Inspired Glazing supplies and fits double glazing in Bedford and Kempston, with aluminium windows and doors made at our own workshop and fitted by our own installers, plus UPVC windows and composite doors. We are honest about where we are: our only premises are in Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 58 miles from Bedford by road and usually around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half’s drive via the M25 and M1. Surveys and installations are therefore planned in advance around the journey.

Bedford’s neighbourhoods and their homes
Bedford is the largest town we cover in Bedfordshire, and its housing changes quickly from one ward to the next. The centre and the Castle area spread east along the River Great Ouse in the nineteenth century, and Harpur, including the Poets area, is largely nineteenth century in character, with Manton Heights added in the 1970s. Kempston and Biddenham form part of the wider built-up area, and wards such as Brickhill, Putnoe, Goldington and Queens Park bring a mix of terraces, semis and later family homes.
South of the town, Wixams is a new town still being built, so we also meet owners of very recent homes who want to upgrade garden doors or entrances.
Conservation areas and Bedford Borough Council
Bedford Borough Council is the unitary authority and handles planning. It lists around 30 conservation areas across the borough, including Bedford itself, Kempston, Biddenham and Elstow, as well as villages such as Stevington, Turvey and Harrold. If your home is in one of these areas or is listed, check with Bedford Borough Council before choosing windows or doors. Our planning permission guide explains the general rules, and flats need freeholder or managing agent consent as well.
Living by the Great Ouse
The river is Bedford’s great asset, but it has flooded before; a marker in St Johns Street records the height of the Great Flood of 1823. If you live in a low-lying riverside street, mention it at the survey. New doors will not make a house flood-proof, but we can consider threshold details and sealing when specifying them.
Flats, rentals and older terraces
Some of the older streets around Bedford’s centre include converted flats and rented homes alongside owner-occupied terraces. Landlords often want a durable, low-maintenance window that tenants find easy to use, while flat owners need to think about lease consent before anything else. Owners of older terraces, on the other hand, are usually trying to keep the character of the front elevation while improving warmth and security. We are happy to quote for a single flat or a whole terrace, and we will tell you plainly which option makes most sense for the property.
What we would recommend
- Victorian terraces and villas: slim aluminium windows, including the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement and Cortizo and Alunet ranges, from £400 per window. We do not make timber windows, so in conservation areas we will be clear about what we can and cannot offer.
- Mid-century and later semis: UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system, with white, coloured and woodgrain options.
- Newer homes in Wixams and Great Denham: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds to open up the garden.
- Front doors: composite doors suit most Bedford homes.
- More space and finishing touches: conservatories and orangeries, porches, roof lanterns, secondary glazing, fascias, soffits and guttering.
How a Bedford project works
We group Bedford surveys on set days so each visit is unhurried. The surveyor measures every opening, checks access and any planning points, and talks through options. You then get a written quote; our double glazing cost guide helps with early budgeting. Aluminium frames are made in Fifield with lead times from 10 days, and installation dates are booked ahead so our own team can make an early start. All work carries our 10-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
Why use a company from Windsor for windows in Bedford?
We make our aluminium windows and doors in our own Fifield workshop and fit them with our own team, so one company is responsible from survey to guarantee. Bedford is roughly 58 miles away by road, so we plan surveys and installations ahead. We do not have a Bedford office, and we will always be clear about that.
Is my Bedford home in a conservation area?
Bedford Borough Council lists around 30 conservation areas, including Bedford, Kempston, Biddenham and Elstow. Boundaries are set by the council, so check with Bedford Borough Council for your address before ordering. Listed buildings generally need consent for window changes. We can provide drawings and specifications to support an application.
Can I replace windows in a Bedford flat?
Usually, but flats do not have householder permitted development rights, so planning rules can differ from houses. You will also normally need consent from the freeholder or managing agent under your lease. Check both before ordering. We can supply product details and drawings to help you get the approvals you need.
What does double glazing cost in Bedford?
Our aluminium windows start from £400 each. A whole-house price depends on how many windows and doors you replace, their sizes, opening styles and colours. UPVC on the Selecta Advance 70 system is usually the lower-cost option. We give a written quote after a free survey, and our cost guide explains the main factors.
How long does a Bedford installation take to arrange?
After you confirm your order, aluminium frames are fabricated at Fifield with lead times from around 10 days. Because of the journey, we book Bedford installation days in advance, and most houses are completed in one to three days on site. Your quote sets out expected timings for each product you choose.
