Inspired Glazing installs double glazing in Redbridge, covering Ilford, Wanstead, Woodford and the streets in between. We make aluminium windows and doors in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, fit them with our own installers, and also supply UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. Redbridge is one of the furthest London boroughs from us: roughly 45 miles by road via the M25, usually around an hour and a quarter each way. We have no east London office, so we plan each survey and installation in advance around that drive.

Ilford’s growth and Woodford’s green edges
The borough was created in 1965 from the municipal boroughs of Ilford and of Wanstead and Woodford, with smaller pieces of Dagenham and Chigwell. Ilford was a compact village until the railway arrived in 1839; its population went from 3,742 in 1841 to more than 41,000 by 1901 as brickworks, coal yards and new streets spread out from the Broadway. The Central line extension after the Second World War opened up the area further, and taller blocks such as Raphael House and Lynton House were completed in 1969. Today some Ilford wards are mostly terraces and flats; Valentines has the highest share of flats.
The north and west feel quite different. Wanstead keeps a Georgian terrace on its high street and is bordered by Wanstead Park and Wanstead Flats, both part of Epping Forest. Woodford, South Woodford and Woodford Bridge sit close to the forest edge, and Hainault Forest Country Park, with around 300 acres of countryside, and Claybury Woods, itself a conservation area with ancient oak and hornbeam woodland, give the north-east its open land. Chadwell Heath, on the eastern edge, still has its Art Deco Embassy Cinema of 1934. The River Roding runs through the middle and gives the borough its name, after the old red-brick bridge over it. Wanstead also has the A12, built through the town after the M11 link road protests of 1993 to 1995, so traffic noise is worth raising at your survey if you live close to it.
Checking the rules with Redbridge Council
Redbridge Council has 16 conservation areas, including Wanstead Village, Wanstead Park, Wanstead Grove, Snaresbrook, South Woodford, George Lane, Woodford Broadway, Woodford Green and Woodford Wells, Woodford Bridge, Aldersbrook and Lake House Estate, Little Heath, Claybury, Valentines Mansion and Barnardo’s Village Homes, plus the Bungalow Estate. The council has Article 4 directions on the Bungalow Estate and on Aldersbrook and Lake House Estate, and explains that such directions can remove rights over works like replacement windows and doors and new porches.
If your home is in one of these areas, or is listed, check with Redbridge Council before ordering. Flats, common in Ilford, have no householder permitted development rights, and the freeholder usually has to agree. Our planning permission guide has the general picture.
Good matches for Redbridge homes
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Ilford, Seven Kings and Goodmayes: UPVC windows and doors in Selecta Advance 70 are a cost-effective replacement; slim aluminium windows, such as the outward-opening Reynaers SlimLine 68, or Cortizo and Alunet frames suit owners wanting narrower sightlines.
- Aldersbrook, Wanstead and Woodford houses: check the conservation area position first, then compare aluminium and woodgrain options. We do not make timber windows or doors.
- Front doors everywhere: a composite door gives a timber look with low upkeep, and we can add a porch.
- Garden openings: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors, Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds, conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns.

Survey to installation
We book a survey date well ahead, and the surveyor brings colour and hardware samples from Fifield. You get a written quote; aluminium windows start from £400, and the double glazing cost guide explains what changes the total. Aluminium frames are made in our own workshop with lead times from 10 days. We then schedule the fitting days, and our own installers fit, seal and clear up. Every installation carries a 10-year guarantee. We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and Constructionline Silver.

Frequently asked questions
Is Aldersbrook covered by an Article 4 direction?
Yes. Redbridge Council lists a 2020 Article 4 direction for the Aldersbrook and Lake House Estate conservation area. The council explains that Article 4 directions can remove permitted development rights over works such as replacement windows and doors. Check with Redbridge Council before ordering new frames for a house there.
Do you really cover Redbridge from Windsor?
Yes. Our workshop and only premises are at Fifield, near Windsor. Redbridge is roughly 45 miles away by road, usually around an hour and a quarter. Because of the distance, we plan surveys and installation days in advance, and the same team carries out the work.
What windows suit an Edwardian terrace in Ilford?
Outside conservation areas, our UPVC windows in the Selecta Advance 70 system are a cost-effective like-for-like choice. If you want slimmer frames, our aluminium windows, including the outward-opening Reynaers SlimLine 68, are the alternative. We bring samples to your survey so you can compare.
Can I replace the windows in my Ilford flat?
Yes, with the right approvals. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so you may need planning permission from Redbridge Council, and leaseholders normally need the freeholder's consent. Once you have them, we survey, make and fit the windows in the same way as for a house.
How soon can my windows be fitted?
Lead times start from 10 days once your order is confirmed, as we fabricate aluminium frames in our own Fifield workshop. For Redbridge we then book fitting days around the journey, so allow a little planning time. Larger orders and special colours can take longer.
