A town that grew along one High Street

Billericay was founded in the 13th century on high ground above Great Burstead, and its long High Street still shows that history. Timber-framed and Georgian frontages run between Sun Corner and the church, Burghstead Lodge among them, and the 1830 former Town Hall stands at 94 High Street. Step away from the centre and the picture changes. The railway arrived in 1889, and the roads around the station, Queens Park and Noak Hill filled through the twentieth century with semis, detached family houses and later estates, many of which are now on their second or third set of windows.

Replacement jobs tend to split along those lines. On a 1930s or post-war semi the usual brief is a whole house of windows plus a new front door. On an older High Street building or a cottage in one of the Bursteads, the first question is whether consent is needed at all.

Conservation areas and who to ask

Basildon Borough Council handles planning for Billericay. Its published conservation areas include Billericay High Street, Great Burstead and Little Burstead, with the Billericay and Great Burstead boundaries amended in 2013. If your home sits inside one of these, or is listed, check with Basildon Borough Council before ordering. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains the general principles, and we will tell you plainly if a product is unlikely to suit.

The government has announced that Essex’s district councils will be replaced by five unitary authorities from April 2028, subject to parliamentary approval, with Basildon joining Thurrock. Until that happens, Basildon Borough Council remains the authority to contact.

Matching products to Billericay houses

We do not make timber windows. If a timber appearance matters, woodgrain UPVC, a heritage colour in aluminium or a composite door are the alternatives, and secondary glazing can help where original windows have to stay.

Villages around Billericay we cover

As well as the town itself, we quote in Great Burstead, Little Burstead, Ramsden Heath, Ramsden Bellhouse, Stock and Noak Hill. Neighbouring pages cover double glazing in Brentwood, Wickford and Basildon.

Surveying and fitting from Fifield

We have no Essex showroom. Our only premises are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, and Billericay is roughly 65 miles away by road, usually around an hour and twenty minutes via the M25 and A127, depending on traffic. Because of that journey, surveys and installation days are planned in advance so the team arrives early and stays until the job is finished.

  1. Send us photos or call for an initial price.
  2. A surveyor visits to measure every opening and talk through styles, colours and glass.
  3. Aluminium frames are fabricated in our Fifield workshop; UPVC and composite products are ordered to your exact sizes.
  4. Our own fitters remove the old frames, install, seal and tidy up.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need permission to replace windows on Billericay High Street?

Possibly. Billericay High Street is a conservation area designated by Basildon Borough Council, and listed buildings need listed building consent for most changes to windows and doors. What applies depends on your property, so check with Basildon Borough Council before ordering. We can supply product details and drawings to support any application you make.

How far do you travel to reach Billericay?

Our workshop and only base is at Fifield near Windsor, roughly 65 miles from Billericay by road, or around an hour and twenty minutes depending on M25 traffic. We plan surveys and fitting days in advance so the journey never cuts an installation short, and our own team carries out both the survey and the fit.

How much do aluminium windows cost for a Billericay semi?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 per window. The total for a house depends on the number and size of openings, opening styles, colour and glass choices. After a free survey you receive a written quote for your home. Our double glazing cost guide explains what moves the price up or down before you book.

Can you match the look of timber windows on an older Billericay house?

We do not make timber windows. Woodgrain-finish UPVC and slim aluminium in heritage colours are the closest alternatives, and composite doors give a timber appearance at the entrance. Where original windows must stay, for example on a listed building, secondary glazing can improve warmth and cut noise without replacing the existing frames.

How long does it take from survey to installation?

Lead times start from 10 days for aluminium windows made in our Fifield workshop. Bifolds, sliding doors, conservatories and larger orders can take longer, and because Billericay is a planned trip from Fifield we agree the fitting date with you once the survey is done and tell you how many days the installation will take.
