If you are looking for double glazing in Cheshunt, Inspired Glazing makes aluminium windows and doors in its own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fits them with its own installation team. We also supply UPVC windows and doors, composite front doors, bifolds, sliding patio doors and conservatories, so one survey can cover a whole house rather than a single opening.

A town built on glass
Cheshunt has an unusual connection with glazing. From 1806 the area grew into a centre of commercial glasshouses, and by 1967 it held around a quarter of the country’s glasshouses, growing tomatoes, cucumbers and roses for London. When that industry declined in the 1970s, many of the old nursery sites became housing estates, which is one reason the town has so many homes from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s sitting alongside older streets.
The older core is around St Mary’s Church and along the High Street and Turners Hill. Rail links pushed commuter housing outwards from the 1930s, so you will find interwar semis and bungalows across much of the town, while post-war council estates were built partly to rehouse Londoners. More recently, the former Tesco headquarters site is being redeveloped as Cheshunt Lakeside with around 1,700 new homes.
Matching products to Cheshunt houses
- 1930s semis and bungalows: many still have tired first-generation UPVC. Our UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system are a sensible like-for-like upgrade, and a composite front door suits the deep porches common on these houses.
- Former nursery-site estates from the 1970s to 1990s: these often have wide rear openings onto gardens. Replacing an old patio door with a Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 slider or a Smart Visofold bifold door makes the most of the space.
- Homes with a view over the Lee Valley: slim aluminium windows such as Reynaers SlimLine 68, an outward-opening casement, let in more light than chunky frames.
- Extending rather than moving: a conservatory, orangery or roof lantern can add living space on the larger plots towards Goffs Oak.
Planning checks with Broxbourne Borough Council
Cheshunt sits within the Borough of Broxbourne, which handles planning. The council lists six conservation areas, and two of them are directly relevant here: Churchgate, around the old church core, and the New River conservation area, which follows the historic water channel through the borough. If your house is in one of these, or is listed, check with Broxbourne Borough Council before changing the style or material of your windows. Most houses outside these areas can have like-for-like replacements under permitted development, but flats do not have householder permitted development rights and may also need freeholder consent. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains the general rules.
Large parts of the town lie close to the River Lea and the Lee Navigation. If you are planning a ground-floor extension or conservatory near the valley floor, it is worth checking the Environment Agency flood map as part of your planning.
Areas we cover around Cheshunt

How a Cheshunt job works from Fifield
We do not have a showroom in Hertfordshire. Our only premises are at Coningsby Farm in Fifield, and Cheshunt is roughly 45 miles away by road, usually around an hour each way using the M25. Because of that, we book surveys in sensible slots and group the installation days together so the team is not travelling more than it needs to.
- Survey: a surveyor visits, measures every opening, talks through styles and colours, and checks for anything that affects the job, such as a conservation area or a flat lease.
- Quote: you receive a written quote. Aluminium windows start from £400, and our double glazing cost guide explains what moves the price.
- Manufacture: aluminium frames are made to measure in our Fifield workshop, with lead times from 10 days.
- Fitting: our own team installs, makes good and clears away. Everything comes with a 10-year guarantee.
We are a listed Reynaers at Home installer partner and hold Constructionline Silver. We do not make timber windows; if you like the look of wood, woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium, or a composite door, gives a similar effect with less upkeep.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a showroom near Cheshunt?
No. Our only premises are our workshop and office at Coningsby Farm, Fifield, near Windsor, which is roughly 45 miles from Cheshunt by road. Instead of a showroom visit, our surveyor brings samples to your home and explains the options there, so you can judge colours and finishes against your own brickwork.
Is my Cheshunt house in a conservation area?
Broxbourne Borough Council has six conservation areas, including Churchgate and the New River area, which pass through Cheshunt. The council's planning pages and map will confirm whether your address is inside one. If it is, ask the council before changing window materials or styles, and tell our surveyor so we can plan around it.
Can you replace the patio door on a 1980s Cheshunt estate house?
Yes. Many homes built on former nursery land have a standard sliding patio door at the back. We can swap it for a Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 aluminium sliding door, a Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold, or a UPVC door, depending on the opening width, your budget and how you use the garden.
How long does it take to get new windows in Cheshunt?
After the survey and your go-ahead, aluminium windows have a lead time from 10 days because we make them in our own workshop. Installation for a typical house usually takes one to a few days. As we travel from Fifield, we confirm fitting dates in advance and keep them grouped together.
Do you fit windows in flats in Cheshunt and Waltham Cross?
We do, but flats do not have householder permitted development rights, so replacement windows may need planning permission, and most leases require the freeholder's consent. Check your lease and with Broxbourne Borough Council first. Our surveyor can provide drawings and product details to support any application.
