Inspired Glazing offers double glazing in Bromley using aluminium windows and doors fabricated in our own Fifield workshop, near Windsor, plus UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. Bromley is the largest London borough by area and the furthest of our south London patches from base: roughly 40 to 45 miles by road, around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half. We have no Bromley office, so surveys and fitting days are booked in advance and our own team travels across.

A suburban borough with countryside to the south
The north and west of the borough, around Bromley town, Beckenham, Penge, Shortlands and West Wickham, is built-up suburb. South of the line between West Wickham and Pratt’s Bottom it is mostly Metropolitan Green Belt, and a small section of the Kent Downs National Landscape falls inside the borough. Bromley contains more of the North Downs than any other London borough, so a job near Biggin Hill or Downe can feel more like rural Kent than London.
Housing tends to be owner-occupied family homes. Petts Wood is a good example: most of it was built in the late 1920s, led by developer Basil Scruby, who paid for the station. The larger, better-built homes sit east of the railway, with smaller and denser streets to the west.
Planning: conservation areas and special residential character
The London Borough of Bromley is the planning authority, and it says there are 47 conservation areas in the borough, including Bromley Town Centre, Shortlands Village, Chislehurst Road, The Thrifts and The Covert, plus Beckenham and Chislehurst. Petts Wood is an Area of Special Residential Character, and in 2022 the council confirmed an Article 4 direction there removing householder rights for certain roof works. Another direction covers Chislehurst Road conservation area. Rules for windows can still differ between areas and between houses and flats, so check with Bromley Council before ordering, especially in a conservation area. Flats have no householder permitted development rights. Our planning permission guide explains the background.
Matching products to Bromley houses
1920s and 1930s semis and detached houses
Homes in Petts Wood, Orpington, Hayes and West Wickham often have bay windows and leaded or patterned glass. UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a practical choice, with woodgrain finishes if you want a softer look, and a composite front door to finish the porch.
Older houses in Beckenham and Bromley town
Both have conservation areas, and the borough’s period houses deserve frames that do not look heavy. Our aluminium windows, including the slim Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement, plus Cortizo and Alunet ranges, keep sightlines narrow. We do not make timber windows or doors.
Gardens and extensions
Generous plots suit wide openings: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors, conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns. We also fit porches, garage doors, fascias, soffits and guttering.
Planning the journey into Bromley
Because the drive from Fifield is longer here than for most of our London work, we group the work sensibly. The surveyor measures everything on one visit, including garage doors, fascias or a porch if you want them priced at the same time, so you are not waiting for a second appointment. On fitting day the van leaves Fifield fully loaded with frames, glass, trims and sealants. For a whole house we agree the number of days in advance and keep the same installers on the job from start to finish. If you are in the rural south, near Downe or Biggin Hill, tell us about narrow lanes or limited parking when you book, so we can plan the van and delivery.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Petts Wood Article 4 direction affect replacement windows?
Bromley Council confirmed an Article 4 direction for the Petts Wood Area of Special Residential Character in 2022 that removes householder rights for certain roof works. Whether a window change needs consent depends on your property and any other designations, so check with Bromley Council before ordering. We can provide drawings and specifications if an application is needed.
Do you cover Biggin Hill and the villages near Downe?
Yes. We cover the whole borough, including Biggin Hill, Downe and the rural south. Travelling from our Fifield workshop near Windsor can take around an hour and a half, so we book surveys and installation days in advance. A small part of the Kent Downs National Landscape lies in the borough; check planning with Bromley Council.
What windows suit a 1930s semi in Orpington?
Most 1930s semis suit UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system, which handle bay windows well and come in white, colours and woodgrain finishes. If you prefer slimmer frames or dark grey, our aluminium windows start from 400 pounds. A composite front door completes the look. We will advise at the free survey.
