Inspired Glazing offers double glazing in Newham for terraced houses in East Ham and Manor Park, the Woodgrange Estate in Forest Gate and newer homes around Stratford and the Royal Docks. We supply and fit aluminium windows and doors, UPVC windows, composite doors, secondary glazing and garden rooms. Aluminium frames are built in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and fitted by our own installers. We do not have an east London office: Newham is roughly 38 miles from Fifield by road, usually an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half, so we fix survey and fitting dates in advance and travel out from Fifield.

Two old county boroughs, one housing story
Newham was created in 1965 from the county boroughs of East Ham and West Ham, and their late-Victorian growth still defines most streets. East Ham was a scattered village in the 1860s; urbanisation took off after 1890 and electric District Railway trains arrived in 1908, leaving it with Victorian and Edwardian terraced town houses, often on tree-lined avenues. In Forest Gate, blocks of council flats replaced houses damaged in the Second World War, and since the 2012 Olympics the redevelopment of the Olympic Park and Docklands has brought new homes to Stratford and the riverside.
That gives three very different kinds of enquiry. Terraced houses often need a full set of windows and a new front door. Post-war flats raise lease and consent questions. Owners of newer flats are more often after a replacement door or sealed unit.
The Woodgrange Estate, Forest Gate
The borough’s best-known period housing is the Woodgrange Estate, built between 1877 and 1892 by Thomas Corbett and then his son Cameron: 1,160 mostly two-storey houses along Hampton, Osborne, Claremont and Windsor Roads. Newham’s appraisal describes yellow London stock brick, Welsh slate roofs and distinctive glazed verandah canopies with railway-style valances. The earliest houses have plate-glass horned sash windows; from the 1880s, paired windows, arched heads and canted bays appeared.
Woodgrange has been under a comprehensive Article 4 direction since May 1977, bringing alterations to the houses, porches, hardstandings, boundaries and exterior painting under planning control. If you live on the estate, check with Newham Council before changing windows, doors or the verandah. North of the railway, Forest Gate’s “village” terraces lead up to Wanstead Flats, outside the estate itself.
Newham’s nine conservation areas
Besides Woodgrange, Newham has conservation areas at Durham Road in Manor Park, East Ham, Forest Gate Town Centre, Romford Road, Stratford St John’s, Sugar House Lane, Three Mills and University in Stratford. The council notes that in a conservation area you may need planning permission to change windows or doors even where it would not normally be required. Ask Newham Council before ordering if your home is in one of them.
Noise near the airport and main roads
London City Airport sits within the borough, and homes close to the Royal Docks, the A13 and the main rail lines all have reason to think about acoustic performance. Double glazing with a well-sealed installation helps; where original sashes need to be kept, our secondary glazing adds a second pane inside the frame.
Products matched to Newham homes
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces in East Ham, Manor Park, Plaistow and Upton Park: UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system, or slimmer aluminium windows from Reynaers SlimLine 68, Cortizo or Alunet, with a composite front door.
- Rear extensions: Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors or Smart Visofold and Cortizo bifolds, plus roof lanterns for deep kitchen-diners.
- Garden space: conservatories, orangeries and porches where planning allows.
We do not make timber windows. Woodgrain-finish UPVC or aluminium, or a composite door, gives a timber look; on controlled frontages such as Woodgrange, check what the council will accept first.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need permission to replace windows on the Woodgrange Estate?
Very likely. The Woodgrange Estate has been covered by a comprehensive Article 4 direction since 1977, which brings alterations to houses, porches and exterior painting under planning control. The council's appraisal describes its sash windows, bays and verandahs in detail. Check with Newham Council before you plan new windows or doors, and we can supply details for an application.
What windows suit a Victorian terrace in East Ham?
Outside a conservation area, UPVC windows on the Selecta Advance 70 system are a practical, low-maintenance choice for East Ham's Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Aluminium windows from £400 each give slimmer frames. Note that East Ham town centre has its own conservation area, so check with Newham Council if you are inside it.
Can double glazing help with noise near London City Airport?
It can reduce noise indoors. The airport is within Newham, and homes near it, the A13 or railway lines can benefit from good glazing fitted with well-sealed frames. Glass choice matters too. Where original windows have to stay, secondary glazing adds a second barrier. Our surveyor can talk you through options at a free visit.
I own a flat in Stratford. Can you replace my windows?
We can, once the right consents are in place. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so planning permission may be needed, and leaseholders usually need written consent from the freeholder or managing agent. In a newer building, a replacement sealed unit or door may be all that is needed, so book a survey first.
Where are you based, and how long does it take to reach Newham?
Our workshop and team are in Fifield, near Windsor. Newham is roughly 38 miles away by road, usually an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half depending on traffic. We have no local office, so we agree survey and installation dates with you in advance and travel out from Fifield.
