Double glazing in Westminster is rarely a simple swap, and we plan for that from the first visit. Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and installs them with its own fitters. We also supply UPVC windows, composite doors and secondary glazing. Our team drives in from Fifield, roughly 28 miles and usually an hour or more each way depending on traffic, so we set Westminster survey and fitting dates well ahead.

What Westminster homes are actually like
Most of the city’s housing is not detached or semi-detached. In Maida Vale, at the northern end of the city, the streets are lined almost entirely with Victorian and Edwardian mansion blocks. Pimlico is a grid of white stucco terraces laid out by Thomas Cubitt after 1825 for Lord Grosvenor, with the largest houses on St George’s Drive and Belgrave Road. Pimlico also has Dolphin Square, built in 1935–37 and billed as the largest self-contained block of flats in Europe, and the Churchill Gardens estate, designed by Powell and Moya and built between 1946 and 1962.
In the north-west, the Queen’s Park Estate was built from 1875 by the Artizans, Labourers and General Dwellings Company, with two- and three-storey Victorian terraces in a tight, consistent layout. Its residents have the Queen’s Park Community Council, which in 2014 became the first parish council created in London under 2007 legislation. Add Marylebone, Bayswater, Paddington, St John’s Wood and Mayfair, and you have a city of terraces, mews houses and flats.
Planning: 56 conservation areas, many listed buildings
Westminster City Council is the planning authority, and it has 56 conservation areas. Pimlico alone has its own conservation area, designated in 1968, with Churchill Gardens, Lillington and Longmoore Gardens, and Dolphin Square each designated separately. The council publishes audits and guidance for each area, plus a guide to development in conservation areas.
Two points come up on almost every Westminster enquiry. First, flats have no householder permitted development rights, so new windows in a flat will normally need planning permission. Second, in a mansion block the windows are often part of the building under the lease, so you will need the freeholder’s or managing agent’s consent, and some blocks set a standard pattern for all flats. Check with Westminster City Council and your freeholder before ordering. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows sets out the questions to ask.
Our options for Westminster properties
Secondary glazing for listed and stucco houses
We do not make timber windows. For listed houses, or where the council expects original timber sashes to stay, our secondary glazing sits inside the existing window to cut draughts and traffic noise, with the original kept untouched outside.
Slim aluminium for mews houses and modern flats
Where replacement is allowed, our aluminium windows give narrow frames. The core range is the outward-opening Reynaers SlimLine 68 casement, with Cortizo and Alunet as alternatives. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors and Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors suit roof terraces and rear extensions.
UPVC and composite for estates and terraced streets
Our UPVC windows and doors use the Selecta Advance 70 system, and a composite door gives a timber look without timber upkeep. Garden owners can also ask about conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns, and we supply blinds and shutters.
Neighbourhoods we travel to
We cover Pimlico, Maida Vale, Little Venice, Queen’s Park, St John’s Wood, Marylebone, Bayswater, Paddington, Westbourne and Mayfair. Neighbouring boroughs have their own pages: Kensington and Chelsea, Camden and Lambeth.

Frequently asked questions
Can I replace the windows in my Maida Vale mansion flat?
Possibly, but two consents usually come first. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so Westminster City Council will normally need a planning application, and your freeholder or managing agent will need to approve the design, sometimes to a standard pattern for the block. We can survey and give you specifications to support both.
What is the best option for a listed house in Pimlico?
Where original timber sashes must stay, secondary glazing is usually the practical choice. It fits inside the existing window, cuts draughts and traffic noise, and leaves the outside unchanged. We do not make timber windows. Check with Westminster City Council about listed building consent before any work, including internal changes.
Do you have a showroom in central London?
No. Our only base is our workshop at Fifield, near Windsor. Instead, the surveyor brings frame colour, glass and hardware samples to your home. Westminster is roughly 28 miles from Fifield by road, usually an hour or more each way, so we book survey and fitting dates in advance.
Can you fit sliding doors onto a Westminster roof terrace?
Often, yes. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors and our Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifolds suit roof terraces and rear extensions. Access, lifting and building management rules affect how they are delivered, so we check these at survey. Planning permission and freeholder consent may be needed, especially for flats or in conservation areas.
How long does a Westminster window job take?
Lead times for aluminium windows start from 10 days after the order and any consents are confirmed. In Westminster, getting planning permission or freeholder approval is often the longest step. Fitting usually takes a day or more depending on the number of openings, and our own installers remove the old frames.
