Two quite different halves of town
The M3 begins at Sunbury Cross and splits the town in two, and the housing on either side is noticeably different.
Lower Sunbury, the old village between the motorway and the Thames, has Georgian and early Victorian buildings along Thames Street, much of it within the Lower Sunbury conservation area. Most of the surrounding homes date from the 1930s to the 1960s: detached and semi-detached houses on verge-lined or tree-lined roads, some with large gardens, and a feel closer to Shepperton or Hampton than to a busy town.
Sunbury Common, north of the M3 around Sunbury Cross, is more urban, with a high share of terraced homes and flats, including four tower blocks, alongside semis and business parks between the A316 and the A308.
Planning checks in Spelthorne
Spelthorne Borough Council handles planning for Sunbury, and the Lower Sunbury conservation area covers the historic riverside. Upper Halliford and Lower Halliford, just to the west, have their own conservation areas. If you live in one of these, in a listed building or in a flat (flats have no householder permitted development rights), check with Spelthorne Borough Council before changing the appearance of your windows. The borough will move into the new West Surrey Council from 1 April 2027. Read our planning permission guide for the general picture.
Practical points for Sunbury homes
- Motorway and road noise: homes near the M3, the A316 and Sunbury Cross benefit from acoustic laminated glass and well-sealed frames.
- Heathrow: the airport is about five miles away, so some streets also hear aircraft. The same acoustic options help.
- The river: Lower Sunbury sits on the Thames floodplain. Ask us about door thresholds and corrosion-resistant aluminium if you are close to the water, and check the Environment Agency flood map for your address.
- Reservoirs and open land: homes facing Kempton Park or the Queen Mary Reservoir can be quite exposed to wind, so good seals and sturdy hardware matter.
Products that fit the Sunbury mix
A 1950s semi in Lower Sunbury often suits UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system, in white or a woodgrain finish. For a crisper, slimmer look, aluminium windows such as Reynaers SlimLine 68 (an outward-opening casement), Cortizo or Alunet give more glass and less frame.
Detached riverside houses with long gardens are ideal for Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, or for Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors that open a whole wall onto the garden. For terraces and smaller houses in Sunbury Common, efficient UPVC windows and a secure composite front door are usually the best value.
Where you want more space, we build conservatories, orangeries and porches, and fit roof lanterns. We also replace fascias, soffits and guttering, and fit garage doors, blinds and shutters. We do not make timber windows; woodgrain UPVC, foiled aluminium and composite doors give a timber look without repainting.
Price and timing
Our aluminium windows start from £400, lead times start from 10 days, and every installation comes with a 10-year guarantee. Our guide to double glazing costs explains how size, glass and finish affect a quote.
What happens after you call
We arrange a free survey and a surveyor drives over from Fifield. They measure every opening, check access and parking (worth knowing on narrow Lower Sunbury roads), and go through glass, colour and hardware options. You get a written quote with no pressure. When you go ahead, the frames are made in our workshop and our own fitters install them.
We also work in Charlton, Upper Halliford, Shepperton, Hampton and Feltham. For nearby towns, see Ashford (Surrey), Walton-on-Thames and Molesey, or the Surrey windows and doors overview.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need permission for new windows in Lower Sunbury?
If your home is inside the Lower Sunbury conservation area, is listed, or is a flat, check with Spelthorne Borough Council before changing the look of your windows. Spelthorne joins West Surrey Council from April 2027. Most houses outside those categories can replace windows with a similar appearance without planning permission.
Will new double glazing reduce M3 and A316 noise?
Yes, noticeably, if your current windows are old or poorly sealed. Most noise leaks through gaps and tired seals. For homes very close to Sunbury Cross or the motorway, acoustic laminated glass with panes of different thicknesses gives an extra reduction. We can advise which rooms are worth upgrading.
How far is Sunbury from your workshop?
Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor. Sunbury-on-Thames is roughly 17 miles away by road, typically around 30 minutes via the M25 and M3. Our surveyor and installers travel from Fifield for every job; we do not have a separate local showroom.
Which doors suit a long garden in Lower Sunbury?
Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors give large glass panels and slim frames, so they keep the view open even when closed. Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds fold right back for summer. Which is better depends on how you use the garden, the width of the opening and your budget.
What guarantee do your Sunbury installations come with?
Every installation we carry out comes with a 10-year guarantee. Because we make our aluminium frames ourselves at Fifield and fit them with our own team, there is one company responsible from survey to completion. Your written quote sets out exactly what is included.
