If you are looking for double glazing in Christchurch, Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fits them with its own installers. We also supply UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We should be clear from the start: we have no office or showroom in Dorset. Christchurch is roughly 85 miles from Fifield by road, typically around an hour and three-quarters, so every survey and installation is booked in advance around that journey.

A Saxon town between two rivers
Christchurch sits between the Avon and the Stour where both rivers run into Christchurch Harbour. The old centre still follows its Saxon street layout, overlooked by the Grade I listed priory, the castle ruins and Place Mill by the Town Quay. Around that core the town grew outwards in stages. Portfield, a common north of the centre, was enclosed in 1873 and built over, and a large housing estate went up east of the centre in the 1950s. To the east, Highcliffe grew from a hamlet of thatched cottages once Victorian visitors discovered its clifftop, and it is still watched over by the Grade I listed Highcliffe Castle. Mudeford and Somerford fill the ground towards the harbour, while Burton sits on the edge of the green belt, with the New Forest National Park beyond.
That spread means we see everything from listed and conservation-area cottages near the priory to 20th-century houses and bungalows whose frames are ready for replacement.
Harbour air and riverside ground
Homes near the harbour, Stanpit Marsh, Mudeford Spit and the Highcliffe cliffs take more wind and salt than a house inland. At survey we look at which elevations face the water and talk through frame finishes, hardware and drainage details that cope with that exposure. Much of the low ground by the two rivers is also worth checking for flood risk, which the Environment Agency’s flood map will show for your address; it can affect where door thresholds sit and how we detail the drainage beneath new doors.
Bournemouth Airport at Hurn lies only a few miles north-west of the town centre. If aircraft noise or traffic on the A35 and A338 bothers you, we can discuss glass options that help reduce it.
Products that suit Christchurch homes
- Bungalows and wide-fronted houses. Our aluminium windows, led by the outward-opening Reynaers SlimLine 68 casement, keep sightlines slim on wide picture windows. Cortizo and Alunet ranges give alternative price points.
- Estate houses from the 1950s onwards. UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a cost-effective like-for-like swap.
- Front doors. A composite door is our timber-look option. We do not make timber windows or doors.
- Garden and harbour views. Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors.
- Extra room. Conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns, plus secondary glazing, fascias and guttering.
Planning with BCP Council
Since 2019 planning in Christchurch has been handled by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council. The former borough has eleven conservation areas, including Christchurch Central, Mudeford Quay, Stanpit and Fisherman’s Bank, Burton, Winkton and Purewell. If your home is in one of these, is listed, or is a flat, check with BCP Council before you order. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, and you will normally need the freeholder’s consent too. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains the basics.
How we handle a job 85 miles from base
Because the team travels down from Fifield, we plan Christchurch work carefully:
- Survey. We arrange a date that suits you and measure every opening in one visit, bringing samples with us.
- Quote. Aluminium windows start from Β£400. Our double glazing cost guide explains what drives the total.
- Fabrication. Frames are made in our Fifield workshop, with lead times from 10 days.
- Fitting. Installation days are scheduled so the crew can arrive early and finish each opening properly before leaving.
Our installations come with a 10-year guarantee. We hold Constructionline Silver and are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a showroom in Christchurch or Dorset?
No. Our only premises are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor, where we make and store our aluminium frames. Christchurch is roughly 85 miles away by road, around an hour and three-quarters, so we bring frame samples, colour charts and glass options to your home at the survey and plan the visit in advance.
My house overlooks Christchurch Harbour. Does that change what I should buy?
It can. Homes facing the harbour, Mudeford or the Highcliffe cliffs take more wind-driven rain and salt than those inland. At survey we check which elevations are exposed and talk through finishes, hardware and drainage details suited to a coastal setting, so you can weigh maintenance and appearance before you choose a product.
Do I need permission to replace windows in Christchurch Central conservation area?
It depends on the property. Houses in conservation areas often keep permitted development rights for like-for-like windows, but listed buildings, flats and homes with extra restrictions need consent. BCP Council is the planning authority, so check with BCP Council before ordering. We will flag anything we spot at survey.
How long does it take from survey to installation?
Our aluminium frames are made in our own Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days once the order and final measurements are confirmed. For Christchurch we then book the installation date around the journey, so allow a little extra time to agree a slot that suits both you and our fitting team.
Can you make timber windows for an older Christchurch cottage?
No, we do not make timber windows or doors. For a traditional look we offer woodgrain-finish UPVC, slim aluminium casements such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68, and composite front doors. If the cottage is listed, the council may insist on timber, so check with BCP Council first and we will say honestly if we are not the right fit.
