Double Glazing in Harrow: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Inspired Glazing supplies and fits double glazing in Harrow, from Metro-land semis in Rayners Lane to Edwardian houses near Harrow on the Hill. We fabricate aluminium windows and doors in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and also fit UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. Harrow is roughly 22 miles from Fifield by road, usually around 40 to 50 minutes via the M25 and A40, and that is where our surveyors and fitters set out from: we do not have a Harrow office.

Metro-land and the hill

The borough covers three historic towns, Harrow, Pinner and Stanmore, plus western Edgware. It sat at the heart of the area the Metropolitan Railway marketed as Metro-land, and its population rose from about 22,700 in 1901 to nearly 218,000 by 1951. Most homes therefore date from the Edwardian years and the 1920s to 1940s, which is why so many streets are lined with bay-fronted semis and short terraces. Greenhill grew into the modern town centre after Harrow-on-the-Hill station opened in 1880, while the hilltop village itself, with St Mary’s Church and Harrow School, is far older and has more than 80 listed buildings in its ward.

For windows, that history means a lot of original or early replacement frames on interwar houses, plus curved bays and porches that shape how a new window should look.

Harrow’s conservation areas: check before you order

Harrow Council groups its conservation areas by district, and many come with Article 4 directions. The council’s own wording is that an Article 4 direction means you will need planning permission to carry out work in the area.

If your home falls in any of these, check with Harrow Council’s conservation team before you commit. Flats have no householder permitted development rights wherever they are. Read our guide to planning permission for replacement windows for the basics. The council’s conservation team can be contacted at conservation@harrow.gov.uk, and its supplementary planning documents for Harrow on the Hill and for Stanmore and Edgware include an appraisal and management strategy for each area.

Choosing frames for a Harrow home

1920s and 1930s semis

These are the bulk of the borough’s houses. Our UPVC windows and doors, made in the Selecta Advance 70 system, are a straightforward like-for-like replacement, and a composite door suits the original recessed porches. Woodgrain-finish frames are an option if you want a timber look; we do not make timber windows.

Edwardian and older houses

Where slim frames matter, our aluminium windows are the better fit. The Reynaers SlimLine 68 opens outwards like a traditional casement, and we also offer Cortizo and Alunet systems.

Extensions and garden rooms

Rising property prices have brought a steady stream of redevelopment and extension work to Harrow’s Edwardian and interwar houses, and a new rear room is often the moment to rethink the doors to the garden. We fit Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds, and build conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns.

Areas covered

Harrow town centre, Wealdstone, Harrow Weald, Pinner, Hatch End, Rayners Lane, North Harrow, Stanmore, Kenton and Edgware. Nearby we also cover Brent, Hillingdon and Bushey, and you can see all our west London windows and doors work.

How the job works

A surveyor visits from Fifield to measure, discuss styles and show samples. You get a written quote; aluminium windows start from £400, and the cost guide explains the variables. Lead times start from 10 days. Our own fitters install, seal and tidy up, and the work is covered by a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner with Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pinner covered by Article 4 directions?

Some of it. Harrow Council lists 13 conservation areas in Pinner, and five have Article 4 directions: Pinner High Street, East End Farm, West Towers, Pinnerwood Park Estate and Pinner Hill Estate. The council says these mean planning permission is needed for work in the area. Check with Harrow Council before ordering new windows there.

Is my house in Rayners Lane in a conservation area?

It may be. Harrow Council lists Rayners Lane as a conservation area within its Pinner group, although it does not have an Article 4 direction. Not every Rayners Lane street is inside the boundary, so check the council's conservation area map or ask Harrow Council's conservation team before you order new windows.

How long does it take you to get to Harrow?

Harrow is roughly 22 miles from our Fifield workshop by road, usually around 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic on the M25 and A40. We have no local office, so the same Fifield-based team comes out for the survey and returns for the installation.

What is your lead time for aluminium windows?

Lead times start from 10 days once your order and measurements are confirmed. Because we fabricate aluminium frames in our own Fifield workshop, we are not waiting on an outside fabricator. Larger jobs, special colours or doors can take longer, and we give you a realistic date with your quote.

Do you fit bifold doors on Stanmore extensions?

Yes. We fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors, and Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors if you prefer large sliding panels. If your house is in a Stanmore conservation area such as Stanmore Hill or Canons Park Estate, check with Harrow Council before planning the opening.
