Agate grey flush uPVC windows โ€“ Chalfont St Peter

Metroland houses with real character

Chalfont St Peter began as a small village with a market charter and changed dramatically once the railway reached neighbouring Gerrards Cross, bringing waves of suburban building in the early twentieth century. The result is a parish full of Arts and Crafts detached and semi-detached houses, red brick, render and pebbledash, alongside 1930s semis, post-war estates and newer infill. Many of those older homes have leaded lights, small-paned casements and deep bays, details worth keeping when the windows are replaced.

The frame we use

Our windows are fabricated from Selecta Advance 70, a five-chamber uPVC profile that is 70mm deep. Trade press figures suggest a double glazed window around 1.1 to 1.2 W/mยฒK, with triple glazing doing better, but please ask us to confirm the U-value, energy rating and PAS 24 status for your specification before you order.

Styles to suit Arts and Crafts and inter-war homes

Keeping heat in and road noise out

Larger detached houses lose a lot of heat through tired single or early double glazing. Modern units with low-emissivity coatings and warm-edge spacers make a real difference; our energy-rated windows guide explains window energy ratings and triple glazing. The M25 and M40 pass close to the parish, and the A413 carries steady traffic, so homes beside the main roads may benefit from sound-reducing windows with laminated acoustic glass.

Colours and glass

White remains a safe choice, while woodgrain foils give a warmer appearance on brick and render. Grey and black frames suit modernised homes. We do not make timber windows, so foiled uPVC is our route to a wood-look finish. See our window colours and ask us to confirm which shades are available. Glass options range from clear and obscure patterns to toughened safety glass and decorative leaded designs.

Doors for front, back and garden

A new entrance door changes the face of a house. We fit uPVC doors and composite doors with multi-point locks, anti-snap cylinders and optional smart locks for door security. Browse our front doors and the solid-core composite door collection. At the rear, stable doors suit country kitchens, sliding patio doors open onto a terrace, and French doors make a classic link to the garden. Back doors receive the same locking standard as the front.

Repair or replace?

Blown sealed units, dropped sashes and worn handles can often be fixed with window repair, which suits frames that are otherwise in good order. If the frames are distorted or draughty, replacement brings better insulation and security. In a listed house or a protected elevation where the original windows must stay, secondary glazing fitted inside is a discreet alternative.

Conservation areas and the countryside

Chalfont St Peter has three conservation areas: North Park and Kingsway, the Firs Estate near Austenwood Common, and Gold Hill East. If your home is in one of them, or is listed, check with Buckinghamshire Council before replacing windows, including whether an Article 4 direction removes permitted development rights. The parish sits outside the Chilterns National Landscape, though the parish council has sought inclusion, and much of the surrounding land is Green Belt. Our replacement window planning permission page explains the general position.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace windows in the Firs Estate or North Park conservation areas?

Possibly, but check first. Both are conservation areas, and conservation areas can carry Article 4 directions that remove the right to change windows without permission. Listed buildings always need consent. Contact Buckinghamshire Council with your address before ordering, and we can supply drawings and samples to support any application.

Can uPVC windows copy the small panes of an Arts and Crafts house?

Yes, to a good degree. Cottage-style frames with bonded or through-glass bars, flush sashes and woodgrain foils can echo early twentieth-century joinery. Decorative leaded glass can also be added. We photograph your existing windows at survey so the new design keeps the proportions and pane pattern as close as possible.

Is Chalfont St Peter in the Chilterns National Landscape?

No. The parish is currently outside the Chilterns National Landscape, and its parish council applied to be included when Natural England looked at redrawing the boundary, a project it later stopped. Much of the surrounding countryside is Green Belt, which mainly affects extensions rather than replacement windows. Conservation areas are the bigger consideration for window changes.

Do you fit composite doors in Chalfont St Peter?

Yes, we fit composite doors as well as uPVC doors, with multi-point locks, anti-snap cylinders and the option of a smart lock. Colours, glazing and furniture can be chosen to suit period or modern homes. We measure carefully, because older houses in the parish often have non-standard openings.

How long does it take to get new windows?

Our lead time is from 10 days after the survey and order. Woodgrain, coloured and shaped frames can take longer. Most family houses are fitted in one to two days, and we keep the property secure and watertight at the end of each day. You get a clear timetable before anything is ordered.
