Four villages that became one town

Sandhurst is best known for the Royal Military Academy, but the town is really four places joined together. From west to east there is Little Sandhurst, with its 13th-century St Michael’s Church; central Sandhurst; and College Town by the academy, with Owlsmoor to the north-east. The railway arrived in 1849, and work at the academy, Broadmoor Hospital and Wellington College brought more people. Then, from the late 1950s to the 1980s, large housing estates filled the gaps and created the town we know now.

That history shows in the houses. There are Victorian and early twentieth-century cottages and terraces along the older roads, but most Sandhurst homes date from the post-war decades: semis, detached houses and townhouses on estates in Owlsmoor, College Town and Little Sandhurst. Many still have frames from the 1980s or 1990s that have lost their seals, misted between the panes or stiffened at the hinges.

Planning in Sandhurst

Sandhurst has its own town council, but planning decisions sit with Bracknell Forest Council. None of Bracknell Forest’s six conservation areas is in Sandhurst; the nearest is in Crowthorne. That does not mean every change is automatic. Listed buildings still need consent, some estates have conditions on their original planning permission, and flats have no householder permitted development rights, so they can need permission and the freeholder’s agreement. Check with Bracknell Forest Council if any of these apply. Our replacement windows planning guide sets out the usual cases.

On the county edge

The River Blackwater forms Sandhurst’s southern boundary, with Camberley across the Surrey border and Yateley and Blackwater over in Hampshire. Some homes on the lower ground near the river may sit within flood risk areas; if yours does, tell us at survey so we can discuss thresholds on new doors. We cover College Town, Owlsmoor, Little Sandhurst and Crowthorne, and cross into Yateley and Blackwater too. See also our pages on double glazing in Crowthorne, Yateley and Fleet, or the wider Berkshire page.

Homes for forces families and long-term residents alike

With the academy on its doorstep, Sandhurst has a steady turnover of owners alongside families who have lived here for decades. If you are planning to sell, new windows and a composite front door are among the most visible improvements to a house. If you are staying, the gains are warmer rooms, fewer draughts and frames that no longer need constant attention, and we will talk through locks and glass options for each door at survey.

What happens after you get in touch

We arrange a free survey, often within days given how close we are, and measure every window and door. You receive a fixed written quote. Aluminium windows start from Β£400, and our double glazing cost guide explains how sizes, styles and finishes affect the total. Aluminium frames are fabricated in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days. On the day, our own fitters remove the old frames, install and seal the new ones and clear away the waste. Everything carries a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission to replace windows in Sandhurst?

For most houses, like-for-like replacements fall under permitted development, and Sandhurst has no conservation area. Listed buildings, flats and homes with planning conditions are exceptions; flats have no householder permitted development rights at all. If any of these apply, check with Bracknell Forest Council before you order.

How far are you from Sandhurst?

Our only workshop and office are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 16 miles from Sandhurst by road, around half an hour's drive. Our surveyor and fitters travel over from there. Being nearby means we can usually offer survey times quickly and return easily if anything needs attention.

What is the best replacement for misted 1980s windows in Owlsmoor?

Misting between the panes means the sealed unit has failed. If the frames are also tired, full replacement makes sense: UPVC in the Selecta Advance 70 system for value, or Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium for slimmer frames. We look at the frames at survey and tell you honestly whether replacement is worthwhile.

Do you work in Yateley and Camberley as well as Sandhurst?

Yes. Sandhurst sits on the borders of Hampshire and Surrey, and we regularly cross the Blackwater into Yateley and Blackwater, as well as covering College Town, Owlsmoor, Little Sandhurst and Crowthorne. Planning on the other side of the river is handled by different councils, which we can point you to.

How soon can you fit new windows in Sandhurst?

Aluminium frames are fabricated in our own Fifield workshop, with lead times from 10 days after you order. The number of fitting days depends on how many windows and doors you are replacing, and we confirm it with your written quote. Because Sandhurst is only around half an hour away, scheduling is usually straightforward.
