Double Glazing in Bournemouth: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Inspired Glazing provides double glazing in Bournemouth using aluminium windows and doors fabricated in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, alongside UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We do not have a branch on the south coast. Bournemouth is roughly 85 miles from Fifield by road and usually around an hour and three-quarters’ drive, so we plan surveys and installations well ahead and send the same team that measured your home to fit it.

From pine-lined villas to interwar suburbs

Bournemouth is a young town. Lewis Tregonwell founded it on empty heathland in 1810 and built villas to let to sea-bathing visitors, and pine trees were planted because their scent was thought good for the lungs. The railway arrived in 1870, and the population leapt from about 17,000 in 1880 to around 60,000 by 1900. That boom is why the centre is known for its Victorian architecture and why most of the borough’s 200-plus listed buildings are Victorian or Edwardian.

Boscombe, Southbourne, Pokesdown and Winton joined the town in 1901, with Kinson and Holdenhurst following in 1931, each developing its own character away from the seafront. Today Bournemouth is one of the most densely built places in the South West, so we work on flats and conversions as often as on houses.

Clifftops, chines and sea air

The seafront runs along sandy beaches backed by gravel and sandy clay cliffs, cut by chines such as Alum, Durley and Branksome. Homes on the East Cliff and West Cliff, or near the chines, take the brunt of onshore wind and salt. When we survey a coastal property we note which windows face the bay and recommend finishes, hardware and glazing that suit the exposure. Bournemouth Airport at Hurn is a few miles north, and if aircraft or main-road noise is a concern we can talk through acoustic glass.

Which windows and doors suit which Bournemouth homes

Victorian and Edwardian villas

Our aluminium windows are led by the Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement with a slim, crisp profile. We also fit Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows. We do not make timber or vertical sliding sash windows, so if a period home needs those, we will tell you.

Interwar semis and post-war houses

For houses in Kinson, Throop and the northern suburbs, UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a practical upgrade, available in woodgrain finishes.

Doors and garden openings

Choose a composite front door for a timber look without the upkeep, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors. Conservatories, orangeries, porches, roof lanterns and secondary glazing are available too.

Conservation areas and BCP Council

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has handled planning since April 2019. Bournemouth itself has around twenty conservation areas, including Boscombe Spa, Boscombe Manor, East Cliff, West Cliff and Poole Hill, Dean Park, Meyrick Park and Talbot Woods, The Saints, Southbourne Grove, Talbot Village and Westbourne. The council says minor works allowed without permission are more limited in these areas, so check with BCP Council before ordering if you live in one. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, and most leases also require the freeholder’s written consent. Read our planning guide for replacement windows for more detail.

One change worth knowing about: Bournemouth became a civil parish on 1 April 2026 and a new Bournemouth Town Council is being set up. That does not move planning decisions, which remain with BCP Council, so that is still where to send any application or question about your windows.

Frequently asked questions

Why use a company based near Windsor for windows in Bournemouth?

We make our aluminium frames ourselves in Fifield and fit them with our own team, rather than buying in and subcontracting. The trade-off is distance: Bournemouth is roughly 85 miles away, around an hour and three-quarters by road, so we plan surveys and fitting days in advance. You deal with the same people from survey to handover.

I own a flat in a converted Bournemouth villa. Can I replace my windows?

Usually, but you need the right consents. Flats do not have householder permitted development rights, so planning permission may be needed, and most leases require the freeholder's written agreement. If the building is in a conservation area such as East Cliff or West Cliff and Poole Hill, check with BCP Council before ordering.

Do you fit sash windows for Victorian houses in Bournemouth?

We do not make timber or vertical sliding sash windows. Our aluminium range centres on the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement, with Cortizo and Alunet options, plus UPVC casements in the Selecta Advance 70 system. If your home needs like-for-like sashes, we will say so at survey rather than sell you something unsuitable.

How much do aluminium windows cost in Bournemouth?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 per window. The final figure depends on sizes, opening styles, glass, colour and how many openings are in the job, and we price after a free survey. Our double glazing cost guide explains the main factors, and the quote you receive is written and itemised.

Will new windows help with sea wind on the East Cliff?

Well-fitted double glazing with good seals cuts draughts and keeps rain out better than tired old frames. On clifftop homes we look at which elevations face the sea and recommend finishes, hardware and drainage suited to that exposure. We will also explain how to keep frames clean, because salt deposits build up faster near the coast.
