Double Glazing in Daventry: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Inspired Glazing installs double glazing in Daventry, from aluminium windows and bifold doors made in our own workshop to UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We have no office in Northamptonshire: everything is made at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 75 miles from Daventry by road and typically around an hour and a half’s drive. Our own team travels from Fifield, and we plan surveys and installations in advance around the journey.

A market town reshaped in the 1960s

Daventry’s housing tells a clear story. In 1961 the town was designated to take overspill population and industry from Birmingham, and Birmingham City Council bought nearly 1,000 acres for the purpose. The population nearly tripled, from under 6,000 in 1961 to over 16,000 by 1981. Southbrook, on the south-eastern slopes of Borough Hill, was the first phase, from 1966, followed by estates including Drayton, Middlemore, Lang Farm, Ashby Fields, Stefen Hill, The Grange and The Headlands. Monksmoor Park is a more recent addition.

The result is a town where a large share of houses are now fifty to sixty years old, many on their second set of double glazing. Those homes are where UPVC or aluminium replacements make the biggest practical difference.

Borough Hill, rising to just under 200 metres on the town’s eastern edge, gives some estates a raised outlook across the countryside. It also carries a long history, from Iron Age hillforts to the BBC transmitter, and is now a country park. Homes looking out over it or over Daventry Country Park, to the north-east of the centre, are often where owners ask us about larger panes or sliding doors that make more of the view, and we measure those openings with particular care.

The old town and planning

Behind the estates is a much older core. High Street, Market Place, New Street and Sheaf Street form a conservation area of mostly seventeenth- to nineteenth-century buildings, anchored by Holy Cross Church, built between 1752 and 1758 and listed Grade I. The Tuesday and Friday market still runs on High Street.

Daventry District Council was abolished in 2021, and planning now sits with West Northamptonshire Council. If your property is listed, inside the town centre conservation area or in one of the many village conservation areas nearby, check with West Northamptonshire Council before changing windows or doors. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so they can need permission and freeholder consent. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows covers the general position.

Which products suit which Daventry homes

Overspill-era houses and later estates

For value and low maintenance, UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a natural fit. If you prefer slimmer frames or a darker colour, our Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows are worth comparing, and a composite front door finishes the job.

Older properties in the centre

Our main aluminium window, the Reynaers SlimLine 68, is an outward-opening casement with narrow sightlines. We do not make timber windows, so for a traditional look we discuss woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium, subject to what the council will accept.

Extensions and garden access

We fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, and build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns.

Daventry villages on our list

From Daventry we also cover Long Buckby, Staverton, Welton, Badby, Braunston and Byfield. Our nearby pages include double glazing in Rugby, Northampton and Banbury.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really cover Daventry from Windsor?

Yes. Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 75 miles from Daventry by road, around an hour and a half's drive. Because of the distance we plan surveys and fitting days in advance and book installations as a block, so our own team arrives early and finishes the work without unnecessary return trips.

My house is on Southbrook. What windows would you suggest?

Southbrook was the first phase of Daventry's expansion, from 1966, so many homes there are on older replacement glazing. UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are good value, and Cortizo or Alunet aluminium windows give slimmer frames. We would look at each opening at the survey and suggest options.

Who do I ask about planning in Daventry?

West Northamptonshire Council, which replaced Daventry District Council in 2021. The historic centre around High Street, Market Place, New Street and Sheaf Street is a conservation area. If your home is there, is listed, or is a flat, check with the council before replacing windows or doors.

How long will I wait for new windows?

After the survey and your sign-off, our aluminium frames are made in Fifield with lead times from 10 days. We then agree an installation date with you. For Daventry we usually book the fitting as one continuous block of days, so larger jobs finish without gaps between visits.

What is the starting price for aluminium windows?

Aluminium windows start from £400. The final figure depends on sizes, opening styles, glass, colour and how many windows you replace at once. We give a written quote after a free survey, and our double glazing cost guide explains in more detail what pushes the price up or down.
