuilt in red brick. Castle Street, wide and closed at its top by Farnham Castle, is the heart of that reputation, and West Street has fine Georgian houses including the Grade I listed Willmer House. Waverley’s own conservation area appraisal points out that the town is more varied than its reputation, with Victorian, Arts and Crafts and later buildings, and Georgian fronts added to older timber-framed houses.

Beyond the centre, Farnham’s suburbs bring Victorian and Edwardian villas, inter-war houses, post-war estates and newer developments, while villages to the south sit in open heath and farmland.

The Farnham conservation area and Waverley Borough Council

Planning in Farnham is handled by Waverley Borough Council, which adopted its Farnham Conservation Area appraisal in 2005. On windows, the appraisal is direct: smaller-paned designs suit eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century buildings such as those in Castle Street, frames and glazing bars should be painted timber, and large undivided areas of glass should be avoided. It also proposed an Article 4 Direction covering a number of locally listed terraced buildings, which would bring windows and doors under planning control.

So if you own a period house in central Farnham, aluminium or UPVC may not be acceptable at the front. Check with Waverley Borough Council before ordering anything. Rear elevations, extensions and homes outside the conservation area often give more freedom, and we will help you find out where you stand.

Surrey’s borough councils are being replaced. From 1 April 2027, Waverley becomes part of the new West Surrey unitary council, so check which authority is responsible on the date you apply.

Products for Farnham’s housing

Georgian and listed buildings. These usually call for timber and specialist joinery, which is outside what we fabricate. We will tell you that honestly rather than push a product that a conservation officer is likely to refuse.

Victorian, Edwardian and Arts and Crafts houses outside the core. A slim aluminium casement such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68, our core range, can carry glazing bars and a heritage colour. Reynaers offers it in Ferro and Classic design variants with concealed hinges, according to its SlimLine 68 product page. Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows are also available.

Garden rooms and rear extensions. Larger plots around Farnham often suit wide glazing on the garden side. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors keep the view open year round, and bifolds from Smart Visofold or Cortizo open the room fully in good weather.

Post-war and newer homes. UPVC windows (Advance 70) and a composite front door make a cost-effective upgrade.

Survey and installation in Farnham

We start with a visit from our Fifield team to measure, check the structure around each opening and talk about any planning constraints. Your written quotation sets out the system, glass and finish, with prices from £400.

Frames are made in our Fifield workshop with a current lead time starting from 10 days. Because Farnham is a longer run for us, we schedule fitting days to keep work on site continuous. Our installers remove the old frames, fit and seal the new ones and clear up. Every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit aluminium windows in the Farnham conservation area?

Sometimes, but not always. Waverley’s Farnham appraisal favours painted timber frames and small panes on eighteenth and early nineteenth-century buildings, and discourages large undivided glass. Rear elevations and houses outside the core may allow more choice. Check with Waverley Borough Council, or West Surrey council from 1 April 2027, before you order.

Do you make timber sash windows for Georgian houses?

No. We fabricate aluminium windows and doors in our own workshop and also supply UPVC and composite products. If your listed or Georgian property needs timber, we will say so plainly rather than offer something unlikely to get approval. We are happy to advise on extensions or rear elevations where aluminium may be acceptable.

Do you cover the villages around Farnham?

Yes. We regularly survey and fit in Wrecclesham, Badshot Lea, Frensham, Tilford, Rowledge, Hale and the Bourne. Farnham is about nineteen miles from our Fifield workshop in a straight line, and our own team travels from there. We plan visits to make the most of each trip and keep fitting days running smoothly.

What are the benefits of Reynaers SlimLine 68 windows?

SlimLine 68 is our core aluminium range. Reynaers designed it for slim sightlines, with concealed hinges and drainage, and offers Ferro and Classic design variants that suit period-style homes as well as modern ones. Reynaers lists PAS 24 and Secured by Design ratings. We confirm the exact options for your openings at survey.

How much do new windows cost in Farnham?

Cost depends on the number and size of openings, the system, glass and colour, and any structural work. Aluminium generally costs more than UPVC. After a free survey we provide a written quotation that names every product, so you can compare like for like with other quotes.
