Double Glazing in Kettering: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Inspired Glazing offers double glazing in Kettering using aluminium windows and doors made in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, fitted by our own installers. We supply UPVC windows and doors, composite doors and conservatories as well. Kettering is a long way from our base, roughly 85 miles by road and usually around an hour and a half to an hour and three-quarters via the M1 and A14, so we plan every survey and installation in advance around the journey rather than offering same-week visits.

Kettering’s houses, from shoe barons to terraces

Kettering grew in the 19th century on footwear. The factory owners built large houses on the Headlands and Rockingham Road, while workers lived in the terraced streets nearby. Iron added another layer: Cransley Ironworks and Kettering Ironworks both smelted iron from the late 1870s until 1959, fed by ironstone quarries around the town. The footwear trade declined from the 1970s, but its housing still defines much of the town.

Around that core sit later suburbs such as Ise Lodge, and Barton Seagrave, which was absorbed into Kettering’s urban district in 1935 and became a separate parish again in 2002. The town lies west of the River Ise, a tributary of the Nene, and the A14 skirts the west and south of the centre.

Choosing windows and doors

Large Victorian and Edwardian houses on the Headlands. Where a house has bays and tall openings, they suit the slim lines of the Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening aluminium casement. Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows offer other profiles. See aluminium windows and doors.

Workers’ terraces. In a terrace, every millimetre of frame shows, so profile width matters. Aluminium or UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system both work; for a painted-timber look, choose a woodgrain finish, as we do not make timber windows or doors.

Suburban family homes. A composite front door, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors, or a conservatory, orangery or roof lantern for extra living space.

We also fit porches, secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters.

Conservation areas around Kettering

Kettering has two tiers of local government: Kettering Town Council at parish level and North Northamptonshire Council, which handles planning and has its main offices in Corby, keeping the former Kettering Borough Council building on Bowling Green Road as an area office. The council lists a Kettering conservation area, and many in the surrounding district, among them Barton Seagrave, Burton Latimer, Rothwell, Desborough, Geddington, Broughton, Warkton, Weekley, Cranford and Pytchley.

If your house is in one of these, or is listed, check with North Northamptonshire Council before replacing windows or doors, especially at the front. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so flat owners may need planning consent and the freeholder’s agreement. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows covers the basics.

Living near the A14

The A14 runs past the west and south of the town on its way to the M1 and M6. If bedrooms face it, mention this at survey and we will discuss glass options aimed at reducing road noise in those rooms.

Towns and villages we visit

Alongside Kettering itself, including Ise Lodge and Barton Seagrave, we cover Burton Latimer, Rothwell, Desborough, Geddington, Broughton and Warkton. For nearby towns, see double glazing in Corby, Wellingborough and Market Harborough.

How we survey and install from Fifield

Given the distance, we book Kettering visits together and agree dates well in advance. At the survey we measure each opening, check the brickwork and reveals and show you colours, glass and hardware. Your written quote follows, with aluminium windows from £400 each; our double glazing cost guide explains what changes the price. Aluminium frames are fabricated at Fifield with lead times from 10 days, and our own fitters travel up on the agreed date to remove the old frames, install and seal the new ones and take everything away.

Installations carry a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kettering within your area?

Yes, though it is one of our longer journeys. Our only workshop and office are in Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 85 miles from Kettering by road, usually around an hour and a half to an hour and three-quarters. We plan surveys and installations in advance around the journey, and our own surveyor and fitters travel up for each job.

Who do I ask about planning for windows in Kettering?

North Northamptonshire Council handles planning for Kettering. It lists a Kettering conservation area plus others nearby, including Barton Seagrave, Rothwell, Burton Latimer and Geddington. If your home is in one of them, is listed, or is a flat, check with North Northamptonshire Council before ordering, as permitted development rules may not apply.

What suits a large Victorian house on the Headlands?

Where a period house has bays and tall openings, slim aluminium frames such as the Reynaers SlimLine 68 keep the proportions light. Cortizo and Alunet aluminium give other options. We do not make timber windows, so if a timber look matters, consider woodgrain finishes. Check conservation area status with North Northamptonshire Council before ordering.

Can double glazing reduce noise from the A14?

Replacing old, poorly sealed windows with well-fitted modern double glazing generally cuts road noise. The A14 runs past the west and south of Kettering. Tell our surveyor which rooms face the road, and we will recommend glass for those openings rather than applying one specification to the whole house.

How much does it cost to replace windows in Kettering?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 each. The total depends on the number of windows, sizes, opening styles, colours and glass. Because of the journey, we plan the survey visit in advance. You receive a written, itemised quote after a free survey at your home.
