We provide double glazing in Chesham for every era of house the town has, from cottages near the old High Street to interwar semis and later estates on the hillsides. Our aluminium windows and doors are made at our Fifield workshop, near Windsor, and fitted by our own team. Chesham is roughly 21 miles away by road, usually about 45 minutes’ drive, so we plan visits around that journey but cover the town regularly.

How Chesham’s housing came about
Chesham’s medieval and Georgian core runs along the High Street, Church Street and Germain Street, with timber framing, flint and red brick. The real growth started when the Metropolitan line reached the town in 1889. Local builder Jesse Mead developed Chesham Newtown with villas, terraces and semi-detached homes around Berkhampstead Road and Eskdale Avenue, and the first council houses went up on Brockhurst Road in 1914.
Between the wars, the Metro-land campaign brought London families out to new houses in the mock-Tudor “Met” style, and the Pond Park estate began in 1927. After 1945 came estates around Deansway and Missenden Road, prefabs at Chessmount Rise and, around 1970, Pheasant Rise. Each of those generations has its own window sizes and its own problems, from rotten Victorian sashes to brittle 1980s UPVC.
Heritage, planning and the River Chess
The Chesham Conservation Area covers the historic centre, and Buckinghamshire Council has been reviewing it, with a public consultation. Chesham Bois has its own conservation area. Planning sits with Buckinghamshire Council, so check with them before replacing windows on a listed building or a street-facing elevation inside either boundary.
The River Chess rises in Lowndes Park and runs through the town, and parts of Missenden Road, Red Lion Street and St Mary’s Way lie within its flood zone. If you live there, it is worth mentioning when we survey, particularly for door thresholds. The hills around the town are part of the Chilterns National Landscape, which can matter for extensions.
Hillside streets and access
Chesham sits in a narrow valley, and many of its later estates climb steep slopes on either side. Streets around Pond Park, Chessmount and the roads towards Botley can mean steps up to the front door, tight parking and rear gardens on a different level to the house. None of that stops a job, but it does shape how we plan the day: where the van can stop, how frames are carried in and whether large door panels need extra hands. We note all of it at the survey so the installation day runs without surprises.
Products that suit Chesham homes
- “Met” style and Tudorbethan semis: Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening aluminium casements, or our Cortizo and Alunet windows, keep frames slim on bays and gables. Aluminium windows start from £400.
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Newtown: these often have tight budgets per window. UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system are a sensible choice, with woodgrain finishes available. We do not make timber windows.
- Post-war and 1970s estates: a straight replacement in aluminium or UPVC, often with a new composite front door.
- Garden openings: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds.
- More space: conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns.

Aluminium frames are made in Fifield with lead times from 10 days, and on fitting day our installers travel up from Fifield, fit, seal and tidy away. All our work comes with a 10-year guarantee. Where there are conservation questions, read our planning guide for replacement windows before you commit.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Chesham from Windsor?
Yes. Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, and Chesham is roughly 21 miles away by road, usually about 45 minutes' drive. We do not have a local office, but our surveyors and installers travel up regularly. We group visits sensibly so the journey does not hold up your survey or your installation date.
Can I fit UPVC windows in the Chesham Conservation Area?
It depends on the building and the elevation. The Chesham Conservation Area covers the historic centre and has been under review by Buckinghamshire Council. Check with the council before ordering, especially for listed buildings or front windows. We can supply product details, drawings and sample colours to help with any application.
What windows suit a mock-Tudor Metro-land semi in Chesham?
These houses often have bays and gables with fairly small panes. Slim aluminium casements such as Reynaers SlimLine 68 keep the frames neat and can take glazing bars to echo the original look. UPVC on the Selecta Advance 70 system is a lower-cost alternative. We will show you both at the survey.
My house is near the River Chess. Does that affect new doors?
Parts of Missenden Road, Red Lion Street and St Mary's Way fall within the river's flood zone. New doors do not make a home flood-proof, but we can look at threshold detail, drainage and sealing when we survey. If flood risk is a concern, mention it early so we can plan the door specification around it.
How long does a Chesham installation take?
Most houses take one to three days on site, depending on how many windows and doors are being replaced. Aluminium frames are made in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days after the order is confirmed. We agree the fitting date in advance and our team travels up from Fifield on the day.
