For double glazing in Brighton, Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop and fits them with its own team, and also supplies UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We are not a Brighton firm. Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 70 miles away by road, usually around an hour and a half down the M23. Every survey and installation in Brighton is planned in advance around that drive.

A city of very different neighbourhoods
Brighton’s homes change character every few streets. Along the seafront and in Kemp Town and Regency Square are the Regency terraces and squares, with stucco fronts and bow windows. Climb the hills behind the station and you reach the tightly packed Victorian terraces of Hanover, Round Hill and the North Laine, many with canted bays. Around Preston Park are larger Edwardian and late Victorian houses. Then come the interwar and post-war suburbs: semis and bungalows in Patcham, Woodingdean and Withdean, and council-built estates such as Moulsecoomb and Whitehawk. Rottingdean and Ovingdean keep their village cores on the edge of the Downs.
Two things run through almost every Brighton survey. The first is the hills: steep streets, steps and narrow frontages mean we plan access and parking before the van arrives. The second is the sea air, which reaches well inland and makes good finishes, hardware and drainage worth paying for.
Matching the glazing to the home
Victorian terraces in Hanover and Round Hill
Where the rules allow it, our Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium windows give slim frames that suit small bay and front windows, and we also make Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows. We do not make timber windows, which matters for listed buildings and some conservation area streets.
Suburban semis and bungalows
In Patcham, Woodingdean and similar areas, UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a dependable, cost-effective upgrade, with woodgrain foils if you want them.
Garden doors and extensions
For kitchen extensions and garden rooms we fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors and Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, and we build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns.
Front doors
Composite doors stand up well to coastal weather and give a timber look without the maintenance.
Conservation areas, Article 4 and the National Park
Brighton and Hove City Council is the planning authority for most of the city, and it manages 34 conservation areas. In Brighton these include Kemp Town, East Cliff, Regency Square, Montpelier and Clifton Hill, North Laine, Round Hill, Queen’s Park, Preston Park, Valley Gardens, Patcham and Rottingdean. The council has made heritage Article 4 directions in several, including Round Hill, West Hill, Patcham and Rottingdean, under which replacement windows and doors can need planning permission. Parts of the city’s fringe, Stanmer among them, sit inside the South Downs National Park, where the South Downs National Park Authority handles planning. Brighton also has a great many flats, and flats have no householder permitted development rights, so permission and freeholder consent may both be needed. In all these cases, check with the council or the National Park Authority before ordering. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains the general rules.
Areas of the city we cover

Frequently asked questions
Do I need permission to replace windows in Round Hill, Brighton?
Possibly. Round Hill is a conservation area with a heritage Article 4 direction, which can bring replacement windows and doors under planning control even on houses. Check with Brighton and Hove City Council before ordering. If permission is needed, we can provide drawings and product specifications to support your application.
Can you work on steep Brighton streets with limited parking?
Yes, but we plan it carefully. At survey we check access, steps and where the van can stop, and we agree parking arrangements, including any permits or suspensions, before fitting day. That matters more in Brighton than most places we work, given the hills and the density of streets like Hanover.
Is aluminium or UPVC better near the Brighton seafront?
Both can work near the sea. Powder-coated aluminium is durable and keeps slimmer frames, while UPVC in the Selecta Advance 70 system is the lower-cost option. Whichever you choose, rinse salt off frames and hardware a few times a year. On listed seafront buildings, check with the council first, as timber may be required.
How long does a Brighton window job take from survey to fitting?
After the survey and your approval of the quote, aluminium frames are made in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days. A typical house is fitted in one to a few days. Because Brighton is about an hour and a half from Fifield, we schedule larger jobs on consecutive days.
Do you fit windows in Rottingdean and Patcham?
Yes. We cover Rottingdean, Patcham, Woodingdean and Ovingdean as well as central Brighton. Rottingdean and Patcham are conservation areas with heritage Article 4 directions, so check with Brighton and Hove City Council before replacing windows there. Elsewhere in those suburbs, most houses can usually replace windows under permitted development.
