Inspired Glazing provides double glazing in Nuneaton, covering aluminium windows and doors from our own workshop, UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. We are a Berkshire firm based at Fifield, near Windsor, so we will not pretend to be local: Nuneaton is roughly 100 miles from us by road, usually around an hour and three-quarters to two hours. We plan each survey and installation in advance around that drive, and our own fitters do the work.

How Nuneaton’s housing grew
Nuneaton’s older trades shaped where people lived. Silk ribbon weaving began as a cottage industry in the mid-17th century, with weavers working in top-shops, and in 1851 almost half the town’s workforce was in the ribbon trade. Coal, recorded here since 1338, grew enormously with the canals and railways, and brick and tile making expanded from the 1880s.
The 20th century reshaped the town. A 1947 masterplan by Frederick Gibberd guided the rebuilding of the bomb-damaged centre through the 1960s. Around 2,500 council houses went up in the 1950s, the biggest scheme at Camp Hill, where 1,400 homes were finished by 1956. Since then, most growth has been private estates at Weddington, St Nicolas Park, Whitestone and Stockingford.
The town’s best-known daughter is George Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans in 1819 on the Arbury Estate just outside Nuneaton. Her family home, Griff House, is now a hotel and restaurant on the A444, the dual carriageway that forms part of the ring road; homes beside it or the A5 may benefit from acoustic glass.
That history gives a survey here three quite different starting points: 1950s council-built houses, later private estate homes, and older buildings near the centre that need more care.
The council, conservation areas and 2028
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is the planning authority. The Nuneaton Town Centre conservation area, designated in 1980, covers about 24 hectares and includes the Grade I Church of St Nicolas, with an appraisal and management plan adopted in 2022. The smaller Abbey conservation area surrounds St Mary’s Church and its ruined walls. If you live in either, or in a listed building, check with the borough council before replacing windows.
Flats need particular care, because they have no householder permitted development rights; new windows usually need planning permission and the freeholder’s consent. Our planning guide for replacement windows covers the essentials. Looking ahead, the government has confirmed a new North Warwickshire Council for the Nuneaton and Bedworth, North Warwickshire and Rugby areas, expected from 1 April 2028.
Our range, matched to Nuneaton homes
For Camp Hill and other post-war streets, UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a dependable replacement for older double glazing.
For Weddington, St Nicolas Park and Whitestone, or anywhere you want a more contemporary look, our aluminium windows give slimmer frames and more colour choice: the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement, plus Cortizo and Alunet. Pair them with Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors.
For the front of the house, a composite door with a timber-look finish. Timber windows and doors are not something we make.
For more space, conservatories, orangeries, porches and roof lanterns, as well as secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters.
Neighbourhoods we serve

Frequently asked questions
Can you replace old double glazing on a Camp Hill house?
Yes. If your 1950s house has older double glazing that is draughty, misted or hard to open, we can replace it. We usually suggest UPVC in the Selecta Advance 70 system for a like-for-like upgrade, or aluminium for slimmer frames. We measure every opening at the free survey and quote in writing.
Do I need permission for new windows near St Nicolas Church?
Homes in the Nuneaton Town Centre or Abbey conservation areas, listed buildings and all flats may need consent before windows are changed. Ordinary houses elsewhere can often use permitted development. Check with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for your address before you place an order.
How far do your fitters travel to Nuneaton?
We are based at Coningsby Farm, Fifield, near Windsor, with no other office or showroom. Nuneaton is roughly 100 miles away by road, usually around an hour and three-quarters to two hours. We plan surveys and installations in advance so the journey is built into the schedule.
Which doors suit a rear extension in Weddington or St Nicolas Park?
For a wide opening, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors give large glass panels with slim frames. If you want the whole opening to fold back, Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors are our options. We can match the colour to new aluminium windows fitted at the same time.
Who will handle planning in Nuneaton after 2028?
The government has confirmed that a new North Warwickshire Council will cover the Nuneaton and Bedworth, North Warwickshire and Rugby areas, expected from 1 April 2028. Until then, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council deals with planning, conservation area and listed building questions.
