Double Glazing in Westbury: Windows, Doors and Conservatories

Looking for double glazing in Westbury? Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fits them with its own installers, alongside UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We are not based in Wiltshire. Westbury is roughly 80 miles from our workshop by road, usually around an hour and three-quarters, so we book surveys and installation days in advance and plan each visit around the journey.

A cloth town under the White Horse

Westbury sits beneath the north-western edge of Salisbury Plain, with the Westbury White Horse cut into the escarpment about a mile and a half east of the town. From the later 15th century it was a cloth-making centre, and the older streets still show that wealth: All Saints’ Church is Grade I listed, and early 18th-century houses such as Ferndale House and Bank House are Grade II*. The Old Town Hall in the Market Place is built of Bath stone. At Westbury Leigh, the Church of the Holy Saviour was built between 1877 and 1890, and the station north-west of the centre became an important junction where the Reading to Taunton line meets the Wessex Main Line. The largest modern area is Leigh Park, built from the late 1990s.

In practice that means two very different jobs: historic stone and brick houses in and around the centre, where the council’s view matters most, and newer estate homes where replacing windows is usually simpler.

Which windows and doors fit which Westbury home

Older stone and brick houses

Our aluminium windows are led by the Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement with narrow sightlines that keeps glass areas generous in smaller openings. Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows widen the choice of profile and price. We do not make timber windows, so if your house is listed and the council expects like-for-like timber, we will tell you at survey rather than quote for something that will not be approved.

Leigh Park and other estate homes

For newer houses, UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a sensible like-for-like upgrade, and woodgrain foils are available if you want a softer look. A composite front door adds security and a timber-style finish without the painting.

Opening up to the garden

Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors suit wide rear openings, while Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors fold right back for summer. We also build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns, and supply secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters.

Planning in Westbury

Westbury falls under Wiltshire Council, the unitary authority, for planning. Replacing windows in an ordinary house is often permitted development, but listed buildings, homes in a conservation area and flats are different. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so a block may need planning consent and the freeholder’s agreement. With so many listed buildings in the centre, check with Wiltshire Council before you order. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains the usual questions to ask.

Villages we cover from Westbury

We work across the town, including Westbury Leigh, Frogmore, The Ham and Chalford, and in the surrounding villages of Dilton Marsh, Bratton, Edington, Heywood and Chapmanslade. Neighbouring pages cover double glazing in Trowbridge, Warminster and Frome.

How we survey and fit from Fifield

Because of the distance, we group appointments so our surveyor and fitters make the most of each trip west.

  1. Survey. We measure each opening, check the brickwork or stone reveals and talk through colours, glass and hardware at your kitchen table.
  2. Quote. Aluminium windows start from £400 each. The double glazing cost guide explains what moves the price on a whole-house job.
  3. Making. Aluminium frames are fabricated in our Fifield workshop, with lead times from 10 days.
  4. Fitting. Our own team travels down on an agreed date, removes the old frames, installs and seals the new ones and takes the waste away.

All installations come with a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have an office or showroom near Westbury?

No. Our only premises are the workshop and office at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, near Windsor. Westbury is roughly 80 miles away by road, around an hour and three-quarters, so we bring frame samples, colour charts and glass options to your home and plan the survey and installation dates in advance.

Can I fit aluminium windows to a listed house in Westbury?

Possibly, but it needs listed building consent from Wiltshire Council first, and the council may want timber. We do not make timber windows, so if timber is required we will say so honestly. For listed homes where new frames are refused, our secondary glazing can improve warmth and noise without touching the original windows.

How long does it take from survey to installation?

Aluminium windows are made in our Fifield workshop with lead times from 10 days after the order is confirmed. For a town as far away as Westbury, the installation date also depends on fitting the trip into our schedule, so we agree it with you when you order rather than promising a date at survey.

What do new windows cost for a house in Westbury?

Our aluminium windows start from £400 per window. The final figure depends on size, style, glass, colour and how many openings you are replacing, and we confirm it in a written quote after the free survey. Our double glazing cost guide explains the main factors before you book.

Do you install bifold doors in Westbury?

Yes. We fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors, plus Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors if you prefer large sliding panes. At survey we check the opening width, the lintel and how glass will be carried to the back of the house before recommending one or the other.
