Agate grey flush uPVC windows โ€“ Chertsey

An old abbey town on the Thames

Chertsey grew around an abbey founded in 666, and its centre still has many listed 16th and 17th century buildings, along with Georgian houses and the stone Chertsey Bridge of 1783 to 1785. Around the core are Victorian and Edwardian streets, twentieth-century semis and newer riverside schemes such as Bridge Wharf. Neighbourhoods like Eastworth, Hardwick and the slopes of St Ann’s Hill each have a different mix, and Lyne sits out towards Ottershaw.

The town lies on a floodplain terrace between the Thames to the north and the River Bourne to the south, with a naturally high water table. That is worth keeping in mind for low-level doors and thresholds, which we discuss at survey.

Choosing the right window style

Cottage designs with glazing bars and shaped heads may be possible in the same system; ask us to confirm for your windows.

About the Selecta Advance 70

The Advance 70 profile is 70mm deep with five chambers, and Selecta also offers an 80mm traditional outer frame with eight chambers for heritage-style homes. With a 28mm double glazed unit, Selecta quotes a U-value of 1.1 W/mยฒK, and with a 40mm triple unit it quotes 0.8 W/mยฒK. Casement windows are tested to PAS 24 and Secured by Design, giving solid window security. Energy ratings depend on the configuration, so ask us to confirm yours, and read our page on energy-efficient windows for more.

Noise from the M25 and M3

Junction 11 of the M25 sits right next to the town, and the M3 meets the M25 close by, so traffic noise is a real issue for some streets. The A320 also runs through Chertsey. Triple glazing improves acoustic performance compared with standard double units, and laminated glass can help further. Our page on sound-reducing windows covers the options, and secondary glazing suits listed buildings where the original frames must stay.

Finishes for Chertsey homes

Selecta’s 18 Colourfoil finishes can be applied inside, outside or both. Anthracite Grey, Agate Grey and Ulti-Matt Black are popular for newer riverside homes, while Irish Oak and Golden Oak give a woodgrain look for anyone who likes the appearance of timber, which we do not supply. White and Cream suit traditional brick terraces. See every option on our window colours page.

Doors front and back

Our uPVC doors use the Advance 70 door system, rated to PAS 24:2016, with multi-point locks set in full-depth Eurogrooves. For a heavier slab, choose composite doors. Browse front doors with full glass, half glass and panel designs, plus side screens and top lights. At the back, French doors and back doors link the kitchen to the garden, and stable doors are an option worth asking about. Wider openings can take aluminium sliding patio doors, and we can advise on smart lock upgrades.

Repair or replace?

Blown units, sagging sashes and broken handles are common in older double glazing. During the survey we check each window and recommend replacement only where it is the better option. The factors that shape a quotation are explained in our guide to double glazing costs.

Planning and the Chertsey Conservation Area

Runnymede Borough Council designated the Chertsey Conservation Area in 1969, extended it in 1987 and updated its appraisal most recently in 2019 to 2020. If your property is inside it, or listed, check with Runnymede Borough Council before changing windows. From 1 April 2027, Runnymede will become part of the new West Surrey Council, so the planning authority’s name will change. Our guide to replacement windows and planning rules covers the general position.

Surrounding areas

We also fit in Addlestone, Weybridge and Virginia Water. For aluminium alternatives, see our page on double glazing in Chertsey. Browse the full uPVC range, or read about uPVC conservatories in Chertsey.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need consent for new windows in the Chertsey Conservation Area?

It depends on the property. Listed buildings always need consent for changes, and conservation area homes may face extra controls, including any Article 4 direction. Ask Runnymede Borough Council for guidance before any order is placed. From 1 April 2027 that role passes to the new West Surrey Council, so check which authority applies at the time.

Will triple glazing reduce M25 noise in Chertsey?

It usually helps. A 40mm triple glazed unit improves sound reduction compared with standard double glazing, and laminated glass can improve it further. Careful fitting and well-sealed frames are just as important. For listed buildings where frames cannot change, secondary glazing fitted inside is often the most effective solution.

Can you replace windows in a flat by the river?

Yes, subject to the freeholder or management company agreeing. Tilt and turn windows are a popular choice for riverside flats, since they open inward for easy cleaning on upper floors. Some blocks specify colours or styles, so bring any lease or building rules to the survey and we will work within them.

How long will my Chertsey installation take?

Manufacturing lead times begin at around 10 days after the survey is confirmed. Fitting a typical house usually takes a day or two, depending on the number of windows and doors. We give you a clear date once your order is placed, and our team clears away old frames when finished.

Which front doors are most secure?

Both our uPVC and composite doors use multi-point locking. The Advance 70 uPVC door system is rated to PAS 24:2016, a recognised security standard for door assemblies. Composite doors add a solid core. We can also discuss upgraded cylinders and smart locks if you want keyless entry for your Chertsey home.
