Aluminium and uPVC windows fitted in Hertfordshire

A Berkshire workshop serving Hertfordshire

We would rather be upfront: we are not a Hertfordshire company. Our fitters set off from Fifield, and the M25 is the road that links us to the county. The Watford, Bushey and Rickmansworth side is usually reachable in something like three quarters of an hour outside rush hour, St Albans and Hatfield take a little longer, and the north and east of the county, around Stevenage, Hertford, Royston and Bishop’s Stortford, can be an hour and a half or more. Because the same team that measures your openings also builds and installs the frames, nothing is passed to a subcontractor along the way. Lead times are from 10 days, and every installation carries our 10-year guarantee.

If a first visit feels like a long way for someone to come, begin with a free video-call quote. You walk us round the rooms on your phone, we talk through options and sizes, and a full survey follows once you are happy to go ahead.

Hertfordshire homes and what suits them

Hertfordshire has an unusually mixed housing story, and that shapes which products make sense in each place.

Historic market towns

Towns such as St Albans, Hertford, Hitchin, Ware and Berkhamsted have Georgian and Victorian streets, timber-framed survivors and plenty of period terraces. Here the usual brief is to keep the look of the original while improving warmth and security. Our uPVC sash windows from the Selecta Advance 70 range, with woodgrain foils and flush casement options, are a popular route where the council allows uPVC. Where it does not, we can advise early so you do not waste time on the wrong product.

Garden cities and new towns

Letchworth was the world’s first garden city, Welwyn Garden City followed, and Stevenage was the first new town designated after the 1946 New Towns Act, with Hemel Hempstead and Hatfield among the post-war new towns too. These places are full of 1920s cottage-style houses, post-war terraces and later estates. Most owners want lower draughts, better locks and easy upkeep, which is exactly what our uPVC windows and doors are designed for, often paired with a composite front door.

Metro-land and the commuter belt

West Hertfordshire, including Rickmansworth and Chorleywood, grew alongside the Metropolitan Railway in the interwar years, and Watford, Bushey, Harpenden and Potters Bar have large numbers of 1930s semis and detached family houses. These are the homes where rear extensions and kitchen-diner projects are most common. Slim Reynaers SlimLine 68 aluminium windows, Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 sliding doors and Smart Visofold or Cortizo bifold doors open up the garden side of the house, while a roof lantern brings daylight into the middle of a deep extension.

Chilterns villages and the Green Belt

The western edge of the county, around Berkhamsted and Tring, sits within the Chilterns National Landscape, and much of the countryside between the towns is Green Belt. Older cottages and barn-style properties here often suit Crittall-style steel-look aluminium windows, conservatories or orangeries, and secondary glazing where the original frames need to stay.

Conservation areas, listed buildings and the councils

Hertfordshire County Council sits above ten district and borough councils: Broxbourne, Dacorum, East Herts, Hertsmere, North Hertfordshire, St Albans City and District, Stevenage, Three Rivers, Watford and Welwyn Hatfield. Planning decisions about windows are made at district level. East Herts alone has dozens of conservation areas, including Hertford, Ware and Bishop’s Stortford, and St Albans City and District has 19, with Article 4 directions in parts of them. Letchworth also has large conservation areas.

If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with your district council before ordering anything. Our guide to planning permission for replacement windows explains when consent tends to be needed, and we can supply drawings and product details to help with an application.

Living near busy roads

The M1, M25, A1(M) and M11 all run through or along the county. If your house backs onto one of these routes, ask us about acoustic glass options when we quote. A well-sealed aluminium or uPVC frame with the right glass build-up can make bedrooms and home offices noticeably quieter.

Frequently asked questions

Do you install windows and doors in Hertfordshire?

Yes. We fit aluminium and uPVC windows, sliding and bifold doors, composite doors, roof lanterns and secondary glazing across Hertfordshire, from Watford and St Albans to Stevenage, Hertford and Bishop's Stortford. Our own fitting team travels from our workshop in Fifield, near Windsor, so the people who survey your home are the same people who install it.

How long does it take you to get to Hertfordshire from Fifield?

It depends on where you live and the traffic. The south-west of the county, around Watford, Bushey and Rickmansworth, is usually around three quarters of an hour away via the M25. St Albans and Hatfield take a bit longer, and Royston or Bishop's Stortford can be an hour and a half or more. We plan visits to avoid peak traffic where we can.

My house is in a Hertfordshire conservation area. Can I still replace my windows?

Often yes, but the rules vary by district. Councils such as East Herts and St Albans City and District have many conservation areas, and some streets have Article 4 directions that remove permitted development rights. Check with your district council first. We can provide product details and drawings to support any application, and suggest designs that respect the original look.

Can I get a quote without a home visit first?

Yes. Our free video-call quote lets you show us your windows and doors on your phone. We talk through styles, glass and colours, then give you guide options. If you decide to go ahead, we book a full measured survey at your home before anything is made in our workshop, so the final sizes are exact.

Which products suit Hertfordshire homes best?

It depends on the house. Period homes in towns like Hitchin or Hertford often suit uPVC sash or flush casement windows, or secondary glazing if consent is tight. Interwar and modern family homes in Watford or Harpenden often suit Reynaers SlimLine 68 windows, sliding or bifold doors and a roof lantern on the extension.
