Double glazing in Burgess Hill is something we can help with directly: Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop and fits them with its own team, and also supplies UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 60 miles from Burgess Hill by road, or around an hour and a quarter in normal traffic. Because of that distance, we plan surveys and installations in advance and the team travels from Fifield each time.

Burgess Hill’s housing, decade by decade
Bricks and tiles were made here from the seventeenth century, but Burgess Hill only became a town after the London to Brighton railway opened in 1841 and St John’s Common was enclosed. Victorian brick and tile works spread across the area, and the older streets near the station and the centre still have Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas. The biggest change came after wartime building controls lifted in 1952: the population nearly doubled to about 14,000 between 1951 and 1961, and estates of houses and bungalows kept coming through the following decades, with several hundred more homes in the 1990s. Today the town is growing again, with the new Brookleigh neighbourhood on its northern side.
This is a town where a great many homes are now on their second or even third set of windows. Frames fitted in the 1980s and 1990s are often the ones we replace: hinges have dropped, seals have failed and units have misted.
Which of our products fit which Burgess Hill homes?
For the estates and bungalows that make up much of the town, UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are the sensible value choice, available in white, grey and woodgrain foils. For owners who want something slimmer and more contemporary, or for the Victorian and Edwardian houses nearer the centre, we recommend our aluminium windows, led by the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement and backed up by Cortizo and Alunet ranges.
Bungalows and chalet bungalows often have generous rear gardens, which makes them a good fit for bifold doors (we fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo) or Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors. A worn front door is best replaced with a composite door; we do not make timber doors. If you need more space, we also design and build conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns.
Checking the rules with Mid Sussex
Burgess Hill falls under Mid Sussex District Council for planning. The town has three conservation areas of its own: St John’s, Fairfield, and Silverdale Road / Birchwood Grove Road, largely covering the older Victorian and Edwardian streets. Most replacement windows on ordinary houses are permitted development, but listed buildings, homes in those conservation areas and flats are exceptions; flats have no householder permitted development rights and usually need freeholder consent as well. Hurstpierpoint and Keymer have conservation areas too, and Ditchling lies inside the South Downs National Park, where the South Downs National Park Authority handles planning. If any of that applies to you, check with the right authority first. Our replacement windows planning guide gives the general picture.
Nearby villages on our Burgess Hill visits
We regularly combine Burgess Hill work with visits to Hassocks, Keymer, Hurstpierpoint, Wivelsfield Green, Sayers Common and Ditchling. To the north we cover Haywards Heath, and to the south Brighton and Hove.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth replacing 1990s double glazing in Burgess Hill?
Often, yes. Frames from the 1980s and 1990s commonly suffer from failed seals, misted units and worn hinges, and modern units insulate noticeably better. If the frames themselves are sound, replacing only the glass can sometimes be enough. We will tell you honestly at the free survey whether full replacement is worth it.
Can you fit bifold doors to a bungalow in Burgess Hill?
Yes. Many bungalows have rear walls and gardens that suit bifold or sliding doors. We fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds and Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliders. Widening an opening may need a new lintel and building regulations sign-off, which we discuss at survey before anything is ordered.
Who handles planning for windows in Burgess Hill?
Mid Sussex District Council is the planning authority for Burgess Hill and most of the surrounding villages. Ditchling and other areas inside the South Downs National Park are handled by the South Downs National Park Authority. Check with the relevant authority if your home is listed, in a conservation area or is a flat.
How much do new windows cost in Burgess Hill?
Our aluminium windows start from £400 each, and UPVC is usually less. The final price depends on the number and size of windows, glass type, colour and any doors included. We give a written quote after a free survey, so you know exactly what is included before you decide.
How do you manage the distance from Fifield to Burgess Hill?
The drive is roughly 60 miles, around an hour and a quarter. We plan surveys on days we are already in Mid Sussex, make the frames in our own workshop, and schedule installation over consecutive days so our team can finish the job without repeated trips. You deal with the same company throughout.
