For double glazing in Esher, Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fits them with its own team. We also supply UPVC windows and doors, composite front doors and conservatories. Esher is roughly 25 miles from us by road, usually around 40 minutes via the M25 and A3, so the town sits comfortably inside our regular working area.

Esher’s homes and what they ask of new glazing
Esher is a town of large houses. Around half the homes in the Esher ward are detached, many standing in long gardens off the Portsmouth Road, around West End and towards the edges of Esher Commons. These houses tend to have big openings to the garden, and that is where slim aluminium earns its place: wide sliding doors, bifolds and broad casements that let in more light than a chunky frame.
The town is not all mansions, though. About a fifth of homes are flats, from conversions of older villas to newer blocks near the High Street. If you live in a flat, there are no householder permitted development rights, so check your lease and speak to the freeholder or managing agent before changing windows; you may also need consent from the council.
The town grew as a coaching stop on the London to Portsmouth road, and the old route, bypassed in the 1970s, is now the A307 High Street. The A3 forms Esher’s southern edge, buffered by Esher Commons, while Sandown Park racecourse, opened in 1875, sits beside the station. Homes close to these roads often want better sealing against noise as well as heat loss, and our surveyor can talk through glass options on site.
Around Hinchley Wood and parts of Claygate the picture changes to inter-war and post-war semis and detached family homes, where a straight swap from tired UPVC to new UPVC or aluminium is the usual job.
Conservation areas and the planning authority
Esher’s historic core along the High Street is a conservation area, first designated in 1973 and extended since. It takes in the Grade I listed Church of St George and a run of listed buildings near the old coaching route. Nearby Elmbridge conservation areas include West End, Weston Green, Claygate Village, the Claygate Foley Estate and Hersham Village.
Planning is currently handled by Elmbridge Borough Council. Under Surrey’s reorganisation, Elmbridge joins the new East Surrey unitary council from 1 April 2027. If your home is in a conservation area or is listed, check with the council before ordering, and see our guide to planning permission for replacement windows. We do not make timber windows, so where a timber-only rule applies we will tell you plainly rather than guess.
Which products suit which Esher homes
- Large detached houses: aluminium windows such as Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement with a slender sightline, plus Cortizo and Alunet ranges.
- Garden rooms and rear extensions: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors where you want the whole opening clear.
- Family semis in Hinchley Wood and Claygate: UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system, available in woodgrain finishes for a softer look.
- Front entrances: composite doors in colours that suit brick and render.
- More living space: conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns.
Villages and neighbourhoods we cover from Esher
Alongside Esher itself we regularly quote in Claygate, Hinchley Wood, Weston Green, Long Ditton, Hersham and Oxshott. If you are a little further towards the river, see our pages for Molesey and Walton-on-Thames, or Cobham to the south-west. Our Surrey windows and doors page covers the wider county.
Costs, lead times and guarantee
Aluminium windows start from £400, and lead times start from 10 days because we fabricate in our own workshop rather than waiting on an outside factory. Every installation carries a 10-year guarantee. For a clearer idea of how size, glass and finish affect the figure, read our double glazing cost guide. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission to replace windows in Esher's conservation area?
Often not for a like-for-like swap on a house, but conservation areas and listed buildings can carry extra controls, and flats never have householder permitted development rights. Esher's High Street area is a designated conservation area, so check with Elmbridge Borough Council, or the East Surrey council from April 2027, before you order anything.
Are slim aluminium windows suitable for large Esher houses?
Yes. Big detached houses often have wide openings and long garden elevations, which is where slim aluminium frames work well. Reynaers SlimLine 68 is an outward-opening casement with a narrow profile, and we also offer Cortizo and Alunet systems. We fabricate them ourselves in Fifield and fit them with our own team.
How far is Inspired Glazing from Esher?
Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor. Esher is roughly 25 miles away by road, typically around 40 minutes via the M25 and A3 depending on traffic. We have no Esher showroom; our surveyor and fitting team travel over from Fifield for every survey and installation.
Can you fit double glazing in an Esher flat?
We can, but you will usually need the freeholder's or managing agent's permission first, as flats have no householder permitted development rights and leases often control window style. Planning consent may also be needed. Once you have approval, we survey, make the frames in our Fifield workshop and fit them ourselves.
How quickly can new windows be fitted in Esher?
Lead times start from 10 days because we make aluminium frames in our own workshop. Bigger orders, special colours or door sets can take longer, and we confirm a realistic date in your written quote. Each installation comes with a 10-year guarantee, and aluminium windows start from £400.
