Inspired Glazing makes and installs aluminium bifold doors for houses on the Moor Park estate, using the Smart Systems Visofold 1000 and the Cortizo bifold system. Every door is fabricated in our own workshop at Fifield, near Windsor, and our own installers survey and fit it. The estate is roughly 15 miles from us in a straight line, usually around 40 minutes by road via the M25, depending on traffic.

Bifolds for a Moor Park garden elevation
Moor Park homes sit on generous plots with deep rear gardens, and many keep the 1930s character the estate is known for. A rear extension or garden room here is often wide, and the owner wants the whole back wall to open in summer. That is where a bifold earns its place: the panels fold and stack to one or both sides, leaving almost the full width clear.
Bifolds also cope well with openings that are not a simple straight run. Where an older house has been extended in stages, or the plan steps around a terrace, a folding door can turn a corner or fit between existing returns more easily than one large sliding pane.
The two bifold systems we fabricate
Smart Visofold 1000
Smart Systems publishes a maximum sash size of 1,200 mm wide by 2,500 mm high for Visofold 1000, with a typical sightline of 122 mm and frame depths from 70 to 82 mm. It takes glass units from 24 to 38 mm thick and quotes a U-value of 1.4 W/mยฒK. The standard roller is PAS 24 approved, and there is a low threshold option as well as an integrated cill. It can be made dual colour, so the inside face can differ from the outside.
Cortizo bifold system
Cortizo lists sashes up to 1,200 mm wide and 3,000 mm high, each weighing up to 120 kg, in sets of 1 to 14 sashes with up to seven folding to each side. Glazing runs from 25 to 45 mm, Uw is quoted from 1.1 W/mยฒK, and the system holds a PAS 24:2012 certificate. It can also form a 90-degree open corner with no post, which suits a corner of a garden room facing two lawns.
For a side-by-side look at both, read our Visofold versus Cortizo comparison, or see our general guide to aluminium bifold doors. There is more on the manufacturer behind Visofold on our Smart Systems page, and on the Spanish range on our Cortizo page.
Estate consent and the conservation area
Moor Park became a conservation area in May 1995, and Three Rivers District Council handles planning there. Because of that designation, some works that would be permitted development elsewhere may need council approval. Check with Three Rivers District Council before you commit to a design.
There is a second layer. Moor Park (1958) Ltd, which manages the private roads and verges, benefits from restrictive covenants on the freehold homes. Its approval is needed for any change to the outside of a house, alongside the council’s. The company asks owners to send plans and a viewing fee at the same time as the planning application, and a building levy is paid once permission is granted to protect the roads and verges during the work. We plan our deliveries and van parking around those conditions. For the national picture, see our explainer on planning permission for windows and doors.
Bifold or slider for your opening?
If you mostly look at the garden through closed glass, a sliding door gives bigger panes and fewer frames. If you want the room to open fully onto a terrace for entertaining, bifolds usually win. We set out the trade-offs in bifold versus sliding doors, and our page on sliding doors in Moor Park covers the Reynaers option for the estate.
How a project runs
- Survey: we travel from Fifield to measure the opening and check the structure, the floor levels and the drainage at the threshold.
- Specification: we agree the system, sash count, opening direction, glass and colour, and confirm limits for your sizes.
- Fabrication: the doors are cut, assembled and glazed in our Fifield workshop. Lead times start from 10 days.
- Installation: our own team fits the frame, hangs the sashes and sets the threshold, then takes you through use and care.
Each installation carries our 10-year guarantee. We are a Constructionline Silver accredited contractor, which architects and main contractors often ask about when appointing a glazing specialist.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need Moor Park (1958) Ltd approval for new bifold doors?
The company says its approval is needed for any work that alters the outside of a house, in addition to any council permission. Replacing rear doors with a new bifold, or adding an extension with one, normally falls within that. Send your plans and the viewing fee to the company when you apply to Three Rivers, and keep the consent letter for future buyers.
Is planning permission needed for bifolds in the Moor Park conservation area?
It depends on the work. The conservation area means some changes that are permitted development elsewhere may need approval from Three Rivers District Council. A like-for-like door replacement differs from a new opening or extension. Check with Three Rivers District Council, which offers pre-application advice, before fixing the design and ordering.
How tall can a bifold door be for a Moor Park extension?
Smart Systems publishes a maximum Visofold 1000 sash height of 2,500 mm. Cortizo lists sashes up to 3,000 mm high and 120 kg, so it is usually our choice for tall openings or vaulted garden rooms. Real limits depend on width, glass and layout, so we confirm the figures for your opening at survey.
Can a bifold open the corner of a garden room?
Yes, with the right system. Cortizo states its bifold can form a 90-degree open corner with no post, so two sides of a room fold back and leave the corner fully clear. We look at the structure above the corner during the survey, because the load the post would have carried needs supporting another way.
How far do you travel to reach Moor Park?
Moor Park is about 15 miles from our Fifield workshop in a straight line, typically around 40 minutes by road depending on M25 traffic. Our own team travels out to survey and to install, and we time deliveries around the estate's road and verge conditions set out in the Moor Park (1958) Ltd consent letter.
