If you are pricing double glazing in High Wycombe, Inspired Glazing can help. We make aluminium windows and doors in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fit them with our own team, and we also supply UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. The drive up to Wycombe is short: roughly 14 miles by road, usually around 25 to 30 minutes via the A404 and Handy Cross, so the same people who survey your home are the ones who come back to install.

Homes shaped by the chair trade
High Wycombe grew on furniture. Through the 19th century, factories making Windsor chairs spread across the valley floor, and an estimate from 1875 put output at 4,700 chairs a day. The compact Victorian terraces east and west of the town centre were built for those furniture workers, and many still have the original narrow window openings that make slim frames worthwhile.
Climb out of the Wye valley and the picture changes. A slum clearance scheme in 1932 moved residents up to new estates above the town, and large council estates from the 1930s, 1950s and 1960s now spread up the valley sides around Castlefield, Micklefield, Terriers and Totteridge. Amersham Hill has larger period houses on leafy roads, while recent building has leaned towards flats on brownfield sites.
Matching the product to the house
- Valley-floor terraces: the Reynaers SlimLine 68 is an outward-opening casement with slender sightlines, which helps when a sash-sized opening would be swamped by a chunky frame. See our aluminium windows and doors.
- Post-war semis and estate houses: UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a straightforward replacement, and Cortizo and Alunet aluminium give more choice of profile and price.
- Front doors: a composite door gives a timber look with no repainting. We do not make timber windows or doors, so woodgrain UPVC, aluminium or composite are our timber-effect options.
- Back gardens on sloping plots: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors keep a wide opening clear, and Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors fold right back.
We also build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns, and supply secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters.
Conservation areas and Buckinghamshire Council
Since 2020 planning in High Wycombe has been handled by one council, Buckinghamshire Council. The town currently has several conservation areas, and the 2011 appraisals cover areas including the Town Centre, Frogmoor, Easton Street, the Civic Area, The Rye, Marsh Green, Bassetbury, Saffron Platt and the Railway area, with separate appraisals for Amersham Hill and Priory Avenue. In spring 2026 the council consulted on merging the existing areas into a single High Wycombe Conservation Area with four boundary extensions, so if your house is near one of those streets, check with Buckinghamshire Council what currently applies before ordering.
West Wycombe is a special case: the whole village was handed to the National Trust in 1934, and West Wycombe Hill is part of the Chilterns National Landscape. Flats anywhere in the town have no householder permitted development rights, so window changes in a block may need planning consent as well as the freeholder’s agreement. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows sets out what to ask.
Noise from the M40 and the main roads
The M40 skirts the town, with Junction 3 serving Loudwater and east Wycombe and Junction 4 at Handy Cross, where the A404 heads south towards the M4. If your bedroom faces the motorway or the A40 through the valley, tell us at survey and we will talk through glass options suited to traffic noise rather than quoting a standard unit by default.
Where we work around Wycombe
Because we are so close, we cover the whole urban area, including Booker, Cressex, Daws Hill, Downley, Terriers, Totteridge and Wycombe Marsh, along with Hazlemere and Tylers Green to the north-east and West Wycombe to the west. Further along the Chilterns we also write about double glazing in Amersham and Chesham, and our Buckinghamshire windows and doors page covers the wider county.
From first visit to fitted frames
Our surveyor measures every opening, checks the reveals and sills, and brings colour and hardware samples to you. The written quote follows, with aluminium windows from £400 each; the double glazing cost guide explains what moves the total. Aluminium frames are then made at Fifield with lead times from 10 days, and our fitters remove the old windows, install and seal the new ones and clear the waste. Every installation carries a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions
How far is your workshop from High Wycombe?
Our workshop and office are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor. High Wycombe is roughly 14 miles away by road, usually around 25 to 30 minutes via the A404. That makes it one of the nearest towns we serve, so surveys can often be arranged at short notice and our own fitters travel from Fifield on installation day.
Do I need planning permission for new windows in a High Wycombe conservation area?
It depends on the property and the area. Buckinghamshire Council handles planning, and High Wycombe's conservation areas were under review in 2026, with a proposal to merge them and extend the boundaries. Listed buildings and flats need extra care. Check with Buckinghamshire Council before you order, and we will flag anything we notice at survey.
Can you replace windows in a Victorian terrace near the town centre?
Yes. The terraces built for furniture workers often have narrow openings, so slim aluminium frames such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68 keep more glass on show. We measure each opening individually at survey. If the house is in a conservation area, check with Buckinghamshire Council first, as the council may have a view on materials and style.
Will new double glazing help with noise from the M40?
Modern sealed units and well-fitted frames generally cut road noise compared with old, draughty windows. The M40 passes Loudwater and Handy Cross, and the A40 runs through the valley. Tell our surveyor which rooms face the road and we will discuss glass options for those openings rather than assuming one standard specification for the whole house.
How much does an aluminium window cost in High Wycombe?
Our aluminium windows start from £400 each. The final price depends on size, opening style, colour, glass and how many windows you replace at once. Because High Wycombe is close to our Fifield workshop, there is no long-distance travel to factor in. You get a written, itemised quote after a free survey at your home.
