For double glazing in Horley, Inspired Glazing supplies and fits aluminium windows and doors that we fabricate ourselves, along with UPVC windows, composite front doors and conservatories. We are based at Fifield, near Windsor, not in Horley: the trip is roughly 40 miles by road, usually around 50 minutes round the M25 and down the M23, and our own fitters make that journey for every survey and installation.

Living next door to Gatwick
Few towns in the South East sit as close to a major runway as Horley does. Gatwick lies just south-west of the town centre, and for many households the real question is not what colour the frames should be but how much aircraft noise the new glass will keep out. Standard double glazing already helps, but laminated acoustic glass and unequal pane thicknesses make a noticeable further difference on bedrooms that face the flight path. We can specify those units in both our aluminium and UPVC windows, and we will tell you plainly at survey which rooms are worth the extra.
The other thing a Horley survey checks is the ground. Tributaries of the River Mole, including the Burstow Stream and the Gatwick Stream, run through the town, and the Environment Agency operates flood warning areas covering parts of east, north and south-west Horley. That does not change which windows you can have, but it does matter for the threshold detail on ground-floor patio and back doors, where we pay close attention to drainage and sill heights.
What Horley homes are made of
Horley was a scattering of hamlets until the London to Brighton railway opened a station here in 1841. Growth was slow for the next century, leaving a modest core of Victorian and Edwardian houses around the station and along roads such as Massetts Road. After 1950 the population roughly doubled as Horley became a commuter town, bringing large post-war estates. The Horley Master Plan approved in 2005 then allowed for almost 2,600 new homes, delivered in new neighbourhoods such as Westvale Park to the north-west. That spread means we see everything from original 1900s bays to builder-fitted UPVC from the 1990s that is starting to mist and stiffen.
- Edwardian and Victorian villas: our Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium windows are outward-opening casements with slim frames that keep the proportions of older openings. We also make Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows.
- Post-war semis and estate houses: UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a cost-effective upgrade, available in white, greys and woodgrain foils.
- Newer homes on the edges of town: owners of recent houses often keep the windows and change the back of the house instead, with Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifolds or Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors.
- Front entrances: composite doors give a solid, low-maintenance front door. We do not make timber doors; woodgrain composite is the timber-look option.
Garden rooms are popular on the larger post-war plots, and we build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns as well as windows.
Planning and the Massetts Road conservation area
Planning in Horley is handled by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, which has designated a conservation area at Massetts Road. If your house is in it, or is listed, check with Reigate and Banstead before ordering replacement windows. Surrey is being reorganised, and from 1 April 2027 the borough becomes part of the new East Surrey unitary council, so the authority’s name on your paperwork may change. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so window changes in a flat can need consent and the freeholder’s agreement. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows sets out the usual position.
Areas around Horley we cover
As well as the town itself, we regularly travel to Langshott, Westvale Park, Salfords, Smallfield, Hookwood and Charlwood. Further south we cover Horsham and Haywards Heath, and to the north-east Oxted. Our Surrey windows and doors page covers the wider county.
From survey to fitting
A surveyor visits, measures every opening, and talks through glass specification, colours and hardware. You then get a written quote; aluminium windows start from £400, and our double glazing cost guide explains what pushes a price up or down. Aluminium frames are made in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days, then our own team drives over, removes the old frames, fits and seals the new ones, and clears up. Every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions
Will new double glazing reduce Gatwick aircraft noise in Horley?
It will help, and acoustic glazing helps more. Laminated acoustic glass and panes of different thicknesses cut more noise than a standard sealed unit, especially in bedrooms under the flight path. We can fit acoustic units in aluminium or UPVC frames, and at survey we will suggest which rooms gain most so you are not paying for it everywhere.
Do I need planning permission for new windows in Horley?
For most houses, like-for-like replacement windows fall under permitted development. It is different if your home is listed, inside the Massetts Road conservation area, or a flat, because flats have no householder permitted development rights. In those cases check with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, which becomes part of East Surrey Council from April 2027.
How far do you travel to reach Horley?
Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 40 miles from Horley by road. The drive usually takes around 50 minutes via the M25 and M23. We do not have a local office or showroom, so the surveyor and fitting team come from Fifield, and we book visits so the whole job is done in as few trips as possible.
Is UPVC or aluminium better for a post-war house in Horley?
Both work well. UPVC in the Selecta Advance 70 system is usually the most cost-effective choice for a 1950s to 1990s house and comes in woodgrain finishes. Aluminium, such as Reynaers SlimLine 68, costs more but gives slimmer frames and stronger colours, and suits owners who want a more modern look or are adding large glazed doors.
My home is near the Burstow Stream. Does that affect new patio doors?
It can affect how they are detailed. Where a garden is low-lying or prone to standing water, we pay particular attention to the threshold height, drainage and sealing at the base of sliding or bifold doors. It is worth mentioning any past flooding at survey so we can plan the opening properly before the doors are made.
