We work from Fifield, near Windsor, and have no West Midlands branch. Old core, green edges
Solihull is older than its shopping centres suggest. The High Street and The Square still follow a planned medieval layout of the late 12th century, and timber-framed survivals include the Grade II* Manor House at 126 High Street and The George Hotel. Eighteenth-century town houses line the north side of Warwick Road, while Hillfield Hall, built in 1576, is still lived in. Until the early 1960s, Victorian terraces linked the High Street with Warwick Road, before Mell Square replaced them. Heritage here is taken seriously: when Monkspath Hall of 1775 was illegally demolished, a court required it to be rebuilt as it had been, and Olton keeps Hobs Moat, a scheduled 12th-century castle site.
Much of the borough’s housing came later, as land was released for new homes and districts such as Shirley, Olton, Monkspath and Hillfield filled out. Around three quarters of the borough is Green Belt, including the Meriden Gap, which is why villages like Hampton-in-Arden and Berkswell keep a rural feel. That countryside is also where the borough’s HS2 interchange station is planned, linked to the Sprint bus network and a West Midlands Metro extension. To the north, Birmingham Airport sits at Elmdon; if you live near the flight path, ask us about glass specified to reduce noise.
Conservation areas and Solihull Council
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is a unitary authority and handles all planning. It has twenty conservation areas, among them Solihull town centre, Olton, Knowle, Station Approach Dorridge, Ashleigh Road, Granville Road, Warwick Road, Malvern Hall and Brueton Avenue, Hampton-in-Arden and Berkswell.
The council’s 2023 appraisal for the Solihull conservation area lists non-traditional materials, including uPVC windows, as a negative issue, and records the loss of historic windows as a concern. At the time of that plan no Article 4 direction was in force, but it listed one as a possible future measure. In short, if your home is in a conservation area or is listed, check with Solihull Council before changing street-facing windows. Flats, wherever they are, have no householder permitted development rights. Our planning permission guide for replacement windows has more detail.
Solihull homes and the products that suit them
Period and individual houses
For older homes in Knowle, Dorridge, Olton or near the town centre, our aluminium windows offer slim, strong frames: the Reynaers SlimLine 68 outward-opening casement, plus the Cortizo and Alunet ranges. We do not make timber windows. Where a heritage setting calls for timber we will say so, and secondary glazing may help instead.
Family homes across Shirley, Olton and Monkspath
UPVC windows and doors in Selecta Advance 70 are a good-value whole-house option, with woodgrain foils if you want a softer look. A composite door adds security at the front.
Extensions and garden rooms
Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors, and conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns. Our team can also replace garage doors, fascias, soffits and guttering, add a porch, or fit blinds and shutters.
Places we cover

Our survey and installation
A surveyor visits on a pre-booked day with samples and colour charts, measures every opening and discusses glass and hardware. Your written quote follows, with aluminium windows from £400; the double glazing cost guide explains typical price factors. Aluminium frames are made at Fifield with lead times from 10 days, and our own installers drive up on the agreed date to fit, seal and clear away. Every installation is covered by a 10-year guarantee. You can find us on Reynaers’ Reynaers at Home installer list, and we are Constructionline Silver accredited.

Frequently asked questions
Does Solihull Council allow uPVC windows in conservation areas?
The council's 2023 appraisal for the Solihull conservation area lists uPVC windows among the negative issues affecting its character. That does not decide every case, but it shows the council's view. If you live in one of the borough's twenty conservation areas or a listed building, check with Solihull Council before replacing windows.
Can you help reduce aircraft noise near Birmingham Airport?
Birmingham Airport sits at Elmdon, and homes near the flight path can benefit from glazing specified for sound. At the survey we can discuss glass options for new windows, or secondary glazing if you want to keep your existing frames. We will explain the choices plainly rather than promise a fixed reduction.
Do you cover Knowle and Dorridge?
Yes. We work across Solihull town, Shirley, Olton, Knowle, Dorridge, Monkspath, Hillfield and Elmdon, as well as Hampton-in-Arden and Berkswell. Knowle and Station Approach in Dorridge are conservation areas, so for homes there we suggest checking with Solihull Council early in the process.
How far is your workshop from Solihull?
Our only base is our workshop and office at Coningsby Farm, Fifield, near Windsor. Solihull is roughly 90 to 95 miles away by road, usually around an hour and three-quarters on the M40 and M42. We bring samples to you and agree survey and installation dates well ahead.
What does double glazing cost in Solihull?
Our aluminium windows start from £400 each, with the final price depending on size, opening type, glass, colour and quantity. UPVC and composite doors are priced at survey. You receive an itemised written quote after the free visit, and our double glazing cost guide explains the main price factors.
