We install double glazing in Wellingborough with our own team, using aluminium windows and doors fabricated at our workshop in Fifield, near Windsor, alongside UPVC windows, composite doors and conservatories. Inspired Glazing has no base in Northamptonshire. How Wellingborough was built

The old market town sits on hills above the flood plain of the River Nene, which forms its southern edge, with the River Ise to the east. Its oldest landmarks include the Grade I listed steeple of All Hallows church, and the Golden Hind Hotel building and the railway station are Grade II listed.

From the 1960s and 1970s Wellingborough grew fast under agreements with the London County Council and later the Greater London Council to rehouse Londoners. Hemmingwell and much of Queensway were built for that overspill population, and Kingsway is the third of the town’s large public housing estates; Spring Gardens and Knights Court are smaller ones. Much of the town centre was redeveloped in the same period, including the Swansgate centre. Growth continues today at Glenvale Park, Waendle View and Stanton Cross, a major extension east of the station planned for 3,200 homes.

Products for each part of town

Older streets around the centre. Our Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium casement opens outwards and keeps frames slim, so period openings do not lose glass. Cortizo and Alunet aluminium windows are alternatives. More on our aluminium windows and doors page.

Hemmingwell, Queensway and Kingsway. UPVC windows and doors in the Selecta Advance 70 system, plus a composite front door, give a full refresh at sensible cost.

Newer homes at Glenvale Park or Stanton Cross. Here the work is often at the back of the house, where the builder’s standard patio door can give way to Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifold doors, or where a conservatory, orangery or roof lantern adds space. Check any estate covenants first.

We also supply porches, secondary glazing, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering, blinds and shutters. We do not make timber windows or doors; woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium, or composite doors, are the timber-look options.

Planning with North Northamptonshire Council

In April 2021 the Borough of Wellingborough was replaced by the North Northamptonshire unitary authority, which also covers Corby, Kettering and East Northamptonshire, and the town gained its own Town Council at parish level. North Northamptonshire Council lists a Wellingborough Town Centre conservation area, and nearby conservation areas at Finedon, Earls Barton, Great Doddington, Isham, Ecton, Mears Ashby, Orlingbury, Hardwick and Easton Maudit.

If you live in one of these, or in a listed building, check with North Northamptonshire Council before ordering. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so a flat may need planning consent and freeholder agreement. Our planning permission guide covers the general points.

Near the Nene and the Ise

With the Nene along the south of the town and Swanspool Brook running through it, some lower streets are close to water. If your house has had damp or flood problems, tell us at survey so we can think about door thresholds and sill detailing; for flood-risk guidance, speak to the Environment Agency.

Surrounding villages

From Wellingborough we cover Finedon across the Ise, Irchester across the Nene, Earls Barton, Wollaston, Great Doddington and Wilby, as well as Redhill Grange. See also double glazing in Kettering, Rushden and Northampton.

Frequently asked questions

How do you manage jobs in Wellingborough from Windsor?

Our workshop is at Fifield, near Windsor, roughly 78 miles from Wellingborough by road, typically around an hour and a half. We plan surveys and installations in advance around the journey, grouping appointments in the area. There is no local office or showroom, so our surveyor brings samples to your home and our own fitters travel up for the installation.

Is Wellingborough town centre a conservation area?

Yes. North Northamptonshire Council lists a Wellingborough Town Centre conservation area, and there are others nearby at Finedon, Earls Barton and Great Doddington. If your property is in one of these, or is listed, check with North Northamptonshire Council before changing windows or doors, particularly on elevations facing the street.

I've bought an ex-council house in Queensway. What should I replace first?

Our surveyor will look at the condition of every window and door and give you a clear, itemised quote, so you can decide whether to do the whole house at once or in stages. Selecta Advance 70 UPVC windows and a composite front door are a cost-conscious combination, while aluminium windows start from £400 each.

Can I have bifold doors on a new home at Stanton Cross?

Usually, yes. We fit Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds and Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors. On a newer property, check your purchase documents for estate covenants or developer restrictions on external changes, and if the home is leasehold, get the freeholder's consent. We measure the opening and check the structure above it at survey.

Do you fit timber windows in Wellingborough?

No. We do not make timber windows or doors. If you want a timber look, we offer woodgrain-finish UPVC and aluminium, and composite doors with timber-effect skins. If a listed building or conservation area requirement means timber is expected, check with North Northamptonshire Council and we will tell you honestly at survey whether our products are suitable.
