Aluminium Windows in Leatherhead

Inspired Glazing makes and fits aluminium windows for homes in Leatherhead, fabricating every frame in our own Fifield workshop near Windsor and installing it with our own fitters rather than subcontractors. Leatherhead is roughly 20 miles from us in a straight line, which usually means a drive of 45 minutes to an hour along the M4 and M25, depending on how busy the motorway is that morning.

Grey aluminium casement windows with slim frames for homes in Leatherhead

Matching the frame to the Leatherhead house

The town grew up beside an old ford on the River Mole, and its streets show several distinct building periods. The railway reached Leatherhead in 1859, and Victorian and Edwardian villas followed close to the centre. Givons Grove added larger late-1920s and early-1930s houses, while the roads north of the centre carry the plainer brick homes built after the Second World War. Each of these suits a slightly different window.

If you are still weighing materials, our guide to uPVC or aluminium casement windows sets out the differences in sightlines, stiffness and lifespan.

What the SlimLine 68 actually offers

SL68 is our main aluminium window system. Reynaers publishes a minimum outward-opening frame width of 38 mm, accepts glass units from 26 mm to 43 mm thick, and quotes a Uw of 1.1 W/mยฒK when triple glazed. The system is tested for burglar resistance to PAS 24. Reynaers points out that results vary with size, hardware and infill, so we confirm the figures for your own openings at survey. Alongside it we fabricate Cortizo and Alunet windows, plus Crittall-style steel-look aluminium windows and screens for owners who like a gridded industrial look.

Planning checks with Mole Valley

Mole Valley District Council handles planning for the town. Leatherhead has a conservation area, and the council has an Article 4 direction covering parts of it, which can bring front-facing window changes under planning control. If your home sits in or close to the historic centre, check with Mole Valley District Council before you order. Flats have no householder permitted development rights, so a block in Leatherhead will need its own consent route and usually the freeholder’s agreement too. From 1 April 2027 Surrey’s district councils are due to be replaced, with Mole Valley joining the new East Surrey Council, so planning correspondence will change name. The general rules are set out on our page about planning permission for replacement windows.

Cutting motorway and rail noise

The M25 opened past Leatherhead in 1985 and its hum carries a long way on still evenings, while trains to Victoria, Waterloo, Horsham and Guildford run through the station west of the centre. For bedrooms that face either, we can specify laminated acoustic glass with panes of different thicknesses, which breaks up road and rail frequencies far better than a standard sealed unit. Read more about sound-reducing windows, and ask whether triple glazing makes sense for the rooms you have in mind.

Doors that open onto the garden

Once the windows are done, many Leatherhead owners turn to the back of the house and a wider opening onto the garden. For big glass panels we fit the Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding door; you can see local options on our aluminium sliding doors Leatherhead page. Where a fully folding opening suits the room better, we install Smart Visofold and Cortizo aluminium bifold doors, covered in detail on our aluminium bifold doors Leatherhead page. Inside the house, Crittall-style internal doors can divide a kitchen from a living space without losing light.

Colour and glazing choices

Every frame is powder coated to a RAL colour of your choosing. Anthracite grey and black remain the most requested, and dual colour lets you keep white inside while the outside matches your front door; our grey and black windows page shows how they look. We offer double or triple glazing depending on the room and the frame size. If you also want uPVC in part of the house, our double glazing Leatherhead page explains the Selecta Advance 70 range.

Villages around Leatherhead we cover

Our fitters regularly travel to Ashtead, Fetcham, Bookham, Effingham and Mickleham, which share the same spring-line setting along the old Guildford to Epsom road. Further along the same routes we also work in Esher, Cobham and Banstead. For everything else we offer across the county, see our windows and doors in Surrey hub.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission for aluminium windows in Leatherhead?

Usually not for a house outside the conservation area, as like-for-like replacements are often permitted development. Parts of the Leatherhead conservation area are covered by an Article 4 direction, which can bring front windows under control, and flats have no householder permitted development at all. Check with Mole Valley District Council before ordering if you are unsure.

How far is your workshop from Leatherhead?

Our Fifield workshop is about 20 miles from Leatherhead in a straight line. By road it is normally a 45 minute to one hour drive using the M4 and M25. Our own team carries out the survey and fitting, so the person measuring your openings works for the same company that installs them.

Will slim aluminium frames suit a Victorian villa near the town centre?

Yes. The Reynaers SlimLine 68 has narrow sightlines and a heritage profile option that respects the original proportions of a period opening. We can also add glazing bars to echo the pattern of older windows. If the house is in the conservation area, check with the council before choosing a design.

Can new windows reduce M25 noise in Leatherhead?

Yes, often noticeably. Acoustic laminated glass with panes of different thicknesses disrupts the low rumble of motorway traffic better than standard double glazing. Good seals and accurate fitting matter just as much, which is why we survey every opening ourselves before we build the frames in Fifield.

Is aluminium better than uPVC for a post-war Leatherhead semi?

Both work well. Aluminium gives slimmer frames, more glass and a long life with powder-coated colour, while uPVC from our Selecta Advance 70 range suits owners focused on a simple white finish. We can show samples of each at your free survey so you can compare them side by side.
